Anyway, let's not turn this one into a debate about sexism/feminism/shallowness/etc. More recently there have been some complaints on Tumblr etc about our little thread.

 

Haterz gonna hate, yo. 

 

But, back to funtiemz!

 

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Cullen in an NPC position. Someone earlier in the threat said that Cullen needs to be his own person, and I rather agree with that. I don't think he'd progress as a character as much if he were following our Inquisitor around, as opposed to ordering our military force about the Skyhold (let the Sky fall~ let it crumble~). Not to say I would say no to Cullen trekking through the wilderness, however.

The gist of it basically is that a few people don't like the recent bitching about the way some of the new companions look. Now, granted everyone is entitled to their own opinions and if you don't find them attractive then that's absolutely fine, but I'm definitely in agreement that it gets a bit too close to the knuckle at times. As Xili pointed out the other day in regards to Solas' physical appearance (as an example), if it was people insulting Cass then it would be considered sexist and wrong.

 

I just think we need to reign it in a little bit, I don't like the idea that others are avoiding this thread due to negativity.

That's actually a very good point. I mean, on the one hand I'd love to drag Cullen around Thedas with my Inquisitor just to get his perspective on things etc, but on the other hand he's spent his life following the Orders of other people, so perhaps what he needs to grow as a person/character is to do his own thing.

 

Of course, that also serves as a downside for people like us who wanted him as a companion/LI, but looking at it from the OP's point of view I can see why he wouldn't be.

We're watched closer than most because we pick up the info before most of the other threads, certainly. But some of the complaints are from former Cullen thread regulars, which is sad.

...Speaking of looks, you know what I'm excited for? The fact that stubble, shaved heads and beards are going to look GREAT in the CC. I mean if they're going to have companions with these features it must mean they'll be working on making these features look great. Which will selfishly work out for my planned male human rogue. His is the only look I have done. 

 

I'm hoping for shaved + braid like that one elf in the concept art for female qunquisitor.

I imagine it's the language they're complaining about rather than the opinion? Reading "I'm not personally attracted to that kind of thing" is very different to reading "GROSS NO HAIR THESE CHARACTERS SUCK."

If I'm not able to give my Qunquisitor a shaved mohawk, I will be super disappointed   From the concept art of female Qunari, I'm not super worried, they look so badass

Some of the anti-looks comments have made me uncomfortable. I don't really see it as having a differing opinion, because some things that have been said have been distinctly Mean Girls vibed. It's not exactly about finding anyone displeasing to the eye, it's how it's said. But some people think it okay because it's just a video game character, they'll usually say they wouldn't be like that in real life.

 

However, I see tons of comments about a video game character having the ability to make someone fluttery in the tummy, or not being able to say something mean to characters because then one will feel bad. If one can feel that about a so-called video game character, then I can see how people would be displeased if you're insulting them, especially the more rude/vicious comments.

 

Hasn't stopped me from coming around though, because it's -alot- worse in other threads. But, us being the Cullen thread, I guess we'll get more negative attention about it or something?

Miiiiiiight have a new plan for my gal qunari now if it's an option. Especially if it's one of those loose/floppy mohawks and not the standing-on-end mohawk! I think those can look great on girls.

If we can't have a shaved mohawk when so many of the concept arts showed it off, I'll be a sad panda, myself.

 

I would of given a like for this. But strangely, the option to like was just... gone entirely for me.

True.. altho I never said they suck just because they are bald or shaved or whatever... I guess its just.. different  from what im used to in DA games as far as companions go, I suppose I was a lil bit harsh and mean about judging Viv and Solas  just based on their appearance, when  they could have a lot more to give.

 

Now back to the happy parts/moods  Im excited about the environments  also looking forward to see if mustache guy is in  (if Cullen is not)   and i kinda DO want to steal Viv's  golden outfits... I really like the detail in those and looking forward for some better screenshots of Solas and a more in-depth description of him to see what his all about

I have this on-again-off again fic I'm working on where my Vashoth gets dressed by Vivienne in Orlesian attire (Cullen does, too), and Vivienne hangs little birdcages off her horns.  They gotta be big enough for that, right?
