I also find his personality traits refreshing,the majority of characters in video games/literature and media tend to be charismatic with a witty sense of humour,it was nice for a change to see someone who is a timid,awkward and soft spoken character but with unquestionable will power,(despite the stereotype which often presents people with such traits as weak-willed).

That's a good way to put it! I too find him more introverted and thoughtful, but with such character and fortitude, both physical and mental, despite the trials and tribulations that he has faced.

I think this is why I like Cullen so much. By the time Act 3 rolls around, he's found himself again and is willing to stand by his morals.

If Cullen really still is a virgin, then I hope that he chose not to do it because of work/beliefs/etc and not because he was too shy to talk to a female/male. Templars don't have to take a vow of chastity, so I can see him having sexual relations and why not? He is human after all.

 

In the end it doesn't really matter to me, I just want to know more about him in general. Where was he born? Who were his parents? Does he have siblings? Why did he join the order?

I adore that scene when we encounter him for the first time in DA2, simply because when you see that scene for the very first time your instant reaction is like "wtf?! Leave that man alone, you massive jerk!" Cullen comes off as a real arsehole that can clearly handle himself in a fight like a big manly man, but then suddenly Wilmod transforms and you see another side to Cullen, he looks genuinely terrified and shocked. Then you see a third side to him after they kill Wilmod and we see that Cullen was actually the good guy in that particular situation and witness his professional side, even finding out that he put his own life in danger to confront Wilmod to protect his recruits. Then you see a 4th side where his professionalism slips a little whilst talking about the "young ladies" of the Blooming Rose, and you realise that although he's a very capable and skilled warrior, he's still got that flustered boyish and completely unintentional charm to him.

 

I think the fact that every now and then his professionalism slips is what makes him seem more... real? He's heavily flawed, and sometimes completely infuriating, but those brief moments kinda shows that beneath it all he's just as confused and caught up in the drama as Hawke 'n' co and is winging it like the rest of them.

But a 'meaningful experience virgin'? Yep. I always imagine he goes a little nutty after DAO and visits a brothel or something while drunk - trying to block out his experiences. Then feels ashamed and guilty and never does it again.

Plus, he strikes me as the kind of man that wouldn't want to be a burden on another person, with all his head mess and the brainwashing he's had in the Order he's probably actively tried to avoid physical and romantic relationships, hell it's not like Templars have that much time to see their partners, anyway.

 

Interestingly, he says in DA2 if your Warden was an Amell (and this counts for Surana too) that he "never met her like again", which sounds like he goes for a certain type of person, someone that is skilled/impressive in ways beyond just physical appearance. So I don't think he'd be content to settle for a normal little house wife.

 

Perhaps he's just never met the right type person (since Amell/Surana, if you played as her, or at all, if not).

You know the part about Amell/Surana, I hope that isn't true because that could be bad news for our Inquisitor, heh. It seems romantic that he is still hung up on her, but isn't it time to move on? They never really had anything, other than Cullen's crush on her and I certainly wouldn't want him to sulk about her if he is a LI/companion while my Inquisitor is humping his leg.
