DAI has been in development for over four years now actually I think.

I know development started before DA2 was released. Unless I'm misremembering?

I remember them saying something about already working on "the next thing" before/near DA2 came out. Lola might be right though about them using the bulk of it in Frostbite, altering it to be used for a third person RPG game vs the first person shooter it's been used for.

I'm so happy about what they've shown us so far, they've REALLY been hard at work and it shows. That forest scene still makes my eyes pop out of my head.

I'm putting together the last few bits of that Cullen FAQ and I just wanted to verify with other people and not just project my own feelings onto it... It's not really a stretch to suggest Cullen respects Hawke regardless of what side of the mage/templar debate they are on?

I am on the "Why did he let me go, I sided with mages" bit.

I know that we don't really know what was going through his head at the time (about 10 different things probably) but I'd imagine his respect for Hawke may have been a deciding factor in why he backed off.

I don't think "afraid to die" is exactly a valid reason to put either, since he wasn't sitting in the corner sucking his thumb during the Meredith fight. I know a lot of people suggest that being a reason, but eh.

In regards to Cullen backing off, I've always wondered if this was supposed to be a parallel to the situation that occurred years previous between Malcolm Hawke and his Templar friend (doubly so if your Hawke is a mage or Bethany is still alive).

Guys, who's writing Baldy?

If I remember right, Mr. Weekes once tweeted that he was writing a second character that was an elf? So perhaps he wrote our mysterious elf? That's if that character was a companion, anyway.

Respect or not, it could also be to do with honour. Hawke helped Kirkwall in some form, no matter what side he or she took, so it could be a bit like how the first PotC movie ended, with Norrington letting Sparrow go because he had earned that freedom/head start.

Edit: Aaaand I gotta remember there's no stacked quotes now. orz

How many companions did Gaider wrote?

Cassandra is confirmed. I suppose Cole is one of the as well. Just wonder who the last one is. A male character seems likely.

I think I'd like that. Weekes is good with the funny so hopefully, especially if he's the 'healer', he'll be more of a likeable character than a controversial character.

Some people speculate that he only let them go because he didn't wanna risk getting himself killed fighting them, personally I don't believe that one, considering he still had a decent number of Templars at his command, so he stood a good chance of surviving had he chosen to fight them.

I believe Mr. Gaider confirmed that he wrote two characters-- and had to re-write a third? Possibly? Maybe? I can't quite remember and can't find the quote now -- and that two of them were romances. I'm pretty sure he said he wrote two of the romances. Which is a pretty good indication that Cassandra is an LI, I think.  :wizard:

Not to mention the fact that he's literally invincible.

LMAO, I know, right! I let him take down Meredith and all her crazy moving statues by himself once!

I think the only people that would take that as a valid reason are the ones that dislike Cullen and want to paint him as a coward. >.>

It doesn't seem all that in character for him to let someone go because 'oh no, they can kick my arse', and, game mechanics and 'the player must be able to win' aside, Cullen is a pretty strong guy. People seem to forget he was right beside Hawke kicking Meredith's arse. Ignoring game mechanics and how the player has to win again-- from a story point of view-- it could be argued that Hawke wouldn't have been able to defeat Meredith without Cullen and the rest of the help they received during that last fight.

Tell me about it.

Had one game where Meredith impaled him. He got right back up after that and started slashing away at her.

Second, I am not ashamed to say, romances are a HUGE deal for me in a BW game. Sure the game is so much more. But all that I can get in other games. Romances are fantastic and only BW can provide them brilliantly for me. So, yeah, huge deal!

This is also me. I am one of those that would not-so-secretly LOVE it if Bioware did make things more like a dating sim as they are so often accused of doing. I suspect the people tossing around that label have never actually played one.

I found Dragon Age initially because I was searching for games with romance content and it was one of the few that came up. Turned out I liked the adventuring and killing stuff too, but it was the romance aspect that got me to buy it.

I hate admitting this because of the mockery and derision focused on the romance fans.

wow. that was off topic!

I will take the heat off you by admitting I play otome visual novels when I can get my hands on translated ones. You don't get much more romance than that.  :wizard:

Me too! I actually contemplated learning Japanese so I could play some of the untranslated ones. Oh the humanity!

You might like to know, then, that a translation group is working on an english patch for Tokimeki Memorial's Girl Side 3rd Story for the DS. And there's english patches you can find for the first and second games too, if you didn't already know. >.>

*When I played through Witch Hunt, set three years after Origins, some gossiping mages mentioned he went to Greenfell. How can he be in Kirkwall?

-We realize that the timeline does not make much sense at times between the two games. Suffice it to say, he eventually ended up in Kirkwall at some point after the end of Origins.

I'm still reading through it, but another way to argue this point is the same argument for the epilogue slides. It's rumour and heresy, and if you've ever played Chinese Whispers then you know how quickly that can escalate! Besides, I wouldn't call a couple of gossiping mages a fantastic source of information.

There's a similar deal with Anders being in Kirkwall and the timeframe of Awakening too, but I figured I'd just leave it as "yeah, we know it's confusing and doesn't make sense."

The link to Gaider's retcon statement is below that too.

And balls, I realized I completely forgot the quest with Grace, Thrask, and Alain. Only thing I can think of adding from that is that he was open to taking Hawke's advice and relaying it to Meredith, whether they get executed or not.

It makes me wonder if maybe Meredith had asked Cullen to follow Hawke's orders etc because she had planned to get Hawke arrested. Hawke was clearly too politically powerful to take into the circle or scare/bribe to leave Kirkwall, so she had to find another way to get him/her off the scene. Maybe that's why Cullen says "I thought we planned to arrest the Champion" when Meredith decides to try and kill her/him?

That's just me speculating, though.

Oh wow, nice work! Now we have something to point to when someone runs in here to ask that tired old "why do you like Cullen so much?"
