EDIT: I have hundreds at home, these are just a few of the ones I've actually shared. But IIRC, I have several that I've even names "angry Cullen". So let me know if you still need something I can send it along later tonight.

Thanks. One would have thought they would just call it that. I know I've never heard of it. Is it popular slang with today's youth?

 

I've never heard any of the kids I work with say it, but I use it and my co-workers have never seemed to have an issue understanding what I meant, so I would guess it's more popularly used by people currently in their late 20's or their 30's?

 

To give an example of use in a sentence, "What's the scuttlebutt?" or (one I actually used yesterday) "I was like Nancy Drew. I found all the scuttlebutt!"

So... ultimately, how would Cullen deal with a blood mage PC, and how would he ultimately adapt to it?

 

I guess personally, I can't see Cullen ever being truly okay with blood magic. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean he would be unable to work with a blood mage - if there was already a rapport established before he found out and there were no other concerning issues, I could see him refraining from immediate smiting and deciding to keep a watchful eye on the person instead.

 

I just can't ever see him putting trust in a blood mage (or abomination) after what he's seen in Kirkwall and especially what happened in Ferelden.

 

A mage in general, sure. I would think Cullen would be very wary at first but over time would come to admire an honorable mage and gain trust in him/her through adventuring together and seeing what the mage was really like when he/she was tested by difficult circumstances and prevailed.

 

The way I see Cullen, though, blood magic and deals with demons would be beyond his moral event horizon and the best you could hope for would be a cautious alliance rather than true friendship or trust.

 

It's partly because of the religious teachings he's absorbed all his life, but more because of his torture in Ferelden. Being tortured by strangers would be bad enough, but being turned on and hurt by people you see every day, people you care about, people you've taken responsibility for, people you maybe thought had some level of regard for you too... it takes things to a different level emotionally.

 

Cullen wasn't just tortured; he was betrayed. And I think that will follow him all of his life. 

 

I can definitely see Cullen becoming able to compartmentalize that not all mages would do that to him. (Although as of DA2 I think he still has a long way to go on that.) I just can't see him becoming so numbed to what happened to him that he'd completely stop thinking that what happened once could happen again. And as I see it, blood magic/demons would be that dividing line between what he could probably come to terms with and what he would never be entirely able to.

 

Of course, that's just from an in-character standpoint; game mechanics might make it a non-issue.
