I really don't want to get involved in this conversation, but...

The devs have warned that this time the characters are not conventionally attractive. Attractiveness is also subjective. And I personally have seen no characters, out of the very few we have proper, high-quality screenshots of, that are unattractive. They might not be to your personal aesthetic or sexual taste, but I can't say anyone has, to use a gross term, 'been beaten with an ugly stick'.

Vivienne, to me, is gorgeous. As is Cass and Varric. Sola seems to have a softer jawline than what I'm personally attracted to-- I like me some strong features, I suppose, but I wouldn't call him unattractive. We haven't really seen a proper screenshot of him, though. There were the shots from that magazine, but they weren't as high-quality as what Bioware has been giving us.

Iron Bull also has a very lovely, um... back? I mean the only facial shot we've seen of him is concept art, so I don't think that counts, either.

To be honest, it sounds more like they're letting the characters and the personalities and the characters' histories 'choose' their appearances, and there's something I love about this as a designer. Sure, they might not be conventionally pretty. And sure, that might displease the fans, but by God I love when a character's design tells a story as much as their words. Let them be 'unpretty' if it gives me a visual story!

I'm in the minority concerning that, though. Which is fine, but I needed to have my gushy designer moment!

I'm quoting this not only because I agree completely, but because I think it needs said again. :D I can't possibly decide how I feel about a character until I get to talk to them, learn about them, in their own voice, and see how they react to things.  :D

NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Does anyone else think that Cullen was attracted to Meredith? At least, at the beginning when he was all RAWR MAGES BAD. It's my headcanon that Cullen is attracted to powerful women (and maybe men?). I have nothing to back me up besides just my own thoughts, though.

No. At least, not openly.

No, don't tempt Meredith away from Orsino. Meresino for ever!

If there was ever a consensual love affair between any Knight-Commander/First Enchanter pairs in Thedas, it's definitely between Greagoir and Irving. Meredith and Orsino just hate each other.

Personally, I didn't see Meredith as a rapist or someone that even looked for sexual or romantic relations. She was very much 'married' to the job and her firm belief that what she was doing was for the greater good/to protect people. At least before she went psycho bonkers crazy.

Might not agree with her, but love that woman as a character.  :wizard:

That was my point before I edited it. She has no interest in sex.

Yeah, if Vivienne and Cassandra are "not conventionally attractive" I'm not super worried about our gaunt-faced knight with his big ears and dark circles.

Oh, no, I quite agree. I doubt Cullen would have come forward with such an attraction. (Against regulations, perhaps? Is fraternization forbidden amongst the Templars themselves? Perhaps just those of differing rank?) I just think he was attracted to her, at some point, before Meredith hopped aboard the Red Lyrium bus.

Where did they state such things about the Warden? I must've missed.

I would be interested to hear this too, because that bit about the editor feeling embarassed for "making googly eyes" at a character based on someone's granddad was one of my favorite parts of (IIRC) R2's Case for Cullen roundup...

Well, I'm certainly not about to tear down anyone's headcanons and idle wonders! I personally don't think he was attracted, however, especially not so soon after what had happened in Ferelden. While he does seem to like confident women, or at least that's implied, as he can comment on the female mage's confidence... I think it was closer to a professional relationship, perhaps with Cullen hoping to find strength in Meredith's conviction. Meredith is a very strong personality, after all, and considering what Cullen had been through at the tower, he might have looked to her as a person he could siphon conviction and strength from in his moments of doubt or weakness.

That's very true, I like that idea a lot. It could explain why he overlooked how terrible things were for so long. (Meredith doesn't see a problem with it, is it just me, am I becoming like I was before, am I weak (again)?)

Well, headcanons are headcanons for a reason.

Nah, I think it was around noon time EST, cause I remember talking about it before I went to class on Monday. But they can easily do it any time so...who knows?

I don't think they would be. I mean, we didn't learn who was romanceable in DA2 until at least we were damn near launch, if I recall correctly.

True. I'm just trying to think about when such an announcement could be made, and these things seem like the appropriate medium. Also, it would help build tension and excitement about each month. If such an announcement were made, I'd guess it was on the last possible day, though.

I don't think they stated there'll be one big update on Friday.
To clarify, the Follower Friday is the day when they annoi ne the companion to be featured (which was last Friday). This Friday isn't supposed to be more special than Monday or Friday, as far as I know.

Well, some folks may find themselves attracted to Iron Bull or Solas, but the fact remains that the women so far are beautiful by most societal standards but the men are not. It is very obvious to me that straight men designed these characters. We had that little blog post from Cassandra's designer about how he wanted her personality to shine through and for her to not just be pretty... lo and behold, she's f***ing gorgeous.

As for the three LI of each gender, I definitely do not want that because that means there'll be a 33.3% chance that Cullen will be straight, and then I might just completely lose it.
