Perhaps. He could very well be what was once the "Mustache" guy, although they could easily change his appearance and character. Maybe an Arcane warrior? Since he had that weird spear/staff thing as well as a sword.

In spite of my initial shock reaction, I'm not ready to call third mage just yet. Based on the phrasing it could just as easily be Solas.

That's what I was thinking, why I was always saying that mustachio was a mage rather than a rogue. If my theory is right, and IB is aslo a rogue then we have one spot open for Cullen in the warrior class, and we have 3 for each class! This is of course me thinking that Cole isn't a companion though, so yea that part throws me off.

The mage in the story refers to either a female Surana or Amell mage who wasn't recruited by Duncan, because he was off in the Dalish Elf origin at the time. I'd always wondered what happened to that mage, because Jowen's story was constant no matter the origin, so theirs must be as well (at least for the beginning). This is my personal headcanon!  

 

 

On the idea of a third mage:

 

I'd love to run around with a full mage party. In fact, if this is possible, it will likely be how my first run goes. I've come to like the idea of Major-NPC!Cullen more and more, so if he isn't a companion I'm not going to be all that distressed. (Unless he's someone we stumble across halfway through a mission and don't spend much time with him before we never speak to him again. Though I think this is a very unlikely worst-case-scenario.) It'd be neat to see if it's possible for an NPC Romance to be done that's on par (writing-wise) as a companion one.

 

Especially if the third mage is Dorian. He's got a sword and a trident! That's a type of polearm, do you think he'd teach me?

I was thinking about Iron Bull's description in that Xbox magazine, about him having one eye and being scared of nothing except his past and suddenly I felt super protective of him. No stupid Qun laws is gonna take my new bro away from me! Mine Bull mine!

Honestly im not a big fan of mustaches either but so far his the most good looking guy Ive seen ( judging by the concept arts)  so if his in and Cullen is not I'd be willing to overlook him mustache lol

I'm the same way, I already love him so much just from concept art and fanart alone  I love those big, tough guy characters that you just want to hold and protect and baby.
