me, too. I'm sure I won't be disappointed if the other writers do his romance arc. I'm really pleased w/the writers they have working on this game. But Gaider has this...special ingredient..that he puts into his romances. Idk wat it is, but it works for me. It's strange cuz it seems as tho he doesn't really care for doing the romances, and all that, yet--so far--his romances are my favorites.
Figures.
I'm the same way. I'll be happy regardless. But his writing just adds something for me.

Fenris is the only DG romance I've had the privilege of experiencing. And obviously I'm a fan ![]()
It would be brilliant if he wrote Cullen. But I suspect he hasn't. He tweeted about learning Cullen's last name. Nobody "learns" about their own character's last name. He also always seems surprised by Cullen's popularity. And he is said to be writing two romances. One of these is said to be a character he's dreamed of writing since starting at BW. We know he's writing Cass, and she's already appeared in DA2, so it's not like it's the first time he's written her. So I'm guessing this character he's excited about writing is probably not Cullen.
Actually, I think it's the Grey Warden guy. The thought just hit me.
EDIT: Friendly reminder that Alistair was originally going to be a more grizzled and hardened Grey Warden character.

Oh, where is that? Maybe it just didn't fit Alistair's character and what he wanted to do for him.
Or maybe DG is writing the bald elf, and that's our second romance by him. He seems pretty defensive of him.

Okay this took me ages to find and I don't even think this is the right one. He was definitely more critical of early Alistair in whatever I read. As in he personally did not like Alistair in that incarnation. Anyway:Oh, where is that? Maybe it just didn't fit Alistair's character and what he wanted to do for him.
Or maybe DG is writing the bald elf, and that's our second romance by him. He seems pretty defensive of him.
"I remember Alistair actually is one in Origins who I really enjoyed writing just because — most people don’t know this — we had an entire version of Alistair where he was this grim, veteran warrior. An older and just a very serious type who was distrustful of you, and he wasn’t much fun.
Nobody liked him because he was so untrustworthy. We really wanted to set this up as a romance interest as well as a good buddy for a male player, and it wasn’t working.
He touched on that Carth [a KOTOR character Gaider also wrote -Ed.] vibe a little bit much, but he really hit a bad note with the male players. So, it came down as one of those revisions where we just couldn’t fix him.
Even though it was painful to make the decision to start all over, it really worked out well. I think Alistair and the fact that he’s fun really came across. He was quite a popular character."
http://venturebeat.c...d-games-as-art/
Ewww, apparently Gaider's also responsible for Carth Syndrome. So it's like he brings such greatness to the world as well as punishing us....
And as for Baldy, I was thinking he was weirdly defensive of him and possibly a tad hostile too, it is hard to convey tone in just text though. Like I thought his response to my Twitter thread question as to who was writing him was particularly...you know. And it would be kind of weird to be so overly protective of someone else's character, unless they were taking it really personally. Ah well, I hope if he is his character, (and therefore likely a LI), they give him that awesome War Room ponytail. Or looks a bit like Zathrian, because you know what I happen to think he is kinda hot. But that may just be the political power from being the clan's Keeper talking.

Ah, and femshep romances...sigh. It did seem she was fighting an uphill battle with all that.
Liara is love.
But Joker, yes, ughghgh, the one guy who has the closest relationship with Shepard, I mean, I was really feeling something between them as I played through the trilogy back to back. I would have preferred him over Kaiden, much as I loved the Kaiden romance. Then to make him fall in "love" with the stupid robot was just... frickin lame. And a slap in the face to his fans.
I... fairly firmly disagree. While setting EDI up with Samantha would have been nice, I honestly think this works really well with Joker.
As for something on-topic, Beardo seems like by far the least interesting character to me, but hopefully he'll be a good Grey Warden infodump. I was sort of hoping Bald Elf Guy wouldn't be an LI myself, as he seems interesting and I don't want to regret missing him because I don't like men.

Hmm, interesting to hear different perspectives. Playing a M!Shep, when Kaiden was pretty much my only option, it felt all tortured and romantic that Shepard waited for him (cause he had to LOL), so when they met again in ME3, it was like, squee-tastic. And then Kaiden was all, I'm so mad at you! And Shep was all, You can hit me if you want, if it makes you feel better, babe
And I was like, I'm so dead *drowns in fangirl puddle* (No he did not really say that, but that's basically how the relationship went!)
Now that I think about it, the Kaiden romance is very similar to the Fenris romance; no wonder I love it
That said, I'm hoping for more mature romances in DA:I; I definitely don't want Cullen to get all huffy and walk away from the romance while my inquisitor twiddles his thumbs and waits for him to come crawling back. Ditto with the other two LIs I'm hoping to get, IB and Beardy. All three are mature individuals, no dramz please!
Oh, it's not how he was angry about Cerberus I'm knocking! Maybe you'd understand if you played a female shepard, romanced him in Mass Effect, and then romanced someone else in ME2. In ME2 there is a very, very clear impression that the relationship is over. Even when Kaidan sends you his little letter (which irked me more than anything, actually.
) it doesn't feel like there's a working relationship any more and it's more on a 'we can wait and see if you want to' level.
If you choose NOT to wait for him, however, and romance someone in ME2, he treats you like a massive cheater in ME3. Suddenly you're this big horrible bad guy because you CHEATED and a female Shepard has no way to call him out on this bullcrap. Instead she only has the option to take the blame onto herself. Either she can apologise or act like she doesn't care that she cheated, I believe? I can't remember the renegade option, but either way there's no option to tell Kaidan it was over and he can stop acting like a Doucheface McGee over it.
Male Shepard, on the other hand, I believe has the option to call Ashley out on her bullcrap? I haven't seen that story run, myself, so I can only go by what I've heard from others. Apparently he can blame her and say he cheated because why the hell wouldn't he? So apparently either way it's the woman's fault? Which is just as crap and sexist, to be honest.

I freely admit that this may be grossly unfair, but Beardo just... looks boring. He looks as though design went into making him a very conventional older warrior type, a bit like Duncan (who was pleasant, but I found him very bland, almost robotic, in personality).

You know, now you've brought it up, he really does seem uninteresting actually. Really the only thing I can think he has going for him is that gallows concept art where he's ripping off his Grey Warden amulet thingy in disgust, which thinking about it now is more or less Cullen's story arc, albeit about a probably far less important issue than the Mage/Templar War. And who knows if that's even still part of his character? As for something on-topic, Beardo seems like by far the least interesting character to me, but hopefully he'll be a good Grey Warden infodump. I know Sera doesn't have much known story surrounding her either, but she at least sounds like a good laugh. And she may be somehow involved in the City Elf rebellion, or have interesting and unique perspectives on certain issues.
Also, and this is sort of cheap advice from a bisexual, but there was a gay guy on that Confessions tumblr who favoured the Isabela romance above all the male romances, but I do think it is worth it to romance someone, even if you have no physical attraction to them. I loved the FemHawke version of the Merrill romance, (can't even go there with Vaughan's VA voicing Male Hawke), even if I wasn't actually attracted to her beyond the Welsh accent.
Edit
Moved a 'really' because that's not what I wanted to say. I'm an idiot.

I don't think it's cheap advice. I found about zero of the DA2 characters attractive (I'm a gay guy), but I absolutely loved a Fenris romance with a male Mage Hawke. I loved the depth of it.
Also, I'm interested in the Grey Warden guy because:
a. Drop dead gorgeous ![]()
b. He's a way in to the Wardens, who clearly have been up to something
c. His romance could be really well done, since he's close to his Calling.

As a graphic designer interested in character design, I think there's a lot to find in that first impression. We don't know a lot about Mystery Elf or Beardy Grey Warden, but their character designs might say a lot. That's not to say characters can't purposely break that mould, though, and turn out to be so much more than the initial impression their appearance gives. In fact my favourite character types are the big, tough looking guys that seem intimidating at first but turns out to be the sweetest of them all.
My first impression from Mystery Elf and his concept art is that he's already seen a lot and now deals with the world with a lazy kind of amusement. That's my first impression from the artwork, at least. I would have to see a closer version of his character model/a simple standing concept artwork to see if that impression would change at all, though.
Beardy Grey Warden, on the other hand, I will admit doesn't really give me a first impression beyond 'cool lookin' older warrior.' I find him aesthetically pleasing to my eye, but I don't feel like there's much character in his design. Perhaps fatherly/grandfatherly/mentor-y if I squint. It's not until that concept art in the tavern and that concept of him removing his Grey Warden necklace that he starts to seem like a man who can joke with the best of them but is also devoted to his convictions. Whatever happened at those gallows went against his beliefs and he stuck to his guns.
Personally, while a lot of people seem to dislike him because he's not some pretty boy and that is a apparently a terrible crime, I find Mr. Flaily Hands Guy the most interesting from a concept point of view. There's character in his design, and I love me some character. Just from the first impression his design and the concept gives me he seems like he could be a real lark to be around.

Yeah, those are all the same impressions I get from what little we know. But Beardface in particular with the mentor thing, I'd always seen it in respect to the Inquisitor, but what if he pulls a Wynne and tries to help guide some of the other companions? In particular Cullen. I know I just criticised him for having basically the same story arc, but if he was trying to guide him, that could make for an interesting relationship and banter possibilities. Like an Iroh/Zuko thing, for the Avatar fans that would get that reference.

I think that's harsh. 1. It is okay to not find a character attractive and to thus have no interest in romancing him (so far, knowing nothing about him yet), and 2. What little I can glean from that single picture is that he is foppish and foolish, and that does not appeal to me on any level of character appreciation.
