Well I didn't get an invite for DA Keep, but I did get one for Elder Scrolls strangely enough  Any of you wonderful people beta playing that game this weekend?

Same...it's my fourth or fifth with them now...lost track. However, I will be unable to attend this one.

Well, for one, the flags are red. Not saying that means anything, but ya never know when they decide to do something simple:

Also, the majority of the templars broke off from the chantry. It can be interfered that many of them turned into the red templars.

One other thing I noticed in this picture is that the sword is facing up, not down like we've seen previously on Templar uniforms and shields.

Yup!It's still downloading though...I made the horrible mistake to uninstall it the first time.May I ask which alliance have you chosen?

Oh I have no idea, first time trying it LOL I played Skyrim for a bit, but after getting spoiled w/ Bioware characters I couldn't stick with it. Says I have to wait till Friday to get on there, but I'm super excited for the character creation of all things

Well if you guys are playing this weekend feel free to send me a message or something to team up. MMOs are SO much more fun in groups.

Well, that's the (other) confusing thing. On DA:O armor, the sword pointed up, with three flames a side.

In DA2, the armor has the sword pointing down with four flames a side.

Moreover, the DA2 load screens and subsequent DA2 paraphernalia at the bioware store, use a different more formal format, pointing up with four flames a side, identical to that one on the trailer templar keep.

So... alas, I don't think that's a new logo.

I have a different character for every alliance but the one I play the most is a Breton mage (Daggerfall covenant).

As much as I love skyrim,I must admit it's characters are extremely bland and dull in comparison to Bioware's.I won't spoil you but the character creation is indeed quite nice in comparison with the previews instalments and we have many options(Oh and we also have flowing hair if I remember correctly...)

Have Fun!

Hmm, so I just went to go look on the site to start downloading the game and I can't find it. Nothing in the email either as far as I can tell. Do I have to wait until Friday to download it?

You copy the beta key then you make an account on TESO website (if the new e-mail came with one, I had been invited to a previous beta but was unable to participate that time because of a small computer disaster lol). You should be able to redeem the code on your account page and begin downloading the game.

No you can download it as soon as you get the invitation,I believe you have to make an account...(or sign in if you already have one)Then, it will direct you to the download page.

The Qunari symbol has a similar problem. Personally, I prefer the version with the square on the bottom, because I feel it better reflects the wave and tide imagery in the Qun.

Spoiler

The graphic designer in me needs to point out that the square on the bottom is also a lot more pleasing to the eye because of the 'weight' of the design. The square -- which is the largest shape within the interior of the design -- being at the top puts all the weight at the top of the insignia which makes it look uncomfortable/strange. While the square being at the bottom gives the design and the shapes that stack on top of it a 'foundation'. /o/

Edit: Just needed to add that this 'rule' doesn't always apply, but it is something to keep in mind when using geometry in logos. The human mind is used to seeing logical structures in geometry, so smaller/thinner shapes being stacked on top of a larger shape just make more sense/looks more comfortable to us.

I've probably failed at articulating what I mean, but anyway! I return you to the discussion at hand and end my intermission here!

That makes perfect sense to me Dirgegun, and quite interesting too!

(Edit: I've noticed a similar effect with the templar symbol too, I guess: the DA:O one has a more aggressive vibe to me than the DA:2 one, with the tip pointing up (agressive), instead of down (more passive/defensive). Perhaps that is why I prefer the DA:2 templar symbol... )

I've got a beta invite for ESO too, so guess I will pop up a few times there. I've got some level 3 Nord paladin hanging around somewhere. Think I've named her Merril, but not sure anymore, lol. At least my account name should be Mahumia as well.

I'll be playing on Saturday evening after the DA DnD stream, I'll be recording it, so if you see a group of really ugly looking characters running around naked that'll be us!

Yes! Good observation!

The DA:O Templar insignia is definitely more aggressive seeming because of how the sword points upward, while the DA2 insignia, with the blade pointing downward comes across as less aggressive and even subservient. It also forms a cross, which makes it a common religious symbol.

(Note: I don't actually know sword symbolism when it comes to point up verse point down, just how they appear and the impression certain imagery gives. /o/ )

I also prefer the more defensive, downwards point to the sword of mercy in DA2. I think it's also a nice sword of Damocles-esque image considering their role with the mages.

Edit
And that's doubly nice because then I get to sing some Rocky Horror.

Oh, that would be fun! Someone would have to teach me how to speak in chat though, cause I haven't figured that one out yet at all XD

Indeed! It also better matches the 'mercy' part to me
