1. Merrill

2. Anders

3. Leliana (?)

4. Alistair

5. Varric

Those, at least, are my top five. I'm not sure about the order for the rest. Leliana has a question mark because I don't know how much of her was real.

Sometimes, I think I'm the only one who actually likes Velanna.

I do too. Quite a bit. She just doesn't have enough character development in DAI yet.

As for my opinions on Inquisition companions... as of yet unsorted, except that Vivienne is at the bottom, and will be at the bottom of every DA character list of mine in the forseeable future.

I'm honestly surprised you'd rank Alistair that high.
As for Leliana, what do you think she might be lying of?

You meant DAA, right?
As for DAI, Varric is at the top since he's my 2nd favourite of all DA companions, and I don't know enough of the others (even Cassandra).

I remember reading this cool theory that Leliana was totally fake throughout the whole of Origins. The whole vision, romance, piety, everything was pretty much all lies. I actually liked the idea of it. Made me more interested in her to be honest

I bumped Alistair above Varric because Varric strikes me as deceptive; we're friends for seven years and yet he barely mentions anything at all about himself or his past. It gets annoying. Alistair also holds the rank because I don't have any serious problems with his character and I like being around him; basically, nothing about him annoys me. The one possible exception, with Loghain at the end, doesn't apply anymore because I just have him duel Loghain and kill him automatically (which is IC, as my Wardens feel like this is mostly his fight).

Leliana... well, she lied about the Orlesians capturing her, for one; it was actually Raleigh. But more importantly, I don't know how long she's really been working as a Seeker; I no longer trust that she was just a Chantry sister. And I don't know how we separated after DAO, but it doesn't sound good.

So in that blurb about Vivienne it says she'll stop at nothing to get what she wants... I wonder what would happen if the Inquisitor wants the mages to be free of the circle? Would she backstab us? Would she backstab us regardless (even if we were pro-circle) to ensure she "wins"?

There's probably a larger common goal in common than just mages.

Fair enough about Leliana, though I don't think she was a Seeker/Chantry event in DAO. The DA2 cameo didnt give the impression of a rough break-up/separation. Maybe we'll know more in DAI.
Thanks for the explanation about Alistair and Varric :).

Same! I also missed Isabela the first time in DA2 as well! I've only managed to keep her once, and that was by sleeping with her because I couldn't get her to full friendship for the life of me!

The secret is one very particular cutscene interaction with her. The one where she buys you a round and you talk at the table. It doesn't appear big at all, it looks super small in the notifications.

Well she does have an amulet in origins,The seeker's circle I think it's called...The first time I paid attention to her initial gear and found it,made me a bit suspicious of her,as well..

Wow. What is it about Alistair that is so, so special? He is in our top 5, for all of us. (And I am not someone who romanced him, so it's not just the romance.) He's not MY favorite character, but I do love him. And so do we all, apparently.

I guess that's the sign of a hell of a well-written character.

EDIT: And Isabela seems to be in our top 10 at least. Hats off to the pirate queen!

I bolded that to show that you answered your own question. :D

My pleasure. There's one more annoying thing about Alistair, but it's not his fault: his character arc sort of peters out long before the end of the game, with him saying basically nothing until he suddenly gets a role again in the Landsmeet. I hate talking to him in camp and getting "Ask away" with no conversation options.

This, I don't believe; Leliana says that the Warden is dear to her heart in DA2, and she'd have no reason to say so to Hawke if it wasn't true.

Oh Yeah, that was annoying. In my most recent playthroughs I tried to distribuite his dialogues through the game.

I vaguely remember it being a run-up to the release of DA2 theory. I don't fully believe it either, but I want to believe it because I do like the idea. Plus, it would help explain the plot holes in her story, as you mentioned earlier, beyond, 'We just wanted the DLC to be more exciting'.

I actually find that testament to his character. I think he's pretty much the biggest character in Origins, so for people to run out so quickly just shows how much people actually like his character.

Alistair's very easy to like, unless you have some kind of vendetta against people who are sad over the deaths of close friends.

Yeah I don't get the people who moan about his so called 'whining'. In some ways, I've had a similar experience he has where fathers are concerned, so I thought his reaction was really realistic and relatable.

She liked him as he was in the War Room concept. His actually appearance is completely different.

LOL I do that. I think it comes from blogging. I have this blog that basically no one reads, where I posit questions and then answer them
