Well that stinks!  :?  I much preferred the original idea that templars didn't need lyrium to use their abilities but that it made them more powerful/easier and the Chantry only insisted on knights taking it to make them more formidable as well as dependent on the Chantry.

DG also confirmed it here.

I can see lyrium being a necessity to those who do not already have a connection to the Fade. Lyrium seems to be a substitute for that connection, or a substitute of power from that connection - if a mage left it alone, mana would naturally restore itself. A templar would have to constantly replenish that pool of power, as would a mage if in constant battle. Templars taking lyrium need that substitute to subdue spells - fight fire with fire, basically.

As for the religion topic...

I am fascinated with the Black City, especially after Corypheus spoke about it. He said it was black when he and his fellow magisters stepped into the Fade. What made it tainted? Some other mortal sin? Or perhaps their god had already abandoned his creation way back when. Or perhaps that is where the Old Gods dwelt, and leaving their home tainted it?

So I just have to share the highlight of my day: One of my residents was drawing pictures of us as our superhero alter egos. When she gave me my drawing, she specified that I should look at the eyebrows.

She drew me with one raised eyebrow!  Apparently that is my characteristic response to their antics. It made me laugh.

To perhaps be more clear, I'm not talking about the "pro-templar" or "pro-mage" positions in DA2. I mean pro-templar as in around these parts, we generally don't hate the templars. So, I'm not describing myself as someone who always kicked Keran to the curb and supported Meredith's rants and purge of the Gallows.

Yeah, agreed - that's what I was trying to get at, too. I think of myself as pro-templar but I tend not to call myself that because it creates unfortunate misunderstandings.

gasp all of this lore speak I missed

*cracks knuckles*

I suppose I'll just say I consider myself a moderate between the mage/templar issue. Both sides have good points and bad.

Although I do side with mages most every time because I find the outcome to be more desirable, personally... Except for the whole deal with Grace, since she goes batshit cray cray and blames Hawke regardless. Also I side with the mages at the end of DA2 because I find wanting to slaughter the entire circle for what Anders did to just be insane. Meredith was just waiting for a reason and she definitely took it.

And gosh, with these books being released, I wonder how much they'll get into the Orlais/Grey Warden deal? Makes me wonder more what more we'll find out in game itself. Makes me wish Apocrypha was the game's title a bit.

I have a couple theories on the Black/Golden City. After playing Legacy, I started to think maybe it always looked Golden from the outside, a proper looking "throne of God", so to speak. All glorious and regal and just daring anyone to try to reach it. Then the magisters finally do and well, oops. It's a trick, and makes me think of Fen'harel being a troll. Set a trap just waiting to be sprung.

Another is that the city itself might simply be subjective. Golden for the pure hearted goodie goods that might have made it (assuming any mortal had set foot there before the magisters) and black for the corrupt. I'm sure the magisters didn't kill thousands of slaves for blood just to invite the Maker to a tea party with Dumat.

Or at the end of the day it could just be the seat of the Maker that became corrupt when the foul magisters set foot there, He got buttmad and unleashed the darkspawn taint upon humanity.

And speaking of religion/gods in the setting, the only god-like being I'd want to see is actually Fen'harel. I'd also like him to turn out to be somewhat benevolent as well, like he had to trap the gods because they were going to implode the world or something if he didn't. I'm fine with just a cray, lulzy troll at the end of the day. Every other god can remain dubious as far as I am concerned.

I'm sure I am totally wrong and any dev who'd read it would laugh their ass off. Regardless, speculation is fun.  B)

Fen'harel would definitely be the one god I'm the most interested in hearing more of. Reminds me of Loki, and various other trickster gods.

Ugh. I've been so bored lately, I've actually *gasp* ventured outside this thread...

Which inevitably lead me to a place where I can't help but slightly argue/disagree with people. Which reminds me why I rarely post anywhere anyway, as that also reminds me of reading comments at the end of news articles and being so annoyed/offended one must say something. Even knowing they won't be listened to, and no doubt their words will be picked apart and twisted into some semblance that barely resembles what they said originally.

All in all, bless this lovely little safe haven of Culleny goodness.

Same here,I can definitely see some Norse mythology elements in the elven pantheon. Fen'harel is a wolf is a wolf that tricked both the creators and the forgotten ones  and sealed them away when his equivalents Loki/Fenrir in Norse mythology were the ones sealed away by the gods for their trickery. Also both Loki and Fenrir play a major role In Ragnarok(the end of the world etc...) I can see some parallels with the current situation in Inquisition, especially having in mind one of the theories about Flemeth, according to which Flemeth=Fen'Harel...I should probably stop analysing Norse mythology now, sorry for getting off topic people!

Fen'harel! I am so damn curious about that bastard you do not understand. Definitely my favourite of the Elven Gods simply because of how fascinating I find him and the possible Norse parallels.

um ok feeling like a ****** but what this have to do with Loghain? The tweet was by the casting director. /confused

Oh sorry, I thought you were expressing hope to see Loghain again?

I might need to explain. You were hoping for Loghain, perhaps a Cameo or a part?

I think some characters are linked in an either/or kind of way. If they will show up as cameos or part of quests as NPCs depends on our choices. If Alistair shows up as a Grey Warden, we won't see Loghain and vice versa. If Alistair is a drunk, dead or a King we might. If Alistair is not part of the game then I find it very hard to believe that Loghain will ...

...unless they make a special "loghain ONLY" cameo!

Actually the Loghain only cameo could make sense, because he didn't show up in DA2 (or Awakening) if he was a Grey Warden, it was Stroud. So we can expect him to have chosen another path? We might now get to see what he did after the Blight.

Sorry I was not clear. I was just speculating a little bit. :?

In fact, it's interesting, that Cullen thread. You know, *that* one in the DAI Character section has been renamed and the OP has been edited to remove any invitations to talk about the fans. I wonder if my complaints, or more likely Lola's, finally reached someone.

He was tasked with recruiting Wardens in Ferelden then died.

But the ending slides are just rumours...

Loghain remained with the Grey Wardens, pressed into service as the primary recruiter in Ferelden. He performed diligently for several years, until finally the taint wore too hard on his aged body. After a solemn service with his fellow Wardens, Loghain traveled to Orzammar to take his final march into the Deep Roads.

OK. No worries. Yes, I was expressing excitement about Loghain, but based on a tweet from the casting director that she'd just worked with his VA. And MLaidlaw's further confirmation that Simon Templeman was in the recording booth. I was a little confused why the Steve Valentine tweet speculation was relevant, except perhaps to suggest that the tweets about Simon were just as misleading.   Anyway, connection wasn't clear to me after a long day. We know you have inside tracks, so perhaps you were suggesting that Loghain is out too!  But now I see, and agree, that it lends greater credence to an Alistair cameo of some kind. /fingers crossed

So anyway... yeah, I would love Loghain to show up, and given that he was supposedly sent to Orlais in some playthroughs, that could be fascinating! I mean, Loghain + Orlais would be awesome no matter how or why he showed up. It could be the same actor in a different role, but I'm hoping not!  :D

That was in DA:O, yes, but I could have SWORN there was something about Logain going to work with the Grey Wardens in Orlais in... perhaps Awakening? I'm pretty certain there was something like that somewhere coupled with a threat towards the warden if he dared break Anora's heart if they're married. Unless I somehow made this all up, in which case I need to worry about myself.

I believe the Orlais thing was from Awakenings. Regardless, Morrigan's in Orlais and that was also from the epilogue slides.

From the wiki:
"In Awakening (if a Warden was imported with Loghain alive at the end), he arrives at Vigil's Keep and states that he has been transferred to the city of Montsimmard to serve with the Orlesian Grey Wardens, by order of the Grey Warden leaders in Weisshaupt."

That's good, though it took 'em long enough. Granted, there's so much poo doo to wade thru on these forums, I guess it's understandable if some things take a while to correct.

I hate confrontation, but I'm very opinionated and easily annoyed. Best way to combat that is to try not to read things that'll conflict with that. Easier said than done. I try to stay far away from any other Cullen threads that pop up. Plus I doubt I could say anything that hasn't already been said. The fans should always be left out of their discussions, though. One thing to hate on a character, another to associate made up conceptions about fans of said character usually based on zilch or, what's usually the case, it's a case of seeing less than a handful of people act a certain way about him and that validates them in thinking -everyone- who likes him is the same.

Typing up a big nasty argument to jerks like that and then deleting it instead of posting it is quite cathartic without actually getting into a huge fight. It is for me, anyway.

It is funny, this whole Cullen hating reminds me sooooo much of ME.

Varric would be Garrus of course, everyone loves him, he could have a rocket strapped to his behind and fly around the globe and pull some Superman move to turn back time and it would be all plausible, awesome and great. He is your Shepar .... I mean Inquisitors best friend and can't make a wrong move.

Cullen is Kaidan /Carth .... He is whiney, doesn't trust your PC and is just all around lame. Whatever he does, he will never, I mean never, not in a million years come even close to the greatness that is Varric/ Garrus.

I don't see the need of the nay-sayers to constantly mention "fangirls/boys". I mean what are you proving, other than you being a jerk? I have no issues with people not liking a character, I dislike my share of them, but I don't feel the need to shame their fanbase ...

"I would laugh if he was a companion, but not a LI! trollolololo" and then turns around and posts hearts in the Cassandra thread .....

Getting really tired of whatever girls like is silly, only boys know whats awesome. (I know not all guys are the same)

Sorry ... end rant. My patience is being sucked dry by potty training my twin girls for the last few days .... sooo much laundry, ugh.

And y'know what the funniest thing about that is? If the majority of them actually met the "fangirls" in real life they'd be brown nosing the **** out of them/us because "omg women who game!!!" I would LOVE to see them dare come up to us in real life and give it the "Cullen sucks trolololololol" thing, half of them wouldn't have the guts to even talk to us.
