Iron Bull sounds like he'll be a less disgusting version of Black Whirlwind. I loved that big oaf! Not romantically!
Jade Empire was a game where almost everyone had 2 identities. Black Whirlwind was more or less what you see is what you get, but given his hidden depth and the similarities it seems IB shares with him, I wonder what complexities Iron Bull will have underneath the party animal.
That's my theory, too! I bet IB was supposed to be the next Arishok, or he murdered someone important or something.
****, just a thought. Sten is the current Arishok, right? Admittedly I don't know too much about the Qunari's hierarchy, so I don't know if they have several different Arishok's in different areas, or just the one, but what if we have either kill IB or kill Sten? I mean, Sten follows the rules on the Qun heavily and IB has obviously done something pretty bad to be scared of his past. What if Sten wants to have IB killed for whatever reason (if that's even the case)?
... I don't think I could bring myself to kill either of them.

At the moment (if Cullen isn't a companion), my party will mostly consist of Iron Bull, Varric and Sera (if she's as described).
From what we've seen and heard so far, I bet the banter with that group is going to be a riot.
I've no idea yet, really, beyond knowing I'll be taking Varric along most of the time regardless. I really should work on preparing myself for the possibility that we won't have Cullen, because so far the thing I've been looking forward to as far as banter is concerned is the ribbing I can imagine Varric would inflict upon Cullen. ![]()

I think there's only one Arishok in the Qun at a time. The one we met in DA2 said the Qunari were governed by the Triumvirate which was comprised of the Ariqun, the Arigena and the Arishok. And Sten would no longer be "Sten". I mean, he'd be the man we knew from DAO but Sten was his title, or whatever. If I find IB too likable, choosing between him and our old Qunari companion will be soooo hard! I'm just gonna have to tell Sten to get off his high horse and remind him of the family he slaughtered and the honor he lost and only regained with the help of a Bas.
Iron Bull sounds sooo much like Black Whirlwind though! BW was scared of his past too. And had done some awful things. Granted none of his deeds brought his entire people down on his head... ![]()

Yeah, I'd rather know sooner rather than later about Cullen inclusion.

It's gonna be weird not calling him Sten, lol.
Yeah, IB and BW sound very similar. BW was my favourite, he was such a lovable idiot despite all the drinking and fighting... I liked teaming him up with Henpecked Hou, especially in battle with the flying bottles of alcohol!

I don't think there's more than one of each of the Triumvirate. There may be another from wherever the Qunari came from, but for Thedas, I'm assuming there's only one Arishok, one Arigena and one Ariqun.
And while I don't think these character will have that much of a connection to each other, given the option, my pro-Qun elf would side with the lovable huggable Stenishok.

Oh that was such a hoot! I think I remember some of BW's battle cries going like this: "Save some for me!" "I'm too sober! Hou! Another bottle!" or something like that. Dawnstar was funny around him. She didn't know what to make of his humor. Nor did Silk Fox. Of course, don't let them hear you compare them! lol! BW was so much fun!
Edit: Well, I have to be fit ti drive in about 6 & 1/2 hours and I haven't been to bed.

Wow they can be fined? I guess that makes sense otherwise why would some wait. I always wondered if people who work there got to take it home the day before-like if you worked at a bookstore. I'm pretty sure gamestop gets them the day before and they absolutely don't get to.
Sometimes as much as 1000 dollars! This is for books though. But I'm sure fines applied to other types of media, too. And as for checking things out, yes, we actually could check out books! I don't see a gaming store letting employees check out games though LOL Well, for one thing games are pre-packaged with the safety seal and everything. But they're just too expensive.
Regarding IB and Solas; I'm thinking my party will consist of Sera, Grey Warden, and IB, sub IB for Cullen if he's around (which I don't think he will be).
But who knows, all that may change once we start the game and actually meet these guys!

So..I found this while I was looking through the main forums...If it's true, then IB is quite the charmer and Solas seems to be as adorable as he looks!(Though It's from a german magazine,so I'd still take this info with a grain of salt)...
Has anyone tweeted at the Devs to ask them if Iron Bull and Sera are companions? I mean, they've been pretty quick to deny things that were falsely printed, and if the magazines are right and they are companions, then there's no reason to be tight-lipped. And if they are tight-lipped, well. That's something else, isn't it?
Someone should do this. Not me, though. Someone else. Yes.
(I only ask this because my theory is we're getting a 3/3/3 split party, and if Iron Bull is in, then Cullen (or the Bearded Warden) are out. We've seen one of them in-party already. It was not Cullen.) (Unless the Iron Bull is a rogue, in which case Cole is out. Poor Cole. Please be a rogue.)

Pretty sure this has already been asked by someone to the devs (I def remember ML getting a tweet about Sera) but at this point they're not saying anything about non-confirmed companions, whether the magazines are right or wrong in this case.

This! This! This! I keep wondering that myself. We've seen stuff about IB and Sera and some Grey Warden guy but are they companions or just characters? Same with many others. I think it seems odd that we've seen quite a few faces but I can't find offical confirmation and even then not reliably so) of companion status of anyone but Varric, Vivienne and Solas - with Viv being concrete. So it makes me wonder. Like maybe Cass is an NPC still but has a larger role this time? Same could go for Varric. The only companion they've REALLY talked about is Viv. Maybe I'm just being wishful...? ![]()

Vivienne, IB, and Sera (if as described). That'd be a hoot!
I bet they'd have some interesting party banter.
I feel like I can't take Cassandra anywhere without Varric, he'd tease her often and it'd be HILARIOUS.

Oooooo!! Whose is this? Cos I would like to use it for a userpic but don't wanna peeve the creator if they'd rather I asked first.
Edit: Random thought... What if some of our companions in DA:I are class specific? Like in DA2 with Bethany and Carver. Maybe, we've only seen Cass in screenshots because the devs are playing as non-mage rogues and warriors? What if being a mage - or some other factor you pick for your inquisitor - will decide if it's Cass who is available as a companion versus, say, Cullen...? I just... wondered.
Another random thought. Sandal and his 'Boom' rocks. Do you suppose it's the same formula as what Anders made? I mean there were drakes in the Deep Roads so Drakestone should have been there and plenty of Darkspawn who don't care where they defecate would mean sela petrae would be in supply down there too. The rest of the ingredients could be pretty mundane...
Another random thought: Has anyone else wondered if Alistair's rose is the same rose that Leliana saw blooming in the Chantry in Lothering and took to be a sign from the Maker? Kind of poetic that it wound up being given to the Warden (if female).
Another thunk I had is about red lyrium. We don't really know what lyrium is other than that it's a mineral deposit that can be mined and seems to have properties that allow a mage who consumes it greater access to the Fade and Templars the ability to affect magic. So... is regular lyrium like a mineral that can store energy from the Fade where the Veil is thin? Hence why it seems most abundant where demons roam. So what if red lyrium is a mineralized form of death? Like how too much death in one area seems to make the Veil thin. Maybe the disruption to the Veil causes a dissonance in the energy of the Fade and that is stored as well? And maybe that dissonant energy attracts demons? Maybe chaotic energy is pleasurable to them and thus the templars who consume it? Like, they feel it spill back through the lyrium?
My theory goes: Red lyrium allows one greater access to the Fade, like regular lyrium, but the "connection" or whatever isn't stable and the energy drawn is unpredictable. So it's a danger to templars and mages alike. In my fic, I also have that red lyrium being used on tranquil mages temporarily brings them back to themselves whereas regular lyrium cannot. Also tranquil mages are stuck wandering the fade, unable to move on since they aren't "dead" and the strain causes their spirit to twist and become angry apparitions of the Fade. In order to allow them to move on, using red lyrium to restore them so that death, when administered, and final rites will set them free. Mages left tranquil for the rest of their bodies' lives eventually go mad and the lack of death rites is a huuuge offense to most Andrastians so...
I dunno. I'm just... thinking because I'm writing. I have an idea for red lyrium that's important to the fic but I'm still fleshing out details.
Aww shoot... Time for me to drive.
See ya later!

Personally, I doubt they'd have a class specific companion again. And it wouldn't take out one warrior for another warrior. And I really don't think Cassandra will be the one taken out since I think she's this game's poster girl.

But above all, the reason I dislike the concept of class specific companions, (and why I don't think DAI will have it), is because it takes away the player agency. I wouldn't be opposed to a Virmire where the player CAN decide and will directly affect the fate of two companions, especially if it's not just limited to one set, like say Cassandra or Cullen. Because the two companions they choose to be sacrificed may well have really interesting dynamic between them. Obviously, it would be a much less powerful decision with the metaknowledge, and people would just use this as a way of disposing of their least favourite character, but the first time, players will probably choose some of their favourites.
