I'm guessing that's because we have yet to see a big up close and detailed image of his face yet. Everything is so tiny.
I really want to see his eye colour, personally.
I'm hoping for a nice green or blue, or perhaps something more exotic. Elves always had the prettiest eyes.

So they were told to just sort of ambiguously mention Leliana and Cullen? How strange.
I guess I don't think it sounds strange. I'm sure the interviewer learned all sorts of things that didn't appear in the article. Like probably all the companions. I could easily see him asking, "What's something I could tease the readers about? Can I mention any of the other returning cast?" Devs side-eye each other. One shrugs. "Um, Leliana?" The other shakes his head. "Cullen. Definitely Cullen." The first dev breaks into an evil grin and nods. "Cullen."

Yeah, I'd meant to quote one of Curry Art's posts.
I don't think he's that different in term of graphic quality from the others. I'd wait for his official appearance in a better quality image to judge it.
I think that they might be told to not reveal their role in the game, but that teasing about their appearance was fine.So they were told to just sort of ambiguously mention Leliana and Cullen? How strange.

No, DG has explicitly stated, for ex, that not everyone in the War Room is a companion.

Yeah I'm feeling very negative about my fic. I'm going to feel really stupid posting a Cullen x Inquisitor fanfic, now that we pretty much figure he's not going to be in the game. Add that to my fears that I've gotten the lore wrong and that it makes no sense to have them at an Orlesian Ball, sigh.

He's in the New Home concept art too. And there's still Mustachios, Scribe Girl, Mysterious Red Head/Leliana in there.
What if those three are the heads of the three different arms of the Inquisition? Like that 'Red Fist', (Mustachios), the 'Purple Crows', (MRH/Leliana), and the 'Golden Keys', (Scribe Girl)?

Ah, now, don't let it get you down! It's fiction! Cullen could have sex with your Inquisitor on the moon, and it could still be a fun story.

You really ought to finish your fic. Who gives a flying f*ck if he's in the game or not (figuratively). It doesn't make your fic any less valid or good. So keep on writing.
