I made the mistake of wandering into the main forum to see what people are saying about Bald Elf Guy. What a bummer. I'm very disappointed in all the complaining about his appearance, especially in regards to possible LI status, when so many people on the forums would be "up in arms" over the same treatment of a female character. I find the immediate contrast between Bald Elf Guy and Vivienne to be very interesting. They are obviously polar opposites when it comes to fashion...

Honestly, I can't wait to gobble up any bit of info the devs release on any of our new companions. It's a shame that so many seem to have already written this poor guy off.

So much this! 

 

I find him interesting looking, though I would like a closer look at his face model and the like. You can tell so much from a characters eyes and just how they look around the face-- just look at those lovely concepts of Cassandra! So yes, I would like to see him a bit more close up and in better focus to take a better look at his features. 

 

I mean, there are those concept pieces with him in it, and judging from those he seems like he'd be pretty relaxed/hard to rile just judging by his face shape and how he's drawn. He doesn't look harsh, but maybe a little world weary. 

 

Saying that, I, personally, don't find him aesthetically attractive, but that can easily change if I fall for his personality. I start to find anyone physically attractive if I love their personality. Just from a design perspective I like my boys with stronger jawlines.

My not-really-worry-but-will-make-me-pout issue right now is that Vivienne is off the LI table. I love me some sassy strong deva women that don't take no crap from no one and can burn you hard with witisms. I am completely okay with friendshippin' the hell out of her, though! I have a feeling she and my planned male human rogue will get along like a house on fire.

...And looking at this again, suddenly he reminds me of an elven Anakin Skywalker with a shaved head. Um... that would make him less relaxed.

lol...personally I get more of a "monk" vibe from him.

 

I hate to make real predictions about anything in DA:I because I don't want to feel like a complete moron when I'm proven wrong. (Like when I was totally convinced that Varric and Cassandra weren't going to be companions because Varric had already had his turn and Cassandra was too experienced/powerful. Then two days later they were both Revealed. *facepalm*)

People seem to forget the first concept art of Fenris. I remember thinking he didn't look very attractive at all.

This was never shown, but I get the feeling this stage of early concept is what we could see of new elf dude.

This is what they went with... A bit better.


We shall see how the elf will turn out. From what I can see in the images he looks more soft than his concept art.

I do understand that it might be bad complaining about someone's shaggability, attractiveness etc and we would be annoyed if it was a female char. But! There is a difference. Saying that someone who is bald or have a manly chin is dead ugly (implying all people IRL are worthless based on the modern beauty norm), is rude and degrading. Stating that those are features one personally don't feel attracted towards is better. Some people like chest hair, some like a vaxed body...

I love talking about my interests. I get angry when people try to shut me down because they don't share the same interest. Just avoid those threads then and stop putting people down because you find their interests beneath you.

My personal interests are love, sex and relationships. I love talking about it, speculating, discussing with others. I don't like fashion, sports, cooking, so I don't bother much about that. I would never whine about people discussing those things.

So yeah. A new char pops up. Ofc one of the first things I would do is talk about the possibility of who he is and I would do that mostly from the perspective that suits my interest. Sex. Love. Relationship.
As MMG said. So sue me!

I find bald elf guy to look somewhat similar to Fenris' redesign Matt Rhodes put up recently.

I have nothing against people having things they don't personally find attractive! And like I said, I don't personally find the elf aesthetically pleasing because his facial features seem a bit soft for my preferences (from what I can see, anyway). It's the "this and this is fugly as hell and no one would want to romance that" attitude that personally irks me. 'Cause, you know, there's people out there who would find that attractive and making their preferences sound less than yours is kind of not cool. Same with downing appearances in that kind of way, in general? There's ways and ways to say things, I guess. *shrug*

I'm in agreement with you. IF it's gonna feel rushed/thin then there's no point in having so many.

I have to admit I'm in the 'less is more' camp too, but, at the same time, nine companions is only two more than what we've had so far? So maybe it's not too much more? I am in the minority that hope the romance options are kept to a smallish number, though. That way they can be more developed.
