Look what I got yesterday. A new baby nephew. Isn't he the BEST baby in the world? If praying is your thing we wouldn't mind some extras, he's having a bit of trouble transitioning and will have to stay in the hospital a few days to make sure he's good. (Had a bit of a fever yesterday). But still, isn't he presh???? His name is Maddox Odin.

Congrats on the new nephew! And Maddox Odin is an awesome name.

The thing that made me contemplate it being a uniform was, well, first the similar colors, but then I saw how the yellow(ish) bits sort of matched on M!Cullen and Leliana. Scribe Girl really is only tangentially related, and that’s completely a color-based thing, which, admittedly, is pretty slim on the evidence but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The armor is a great point! (And makes me think this meeting happened in the middle of M!Cullen getting dressed, so he had to rush down here before they killed each other. ) And it sent my mind tumbling down another line of thoughts, so, bare with me.

We know (or can assume) that the elf in the back is Solas, and thus he wouldn’t need any armor-ish bits because, well, mage. M!Cullen, Cassandra, and the Inquisitor are the most armored people there. Varric can be excused because he is a rogue. So unless Flaily is a rogue (mage is unlikely) he is distinctly adorned in fancy materials, and doesn’t look suited for a combat position, much like Scribe Girl. Even Leliana kinda looks underdressed for battle. (That said, Leliana is kick-ass and has no need for silly leather armor pfft.)

Your point about positions is very interesting. Looking at the image again, the two that seem distressed about what is going on are Flaily and Scribe Girl. Solas, Leliana and Cullen are invested, but not freaking out. The people at the table are a mess, though, so.
It makes me wonder if Flaily is a political adviser of sorts, if he’s an NPC.

Of course we could (and probably are) putting far more thought into this than necessary, but it’s fun!

I actually do pause whenever I look at that elf, and consider the possibility that he is not Solas. It is very, very possibly that this concept is earlier than the others we've seen him in, and thus the design in his face has changed dramatically, but other than perhaps clothes this elf looks nothing like Solas. He has a completely different facial structure to the elf we've seen popping up in other concepts and now finally in a demo/screencaps.

And man, analysing stuff is fun! So all the analyses I do come with a disclaimer that I'm just lookin' into the image/designs and to not take it as gospel.

And editing because thoughts:

What I meant by investment, is that the maybe!Cullen seems more focused on the Inquisitor and the characters within the argument, while the other characters there, while they're certainly reacting to what is going on, are more focused on themselves. Lelianna, Flaily Hands Guy, Scribe Girl and the smug elf aren't focused on anyone but their own reaction. They aren't reaching towards anyone or leaning into argue. Instead they've pulled back.

The elf is watching on in possible thought and amusement, Lelianna appears more annoyed with those around her, Scribe Girl is covering her own mouth in shock but not actually trying to stop what has shocked her and Flaily Hands Guy is more focused on his own reaction to stabbing mahogany the situation getting out of control and descending into tempers. The Inquisitor, Cassandra, Varric and Maybe!Cullen are the only characters within that circle that are focused on more than themselves and their own little bubble.

Babies are the best, and this one is full of snuggly awesome!

Odin is a great name. A friends baby is named Thor - too bad they aren't neighbours, the playdates would be epic!

I completely agree; I don't see this guy being a companion, not from this concept art alone. He looks like a counselor or diplomat, possibly a faction leader. Sigh, Scribe Girl, I really hope she is an NPC romance option... she looks so sweet and cute and kind of nerdy/cool.

You're going to make me cry  :crying: The depiction of the elf in that concept art filled me with such hope, and I was so excited to meet this guy. Instead we get solemn-faced poorly-dressed baldy. Blah.

well to be fair the only images we've seen of his face so far are in battle mode - so presumably he's concentrating hard on the task at hand. I still have high hopes for snarky one liners and smirks.

I'm with you on the clothes though, what the hell were they thinking? I can only assume all the pleas for mage pants got them all huffy. "You want pants? WE'LL GIVE YOU PANTS!!!!"

To be fair, even the A New home concept of Solas is completely different from what we saw in the Gamestar pics. They probably tries different versions. Event Beardy/Feathers seems different in the two concepts.

I'm sure I'll like Solas once we get to properly meet him, but I have to admit how curious I am about him has dropped a bit now that it at least appears he's not this elf-- or, at least, not designed like this elf anymore. I liked the smug attitude I saw in this particular concept. I like characters with depth, of course, but those that tend to appear solemn from the get go aren't a type that attract me off the bat.

I also prefer the stronger jawline the elf in the war room concept appears to have. >.>

Saying that, if we're shown something with proof of snarkiness I will become curious again.

I'm pretty sure he's the same elf, based on the clothes. Just a different version. We know that Fenris changed a lot during development.

Very likely, yes. It was more just idle wonder rather than a concrete belief I had.

I don't know what happened to Solas in this picture (because I'm pretty sure that's him). A few other pieces of art had "Sera" with this exact haircut, so I wonder if the art team had fallen in love with the shaved-ponytail look, but the writers put a kibosh on it because they'd envisioned Solas as bald (the opposite of the other mage, Vivienne, perhaps). Which is a shame because I really like the shaved-ponytail, even on Sera. Perhaps it will be in the CC?

(Personally, I don't mind Solas being bald. I kinda like it, really.)

Oh, yes, I understood what you meant about investment, I simply couldn't come up with a better term.  :D The fact that M!Cullen is actively reaching for the Inquisitor (out of concern? mmmmm) makes me all sorts of happy. Yay! Someone is worried about my character in some fashion! Does that mean I don't have to be the strong one all the time?

Yeah, they can't seem to make up their minds about these elf boys, huh? I wonder why. Zevran also looks dramatically different in concept art. I love Fenris' final look and thank the gods they didn't go with some of their other ideas. But it almost seems with this guy they went with NOTHING. Drab face, drab clothes, no hair. I'm hoping he's still under construction, but he's appearing in gaming magazines now, so, that's a disappointment.

I hope we do get to choose it in the CC! It might be the hairstyle I'll use for my female qunari if it's an option for her. I hope the shaved head option looks better than it did in DA:O and DAII as well, because I might go with that for my male human rogue.

And yes for companions worrying about the Inquistor-- and I am DEFINITELY expecting times where our character doesn't always have to be strong. They lightly touched on this idea when Hawke's mother died, but now with this 'reaction wheel' and the option to choose the emotions our character shows, I imagine there'll be at least some possible instances where our character is the one who needs comfort. And that makes me so damn excited.

And for me that is the weird part.  He’s appearing in magazines and yet I still don’t have a firm grip on what he REALLY looks like.  My eyes see what is there and my brain is trying to fill it in and put together a clearer, more complete picture, but either it’s just not happening or I’m rejecting it.  I will be much happier – one way or the other – after I get my hands on his character kit.

Interesting. Something from a German poster on that article that's coming out Wednesday.

I've just watched the GameStar preview video (I'm a subscriber and get it two days early). Few new scenes, but the quality of the ones we know is just jaw-dropping! The YT version doesn't even remotely do it justice! I wonder what kind of PC I must get to play DAI on those settings.

There's also an extended preview article I haven't read yet. The GameStar people seem most impressed by the tactical combat system. For some reason, they weren't allowed to show it in the video, but they wax enthusiastic about it, and that doesn't happen too often with these guys.

The article is subtitled "Bioware get their act together", LOL! This refers to DA2's flaws which are said to be consequently eradicated.

That's okay; I know a lot of people do and I don't mean to trump others' opinions with my own (I can do that sometimes without meaning to; I guess I have strong opinions ). Yeah I'm not loving the bald head as for as romance options go, but even if he's a non-romance companion, his overall look just seems to lack that special something, you know? His clothing is drab, I mean, he seems like he's wearing his underwear. His face and expression in the GameStar magazine is nothing special again, though to be fair, he's in the heat of battle and probably concentrating.

Honestly, I think it says a lot that they literally posted the guy weeks ago, when they did the blog update, and they showed a bald elf wearing various outfits. Most people thought that was a generic placeholder figure so as to show off the clothes.

Exactly.  I'm really looking forward to getting more of a sense of his presence, which I think has as much to do with personality as it does with physical appearance.

Edit:  Not that I'm against a character having a pleasing physical appearance.  ;)

Solas' default wardrobe does seem a little...bland. I did like some of the variations on his outfit that we saw a while back, though.
