Every time I get a payslip, I wonder why DAI isn't available for preorder yet.
I hear ya. There aren't many places I'd beg to take my money, but Bioware is one of them.

RE: Fanfic, it's just a matter of finding a good author. The "genre" (if you will) is saturated nowadays, and sometimes even if you DO find a brilliant author, they don't quite portray the characters how YOU see them (for me, that would be my experience with "Coffee, Black."). Sometimes you encounter a fandom that never seems to portray your favorite characters or pairings the way you see them. I'm kind of like that with Dragon Age, as I've yet to find a great fanfic that portrays Hawke and Fenris the way I see them (sooo many people like sexually aggressive Fenris and puppy dog innocent Hawke, it bewilders me). Those aren't OOC; they are just interpretations of the characters that just aren't to my taste.
I also have trouble finding fanfic that's interested in developing characters and relationships and NOT spending an entire chapter on an extended sex scene. I'm just done with sex scenes, honestly. I've read so many and written even more of them. Seriously, I know what sex is like. I don't need to read about it LOL
Fanfiction is all about wanting to explore beyond what the original creators have given us. I can't imagine being content just with what I see and hear. My imagination is too busy, wondering what would have happened if that character had never existed, or if the characters had lived here instead of there. Just the mind of a storyteller and a wonderer, I guess ![]()

I wish they had a firm release date for DA: I, then I could request a week off of work just to play it.

You know, there's something I just learned that no one ever talks about with Flemeth: she claims to have had a mother in one line, early in DAO, if you say that she's very old and powerful.

Exploring characters is one thing, turning a character who, in canon, can't even ask someone out on a date without going red in the face, becoming flustered and yelling because his voice raises when he's nervous into a sexually aggressive perverted jerk who makes off-colour comments on the fly is another thing. It's OOC behaviour like that which irks me and makes me back out of reading fanfiction so damn hard. Sadly it's that kind of thing that's often done to the characters I personally prefer, because their 'tough guy' image makes people mash them into unsuitable tropes so they can use them for their big mean dominants oh noes. orz
It goes the other way too, mind. Like stripping all strength a character has to turn them into a weepy little submissive that a big strong man has to come and save.
I guess I've come across too many fanfic that ruin the characters just so the author can fetishize one dimensional tropes. And the height rule. All my face palms towards the height rule.

I mostly read the smut. ![]()
But I thoroughly enjoy a good slow burner. Of which there are way too few of.
AU stories can be fun, too. What If scenarios and such.
Once found a very good and trippy Sherlock Holmes Goes to Silent Hill story, for example.

Oh Yeah, I remember it. It's true that everytime I discussed Flemeth's identity I always forgot about itYou know, there's something I just learned that no one ever talks about with Flemeth: she claims to have had a mother in one line, early in DAO, if you say that she's very old and powerful.
I would say it's possibly that her backstory (the one both Morrigan and Leliana told, with her being related in same way to Conobar and the poet) could be true. The problem if she was something else already (OGB?) or what she put inside her.

Indeed. I don't know if they'll resolve it in DAI though.

She does mention to Hawke that perhaps she is a dragon, when asked.

So, one thing I've been wondering... how do you write fanfiction? I've never been able to, because I feel almost physically repulsed at the idea of breaking canon.
Well, the way I look at it, there's a huge canvas within the DA world that's never defined. You're constrained by game mechanics and the plot line. But you never see, for example, what Hawke's kitchen looks like. She must have one, after all. You never see the privy, and there isn't one anywhere in the in-game mansion floor plan. But that doesn't mean she doesn't bathe. You never see how healing magic really works or feels like or sounds like. You have no idea what Hawke was really doing on a daily basis in the three-year hiatuses, or how Fenris and Isabela first hooked up.
So for me, fanfic is about expanding my enjoyment of the world. I finally picked up my keyboard to start writing when someone said to me (Bekkael, actually, on the old Cullen thread) that when you have a scenario in your head that you wonder about, and you can't find it in the game or written by someone else, then go write it yourself. And, so I write for myself, because I enjoy it. Others may not like my characterizations, but then they don't have to read them. But also, I do love it when they read what I've written, because then I get to share my enjoyment. Like a big ole love letter to the DA world.
So there's my take on fanfic. I never in a billion years would have considered writing it before that moment for me with DA2 (thanks, Bekkael!), but I'm sure glad I did because it has enriched my life.

She can't be a real dragon, since Gaider stated that dragons aren't sentient. They're just smart animals.

Might I offer up Cullen with James Franco hair to soothe the pain caused by buzz cut Cullen?
I'm just so curious to see what Frostbite 3 does to his hair! I love his look in DA:O and DA2, just having fun
Pleeease keep doing these! What would Cullen look like with Fabio hair...?

Yeah I like that theory the best. Dragons are dragons. Then there are gods that can take the form of dragons. They are however not the same thing.
Gosh I hope Flemeth is a special snowflake. Especially after that statement by Morrigan at the end of Witchhunt.

Well, I don't believe archdemons are really dragons. In my opinion, they're something else, able to shapeshift into dragons, that someone imprisoned in the Deep Roads and in the dragon form.

And that's really my point. Even Alistair will admit he doesn't know if the archdemon is a dragon. The thing is, both Flemeth and the archdemon can shapeshift into dragon form, which I'm led to believe is an extremely high-level shapeshifting ability. We also know that Flemeth is many centuries old and if she was ever human, the last time was probably when the story of Connobar and the bard/poet takes place. I guess the real question, then, is: was Flemeth ever human to begin with? But I agree, she's not a dragon.
