Maybe they're like those kind of friends. Jowan is friend with both of them, but they each hate the other, so Jowan spends some days with Amell and some days with Surana. Whoever gets Harrowed first, wins the trip to the basement with Jowan and Lily!

Both seems very close with Jowen, you know? I figured if they both existed and one of them died, Jowan would be pretty crushed. I dunno, I think I'm severely over-thinking it. (It's just all the others exist despite you not playing them so they both have to exist in some fashion and baaaaaaaaaaaah)

Oh, that's definitely my assumption. Either they helped Jowan out and got thrown into Aeonar because of it, or they were working for Irving and got off lightly, if they don't become a Warden, they died. Horribly.

 

(I'm actually quite happy with my headcanon that Amell and Surana were, like, worst enemies, and Jowan had to schedule his time between the two of them to prevent a fight breaking out. Whoever you chose to play got their Harrowing first, so Jowan went to them for help. Jowan doesn't mention the other to you because you hate them with a fiery passion. Yes, yes, this is good.)

I headcanon it that he asked both for  help but only one would do it. And then they both died in the uprising, only the demons  used female mage to torture Cullen before they killed her. Probably in front of him.

I'd say a likely scenario is that one helped Jowan, but of course everything went pear shaped and without Duncan there to recruit them, they would probably have been sent to Aeonar and one died during the Tower incident.

 

Dying during the Harrowing while possible, would mean that Cullen would have had to be the one that made the killing blow, and that boy doesn't need anything else to feel guilty about lol

Late to the party on the discussion about the origins, but what happens to the youngest Cousland is kind of up in the air. The codex states that it's presumed all are killed in Howe's massacre. You're not really told what happens to the city elf, but the presumptions made above are likely, in my opinion. We've already seen that Brosca is dead as is Aeducan. As for Amell/Surana, if they didn't help Jowan, they most likely ended up as victims of Uldred's insanity. And the Dalish elf would've been overcome by the taint with no Duncan to rescue him/her.

 

As for Cullen's virginity, the way he's been portrayed, I think he probably still is a virgin. However, I don't think he's as naïve about things as Alistair was.
