As far as smells.... I don't know. Armor smells like armor. Metalic and leathery. Why do I know this? Because I top secretly have a chain maille hobby. There's a distinct manly flare to it, I suppose. Without the armor I guess it's going to just be his own distinct man smell. I don't see him using fragranced soaps and stuff because who has time when there's evil afoot? No, you aren't a freak. Everyone has thier own little something that they notice more above all else. Smells, hair... for me it's teeth and lips. If you don't take care of your teeth or lips you're just unkissable to me. lol

Mom: "You can a judge a man by his hands."
Me: "How do I know what to look for?"
Mom: "Just look at your father's hands."
Me: ....
Still not quite sure what the criteria were... but my husband sure has nice hands... LOL
And, on the smell... I was writing a scene where he walks up behind my main char, and couldn't imagine what he would smell like,... particularly with armor. Is it metallic and leathery? Or would there be other things? SO, thanks, meanie, that's helpful!

Metallic from the obvious metal bits but leathery from the straps and such. Perhaps there's a certain type of leather oil that Templars use. Some sort of plant extract that would make it distinct. It's just a thought. The only other thing in my mind that would give him his own scent would be if he had recently exerted himself because everyone has thier own sweat stink. (Yum.... take that to bed with you tonight! lol)
LMAO -- yeah, smell quickly devolves into things you don't want to think about too much...

So here's a question... going again with the random theme... What do you think Cullen smells like? You know, he shows up standing behind you, encased in this huge hunk of metal, and is it... metallic? Oil or whatever the hell they clean the armor with? Something cleaner like... soap or whatever he used on those curls? Does he smell/taste like lyrium when he sweats? Am I a freak for being the only one who wondered about this...?
In my current story that I'm writing, I think in one of the chapters I mention that he smells of leather and polishing oils lol, maybe some sandal wood as well

He smells like metal, naturally, but overtones of armor polish (minty). He spends a lot of time in the chapel, so he has a sandalwoood essence, and a vague, herbal thing that's probably rosemary. Basically, he smells like a tin potpouri with added soap. Leather, sandalwood, iron, and vague traces of copper and ash, that's what the lad smells like, if you discount the healthy soapy thingy.R2s Muse wrote...

Sure they do! If you ask me, the problems of mages sometimes....sometimes...outway that of a commoner...

Nah, I think the majority of us are mage supporters or neutral in here.

Where'd you hear that little gem of nonsense? Next to slaves, mages might just have the suckiest lives in Thedas. Even if they didn't have their Chantry problems, they'd still be struggling to grow into their power and handle the occasional demon situation.
Playing a rogue is always my favorite, but there was something extra inspiring about being a mage Warden and overcoming every worn out negative mage stereotype, and being in full control of the magic I used instead of letting it use me. It really is a shame that a few wackos spoil it for the whole bunch.
Is it sad that I know exactly what you mean? And there's the reason I come to this thread: we can debate about the character of the templars/Chantry without my wanting to Internet-maul you.
Of course I probably made a few people angry by not allowing the Chantry debate to become a bash against real-life religion, but alas. "Opinions are like testicles. If you kick them hard enough, it doesn't matter how many you have."

It's the main reason why I like the HN origin the least, because there's little to no conflict in the story, and it's very grating when he/she's practically treated like royalty everywhere because he/she's "The last of the Couslands". And it really cheapens the romance with Alistair, especially when I found out the a HNF can marry him even if he hates you. The only way I feel I can redeem it is if I romance Zevran. But even then, I was disappointed when no one commented on a Human Nobel romancing an elf.

Oh gosh, I can't imagine how anyone could think the mages don't have real problems, but then I don't think I've often heard anyone consider the commoners at all. Interesting. I think that's something we actually don't see nearly enough of in the game, the general fear the common people apparently have about mages. When they portrayed that in Asunder, it was almost jarring, but illuminating. Particularly since it underscored that the mages also need to be protected. But, I think ignorance and fear in non-mages (or... poverity? not sure what the arguments are) are not as great an injustice as being bigoted against and thrown in prison for life because of an accident of birth.
You know, I would love to see a little more of what the average person thinks of the whole mage-templar thing. We "know" that templars used to be the Inquisition before they submitted to Chantry authority, and that they were essentially a militia who protected against rogue mages running around the countryside terrorizing people. I wonder if, now that the mages have escaped the Circles, will we see some of that again? Mages extorting and bullying and oppressing common people now, because they can?

So far today, my kid woke up at 4:30am with one of his fevers and then later I sprayed myself in the side of the face with room spray ( clearly the nozzel should point AWAY from you). My head smells like apple cinnamon now....
And you thought the mages had it bad! LOL

I suspect the templars will be doing more or less the same thing to get lyrium money at this point. You know, I would love to see a little more of what the average person thinks of the whole mage-templar thing. I suppose the dwarves will be in the middle of it as well then, since they're the ones to mine it. I anticipate shady deals running amok with the different factions trying to control the trade.
Yeah, the Dwarves will definitely want to take advantage of things lol.
