Iron Bull piggyback ride. Problem solved. Then my Inquisitor doesn't have to walk.

While I'm pro-neutral walks, I have to admit, I'll be disappointed if Vivienne doesn't strut just a little bit.

I feel like I'm a bit of both. I mean, I'm clearly not lady-like in the traditional sense, and I swear like a trooper and I'm pretty tomboyish, however I'm also quite feminine at the same time.

I think that's just what women are like these days... we are what we are, lol.

I'm the same. Work in construction, gaming geek AND a total jock. Always had more male friends than female. Yet I love to dress up, go dancing with the girls. Never wear pants (ever). And I walk like lady Hawke. Seriously, when I go running, I have to mind my hips because if they go into full swing I risk falling over...

Total freak. :P

Idk to me is not that big of a deal I mean, as I said in that forum I think ppl use the term sexualization wayy too loosely now a days, there is nothing wrong with being feminine I mean.
IRL  i have a pretty manly walk but I would like to have  sort of a feminine walk as well (specially when Im on heels)  also it doesn't mean that if females are portrayed in a way in videos games/movies or whatever doesn't mean that men expects for every female to be that way Im sure that most ppl ARE aware that  not every female is perfect and has no flaws and its a freaking super model. Also to be fair  a lot of the times males are portrayed the same way  but ppl dont even stop to realize that because they are too busy to say that " oh they make every woman look like a  h oo ker " there are some women who are comfortable  with their femininity and sexuality, and some that are not.
But I dont think its fair to say that whatever commercial companies  put out there  that involves a female,  should be judged on EVERY WOMAN OUT THERE  because its not its just what some ppl think witch is not true.

I'm putting out a disclaimer that I'm being friendly and not arguing or attacking because it may sound like it and that's not at all my intent :). Also I wrote this on my iPad so it may be a little jumbled lol! I may not have understood exactly what you meant so if some of my points seem off I apologize AND also it's long! Sorry!

Yes the unrealistic portrayal of masculinity/femininity works against both genders but there are so many more ways to tell a women she isn't good enough simply because of the way our culture is set up. (This may be more specific to America then European countries, I'm not sure)
Something important to consider as well is that even though some people do look at very sexualized characters and have the capacity to think "it's just a video game he's/ she's not real and regular people aren't like this" that doesn't mean it isn't damaging to women- especially young women and in a way how they portray women is damaging men (again young men more) as well because the things that they experience alter their perception of what is and is not acceptable when looking for a partner or evaluating themselves. Something a lot of people don't realize is it works against people on a subconscious level as well. You made a good point because that's not saying culture doesn't do that to guys too- like how Edward Cullen is just oh so perfect and gorgeous and rich... or how female protagonists in YA books usually have multiple men fighting over them-that's just silly.

Back more to the original point, I think that if a woman doesn't like the way Hawke walks or doesn't like it when characters have double D breasts and a flat stomach with tiny hips - it doesn't mean she isn't comfortable with her sexuality... I think it just means she has a practical sense of "Well that's Cr@p!" And understands how unrealistic and silly that is Lol!

Also! Companies SHOULD absolutely be judged on what they put out there! Now for the most part I'm not complaining about Bioware -they do a pretty good job, especially compared to other companies and of course they do it too but a lot less. However, if you are releasing images of completely artificial photoshopped women that a real person has absolutely no chance of achieving -yeah people should call you out on it. The game Witcher, where you go around and everyone girl wants to automatically sleep with your male character-yeah not ok. People think these things don't effect everyday lives but they do. Many young guys end up thinking sex should be easy and women should be gorgeous and give them what they want, so some girls go and get plastic surgery or feel awful about how they look and hate themselves. I've had so many therapy sessions with girls who loathe everything about themselves because the just aren't "enough". They don't look right, they don't act right, they don't WALK right! It's unfair to blame these girls and say "Your just not comfortable with your sexuality" because in a world where they are beaten over the head with images of models, video game characters, comic book/anime heroines and celebrities how could they be? So they start altering how they act and walk and behave in general and when that isn't enough they go get plastic surgery! Now obviously this isn't how everyone reacts, some are totally fine and aren't bothered by the images and some people are furious at the injustice of it all! (Er...me lol!) or like a lot of my clients they feel less then.

The Hawke walking thing isn't a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but if people don't complain it's only a downward spiral I tells ya. Maybe it's not as prevalent in your country but in American culture looking sexy is one if the biggest ways people judge one another and themselves. So it's important that we try and not encourage the stereotype of what society thinks a women SHOULD be and embrace instead how awesome she is the way she is! So if a woman does walk that way in real life good for her but to walk like that in a full suit of armor seems very impractical. :D

A part of me liked FemHawk's walk. It seemed powerful to me - but it was also a little too exagerated. FemShep's walk in ME3 didn't bug me because, hey, she just got off the freakin' slab! She's no doubt hurting, and a bit stiff.

As for me, I'm pretty tom-boyish too. I swear like a sailor, I sit in unladylike positions, and I stomp and clench my fists when I walk. But when I run I apparently swish so much it makes my aunt laugh. When I'm in heels, however, I strut like nobody's business. XD I like dressing up now and then, and I love makeup.

I think it's new too. Maybe they're expecting an influx of companion threads in the near future for some reason......

You know I haven't ever worn heels so I can't say from personal experience :D but I have observed women seem to walk differently in them. Is it because of the way they are elevated or is it more how you feel in them?

Or maybe they'll announce a series of companions/characters with an update to the site....but I guess I shouldn't be too hopeful.

They do force you to walk differently. You're walking on your toes and are forced to take smaller steps. It's the equivalent of tight corsets or platform shoes that were used to make women take smaller steps so that they appeared more feminine and delicate.

EDIT: (That said, heels were not always a female-only thing, of course.)

Of course today the heel (especially the pump) is often associated with female power (the female CEO in her power suit, for example). But it is definitely distinctly feminine. (Here feminine is not necessarily associated with weakness, docility, etc. but with female-ness.) There is the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" campaign which raises awareness about domestic violence (presumably only against women...), where men take to the streets wearing "women's shoes." Most if not all are in heels; I've yet to see man during one of these demonstrations wearing his wife's TOMS or something...

I have to hem any non-skinny or non-capri work pants I buy because they are designed for heels. And heels are too feminine for me; I'm uncomfortable with associating myself with overt femininity (you could call me agender or gender fluid, idk). Women (or female persons if you prefer) have a hard time of it lately; some of them struggle to find a balance between feminine and masculine; others cling to their femininity and feel/fear it's under attack; and still others reject ideas of gender altogether!

EDIT: I'm so sorry; this sounds like a lecture. I'm really sorry; I guess I fall into that mode of writing sometimes.

A bit of both. I'm pretty short, so the extra few inches just makes me happy I can reach stuff I can't normally. XD Also if the heels are really cute or pretty, I fell good about myself. The elevation tests my balance - I have to find my center of gravity when I walk in them.

I agree and disagree. Everything you said in your post is all good and true (some days I'm so sick of it I just want to throw up), but I feel that context is everything. Now, NORMALLY, the heroine (if there even was one) would run like that and be a sexy fantasy girl out killing stuff with her sexy fantasy girlfriends. This is bad, no question, and also the norm.

However, Bioware games aren't like that at all. Your Hawke can be any type of woman you desire. Your girlfriends are hard hitting bamfs or sexy pirates. I don't mind that run or Isabella forgetting her pants everyday, but that's because I get options. Women with variety (and not just "sexy sl*t*" or "sweet and innocent"). There are women in bioware games that are there to be desired, but there are also women there who aren't and they are treated equally (in game, not marketing).

That is perfect to me.

I didn't mind FemHawke's walk so much as her toe twiddling while standing idle. Drove me mad.

I like to wear heels - I'm short and they make my legs look longer. Can't right now though - in marathon training and have to be careful of my feet. :(

Character threads? Hooray! Hope there's some news - anything! - soon. Always soon.

Did I miss anything? :P

man this thread has the most insane level of topic fluctuation I have ever witnessed!
