What I want is for one of them to come up to me and tell me why they dislike Cullen, but done in the same way they do it on the forums: full of venom and pent up anger. They wouldn't do it, because no one talks to a stranger like that to their face...(unless that person has mental issues, in which case it's not their fault).

Typing up a big nasty argument to jerks like that and then deleting it instead of posting it is quite cathartic without actually getting into a huge fight. It is for me, anyway.
I do this too, and it's actually a big part of why I don't have many posts. ![]()

Is it wrong that I want to slap half these people that just make fun of us all the time? It makes me so goddamn angry.
Nope, I'll happily join you and I'm such a non confrontational person that this is really weird for me to say such a thing, lol ( I don't even return food I don't like, because I don't want to hurt the cooks feeling, lol. I'm pathetic)

Gosh, agree. Did the same myself.
In fact, it's interesting, that Cullen thread. You know, *that* one in the DAI Character section has been renamed and the OP has been edited to remove any invitations to talk about the fans. I wonder if my complaints, or more likely Lola's, finally reached someone.
The Cullen Thread really is one of the better threads in these forums. This one and the Twitter thread are where I usually roam. Sometimes I take a stroll around the forums. Lurk and loom here and there. Sometimes even post in other threads.
But the Cullen thread is the best for discussion. I find that too often bickering, fighting and arguing gets passed off as "discussion". But it's really not. It does seem to have gotten better, though. I've been seeing a few threads that are indeed good discussion. Where ppl are making their points within a few posts, perhaps a gentle rebuttal, or clarification then........they move on. Pages and pages of 2 or 3 posters arguing abt the same bs is........tiring to my scrolling finger...>__>
Still, the Cullen thread is not only good discussion, it is a go to place for current info. Even moreso than the Twitter thread. Because while others are just becoming aware of a tweet, or a clue, lol!, the Cullen thread has already gathered the info and begun analysis....complete with screen captures. God, I love that in you guys.
Yeah, Cullen folks are a strong minded group, but yet there is still common courtesy and cooperation. Even when ppl disagree--but seeing things from different angles does give me a better understanding of the bigger picture. Catches sum details or perspectives I may have missed, or dismissed.
So, yeah...I haven't seen that Other Cullen thread on the main DAI board...hmm. Is it gonna ****** me off?

It is funny, this whole Cullen hating reminds me sooooo much of ME.
Varric would be Garrus of course, everyone loves him, he could have a rocket strapped to his behind and fly around the globe and pull some Superman move to turn back time and it would be all plausible, awesome and great. He is your Shepar .... I mean Inquisitors best friend and can't make a wrong move.
Cullen is Kaidan /Carth .... He is whiney, doesn't trust your PC and is just all around lame. Whatever he does, he will never, I mean never, not in a million years come even close to the greatness that is Varric/ Garrus.
I don't see the need of the nay-sayers to constantly mention "fangirls/boys". I mean what are you proving, other than you being a jerk? I have no issues with people not liking a character, I dislike my share of them, but I don't feel the need to shame their fanbase ...
"I would laugh if he was a companion, but not a LI! trollolololo" and then turns around and posts hearts in the Cassandra thread .....
Getting really tired of whatever girls like is silly, only boys know whats awesome. (I know not all guys are the same)
Sorry ... end rant. My patience is being sucked dry by potty training my twin girls for the last few days .... sooo much laundry, ugh.
Had to break out of religiously lurking this thread to respond. I couldn't agree more. I remember this same old drum being beaten back on the original Bioware forums with Carth as well. I pretty much stopped posting because of how you would get jumped on for just mentioning him. Then when ME came out I figured i'd re-join and lo, same damn thing with Kaidan. Then same again with Alistair. So these days I just don't bother and stick to lurking. At least that way I keep my sanity, over the double standards.
On the other hand though, I have been reading the Cullen thread in the story forum and actually i've been surprised by how many people have said that they'd like him as a companion, or that while they're indifferent to him, have no objection if he is. So it's not all bad, there's hope yet ![]()
Oh and even though my boys are now grown up, I remember the potty training very well and the frustration. At least you have girls, with boys you sometimes wonder if they ever finished potty training LOL

I work with belligerent young people who think they know everything (college English teacher) so I'm kind of used to smiling placidly in the face of racism/sexism/homophobia/you name it. But that's not to say it doesn't get under my skin because it does!!! (Here on the BSN I mean.) Most of the time I am pretty calm, and I will attempt to engage the topic in an intelligent and thoughtful way if it intrigues me, but once I see the person responds in an irrational and childish manner, I lose interest in the whole conversation.
One thing I do like is the "like" system; I notice that an intelligent post gets lots of "likes" whereas the vitriolic troll posts get none (or only their fellow trolls). That's enough to make me realize it's not worth a reply. My fellow intelligent peeps know what's up ![]()

The dev Allan Schumacher usually posts some very thoughtful, intelligent posts on those kinds of topics, and I always like reading them. I usually end up liking all of his posts lol

Funnily enough, when I originally posted my thing, wasn't even talking about those bleh Cullen threads.
Because I don't venture to them, I -know- I'm gonna be seeing some anger-inducing ridiculous stuffs, so I purposely avoid to spare myself the irritation and the headache of arguing with stubborn ignorant types.
Pretty much all over the internet I see truly vile things, especially amongst certain fandoms. The people get pretty damned violent and nasty, makes me not want to say or add anything for fear of drawing their attention. I'm a very asocial/avoidant type, rarely talk to people. But I stopped lurking here, because this thread makes me feel safe enough. There really are alot of vibrant, open minded, considerate, and nice people here.
Definitely proud to be part of this Cullen thread. Haters can keep hating.

Yeah, for my two playthroughs that I actually completed, he dies both times. Both Wardens were besties with Alistair and understand his pain and fury regarding not just the Grey Wardens but Duncan's death in particular. My Dalish Warden in particular also kind of had a bond with Duncan that could have really grown into something lovely, the father he never had (since Dalish Warden's parents are both dead), and to have Loghain snap that in half before it even gets off the ground... so, so wrong.
Plus I personally just don't like the character, so there's that, too! ![]()

Allan's usually pretty awesome, but some of his responses in the "marketing to women" thread just made me want to sigh and beat my head against the screen (I opted to just sigh). He's a thoughtful and considerate guy but I guess sometimes it's hard to see around the patriarchy, even when you're genuinely trying.

What responses did he make there that did so? I stopped checking into it after a while.

I don't know if anybody really ventures around twitter/tumblr, but I definitely see a fair share of, not Cullen hate (don't really care whether you like him or not, each to their own), but just outright Cullen Thread mockery. "Cullen Thread is such a joke great entertainment", "only the Cullen Thread could have such logic" and the usual "stupid fangirls" attitude.
It's just... Why does the fanbase always have to be drug into it? I'd be lying if I didn't say it makes me just want to completely drop the BW fandom altogether.
