The fella with the mustache seems more like a diplomat/faction leader to me. He doesn't seem like a fighter.

 

That was the impression I got from the War Room art. Mainly because of where/how he's standing - Mustache Guy is not in the Inquisitor's inner ring (if you follow each character's direction of motion for where they break to instead of seeing them as stationary, you'll probably see what I mean by "rings,") but he's not far enough out to appear like he's just observing as Solas does. He seems to be a stakeholder based on his reaction but his positioning and body language (he pulls back rather than leaning in as Varric and Cass do) don't indicate emotional closeness with the Inquisitor.

 

...Way to read into things, I know, but that was my initial impression.

LOL Um, yeah, that's been the prevailing consensus [[edit: that the pic is him, not necessarily that he's a companion]], not that it's been confirmed one way or another.   It's from War Room. 

 

 

 

 

Is it just me, or does anyone else thinks he looks a little more... rugged? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I feel like the only one here who really doesn't find the idea of four possible warriors strange. In DA:O there were way more warriors to pick from than rogues or mages. I mean I'm remaining carefully optimistic, but I don't think "oh noes, there's so many warriors!" is a reason to panic? I'm really, really not expecting an extra mage seeing Bioware doesn't seem keen on the 'could potentially have an entire party of mages' idea. MAYBE a rogue, but... eh....

 

Four warriors really wouldn't shock me. In fact, that was kind of what I expected from the start.

 

I'm not really expecting Cole or any Asunder characters to be companions, either, personally. I am definitely expecting one or more of them to turn up, though!

 

So, at least from where I'm standing, Cullen still has the same chance he always did.   

 

And, if the mage thing is correct, that might minus us a flaily hands guy because he seems to be a mage/a potential Dorian. Unless he's a rogue and not Dorian, I guess...

I don't think it's strange at all. In Origins, there were 4 warriors including dog, and 5 if you had Shale. In the time period the game is set, I don't think it's that unusual to find more warriors than rogues or mages.

Yep, as I once confessed here, that pic is the one and only time I genuinely found Cullen attractive, as in, my type

If you look up close, can see it better and part of the hand guard sorta blended into the trident. So that says to me, a dual wielder, if that cancels out that trident being a staff.

True enough, Iron Bull definitely gives off that vibe to me and Mr Flaily Hands, Moustache, Trident Guy I feel is either one of the dropped ones, or an important NPC but then again my personal wants are probably playing into that somewhat.....ugh, this is beginning to remind me of waiting to learn if Kaidan was going to be a squad member in ME2, that certainly didn't go the way I wanted at the time heh.

Yeah I don't think trident guy is a staff wielder either. It's a sword he is reaching for and I don't think the trident is a magical weapon. He might be a dual wielder or it's just a concept where we see the secondary equipped weapon set.

Someone suggested that Moustache was a chevalier.
All I can say in that regard is that in one of the GI video, when they shown a wall of concept arts, there was one with a character that looked like him, in a red dress, that was towering over a dwarf that was working on something. The concept gave me the vibe of a chancellor-type of character.

I'm wracking my brain for when we've seen possible mustache/trident/flaily hands/chevalier/whatever everyone calls him. All I can think of is:
 

Here's a repost of what I posted yesterday. I think this dude is the one where there's been the most confusion. Until DG clarified, everyone was convinced Solas was Dorian. Now everyone is calling this guy Dorian. Trident guy in the leaked survey does seem to be reaching for a sword, which argues against being a mage. BUT maybe the dude in War Room, with the flaily hands, isn't the same. Then he could be a mage. 
 
Someone tried to convince me that he looks like a Chevalier because of the style of his armor is similar to some we saw in MotA. I'm not really convinced, tho, since we also some of the same in DA2. But could be.

 

His outfit does look similar between  War Room and the dude kneeling in Surrender. Not 100% certain either since he's hooded in the latter. 

 

The chancellor-like pic Elder King mentioned is there, too, which has the floppy mustache, but not the flavor saver on his chin. So not sure that's the same guy either.

 

Honestly, I think this one needs more info. I think the closest association we can really make is that the trident guy from the leaked survey may be the guy in War Room. Even that isn't quite certain. Other than that, anything goes. They could even be four separate individuals. :shrug:

I think he's just an NPC myself like Scribe Girl, (worst superhero name ever), seems to be. I posted earlier I think he's in charge of the Inquisition's military. Technically, Cullen could fulfil that role too, however Cullen's status as a Templar would make him far too controversial among what appears, in my eyes, to be a pro-mage majority in the playerbase to have such a neutral role. Chevaliers, on the other hand, are far more neutral.

All this speculation with class balance is screwing with my head. DA2 had an almost perfect balance no matter how you looked at it, but DAO didn't and we're seeing way too few women for Inquisition to believe balance is a top priority imho.

Rogues: Isabela, Varric, (Sebastian)
Mages: Merrill, Anders, (Bethany)

I just don't see this being possible or at least likely for Inquisition. So that means anything goes, really.

If we're truly not getting Cullen and in general getting as few women as we seem to be getting, I'll probably be a little disappointed panda when looking at the cast (even if I'll end up loving all the characters in it).

That's what I think.
I also believe they might have made changes even after this concept art. Stuff like that happens.

Btw, I think that the 'stabmurderknife the map' picture is cool if you think about it from the circle of people perspective like someone mentioned. I'm guessing only the core party are the ones touching the table. The rest are NPCs.
