True. Sad... but true. It's pretty sketchy whether or not we can even participate in general discussion threads like "What is your dream party of companions" without drawing fire for mentioning Cullen's name. I have noticed less response to seeing him mentioned, but sometimes it still devolves into fan bashing of the first degree.

 

Just yesterday (or perhaps the day before) someone was complaining in one of the companion speculation threads (a thread devoted to speculating who the remaining companions would be) that too many people were flooding the thread talking about Cullen.

 

It really irritated me because it was A COMPANION SPECULATION THREAD. Where the hell else are fans "allowed" to DARE mention Cullen's name if not there?!

Exactly. We have said this again and again and still others prefer to believe that we're somehow overdoing it. Like it's fine for all the Isabela mentions or Varric gushing or Teagan piners but Maker forbid a Cullenite stand up and say "I'd like to have so-&-so and so-&-so and Cullen with me for my first playufigglegibblerdishmananlleaaaa!" *sits up* "OH NO! SHE DID *NOT* JUST SAY THAT NAME!" RAAAAAGGGE!!!!"

What's even weirder...I've rarely seen a Cullen fan mentioning him in the main forums,It usually just people who suggest him as a possibility...If some of us participate is mainly because taking part in a conversation is natural,esp when it concerns a character you like from a game you like...

Good thing I'm immune to internet trolling and bashing of any kind. Seriously, bash harder fuckers. Those Cullen haters can feel free to come at me. I'll keep loving him and enjoy drinking their bitter tears when we get him as a companion, Maker willing.

I don't actually remember why I first came in here. I know that the Alistair and Anders threads were dying however. I do remember the discussion when I first came here. It was about ways to remove Loghain from the throne and Meanie suggested laxatives (a lot of them) and I said that would put him on a different sort of throne.

 

I don't see them shutting down this thread and for that I'm glad. I'm sure there will be a Cullen thread in the Inquisition forum, but, at least at first, there will probably be flamers and trolls in there. It's just a fact of internet life since the old usenet days. *sigh*

Yeah, I'd participated in that thread. Normally I ignore people who take a prod at us, but this time it felt really egregious. Like, we're talking about possible companions. In a possible companion thread. Cullen is one of those possibilities. If a dialogue occurs about that character, it's to be expected in that space. This is the internet, you don't have to wait for someone to finish a conversation before starting a new one. Just... bring up another character!

I think I recall DG saying something... or posting something about how the hate we get is essentially a form of misogyny because how DARE women have preferences in video game developments and such? I don't even know where to find it, but I remember it.

Um... but that's EXACTLY what we keep saying! It's like they choose to not see our numerous thoughtful posts explaining just such reasons for wanting Cullen to be included. They're intent on believing we are vapid fangirls who only want his embargo and they are the gatekeepers of Making-Sure-DA:I-Doesn't-Suck-Because-The-Devs-Pandered-To-The-Fangirls.

I don't know what they're referring to. There have been way more threads complaining about fans asking for Cullen than there have ever been threads asking for Cullen...and the threads asking for Cullen are generally the same sort of wistful "wouldn't it be nice if...?" discussions that come up about every other sort of thing that people talk about here in absence of real game info.

Quite frankly, if there ever was a group of fans who I (or anyone else on the DA team) would include something just to make them happy, I think we'd lean more towards the "polite but enthusiastic" than not. Just saying."

I can honestly say, I don't venture outside of this thread much anymore anyways. There's no point. When I have or want new info I come here. When I want to discuss something, even not 'Cullen' related, I can still come here. There's no bashing over the head of what I am questioning or thinking is wrong. Also, we have some of the most talented ppl I've ever met here. So it keeps me coming back here as well.

 

I think these reasons are probably some of the main ones why devs tend to browse through this thread.

Totally agree.  That's how I ended up here in the first place.
