So here's my latest fear:

The raunchy dialogue. I now fear that this could be a one off thing, similar to sleeping with a prostitute or one of the Dalish elves in DA:O. Like maybe they throw in that you can flirt and sleep with Cullen as a kind of joke to his DA:O fans. But it's not a serious romance, nothing like Traynor or Cortez.

That would pretty much amount to saying that getting up to 'naughty stuff' with him is the only reason we champion him and that would be, so, so wrong. I can't see them doing that, would they?

Um, have you MET David Gaider?? lol

LOL! Indeed. :D He revels in making us cry. Even his fellow staff! Poor Jessica...  He teased her in front of a room full of fans at a convention during a talk about romances and joked about Alistair never loving her. ;)

Wait. WHAT?

I have been out of the Mass Effect loop for too long! WHAT.

In the Citadel DLC, if you are female, aren't in a romance with anyone and you approach Vega about all his flirting, you can sleep w/ him (it's awful, you pretty much have to strong arm the guy into agreeing to it since he's too intimidated by Femshep to pursue it) You wake up the next morning w/ him and he says he doesn't want it to get around and it is never mentioned again.

Urk, that Vega "romance" added in Citadel makes me feel disgusted.

Yeah. Shep came on too aggressively, and it was basically a... "Okay... but only if I'm really drunk!" thing. It was cringe worthy.

Really? I never knew that (never played as Fem.Shep)... hmmm, let's see if there is something to find on YT

Yeah. It was... painful, but I'm so glad it was there. And it was in the base game, as Citadel wasn't even out when I played ME3.

It's still very nice news. They allowed him to tell us, now we are 100% sure he is in the game, we are just not ENTIRELY sure to what capacity, why, when, how, and to what extent. So far I am really enjoying the ride.

And he also appears to have a big part as well according to a tweet GE made just a few hours before(I think...)So yeah,It's definitely a pleasant ride so far! :D

Oh. Wow. Um.

I feel badly for all the people who actually wanted to romance Vega. Like, super-bad. OUCH.

I'm just really glad to hear that Cullen will be around a lot in the game, no matter the capacity of companion or just npc. I wonder what he'll even look like at this point lol

I suppose... It just sounds off, somehow. Maybe it's just me?

I would agree that it's not consistent with how DG has talked about Cullen's inclusion (or about the fans) in the past. But who knows what a non-party romance would look like the first time round in DA. If they go there, it's an experiment. DG has gone on the record saying he doesn't really think non-party romances work well. We may want to be prepared for anything.

But none of the devs have ever acknowledged that we love him for more than just "I wanna sex him up!" At best we got DG saying we were indeed crazy, but so was everyone. He also said we were nice.

I doubt they'd throw in some sex with him as a nod to us. That would be akin to writing a character a certain way on purpose just for the fans.. and if they wouldn't include a character, period, just for fans. Why would they write them a certain way for fans?

By the strange off chance that Cullen would be added in just to be sexed up I'd be pretty offended tbh.

A flirt, on the other hand. That I find more reasonable, since other NPCs have had flirts in the past. Including Cullen. And personally, I like the idea of that. Flirting with a matured and manly version of Cullen, versus the running away from Amell/Surana Cullen.

Sexing up is fun, but I enjoy getting to know the character more than anything.

I suppose that makes sense? I guess I just literally cannot imagine a scenario where the Dev would put out a product like that. I mean, Mass Effect had nice NPC romances with Traynor, and Steve, so it's not like they'd be completely in the dark.

Cullen: You make me want to say inappropriate things!

Inquisitor: Ooooh, go on! Talk dirty to me!

Cullen: Undies!

Inquisitor: ...

Cullen: Oh, right, dirty... DIRTY UNDIES!

OMG. LOL. LIKE!

My personal theory is that the devs still aren't 100% sure what they're going to get into the game. They may have only just managed to get Greg into the booth and there may not be enough time to do *everything* so confirming Cullen's inclusion is ok since he will be in the game but assuming he'll be a companion or LI at this juncture can cause a furor that Bioware wants to avoid. Already, having the confirmation that he'll be in DA:I has ruffled some feathers as well as made a ruckus. If anything else is confirmed, it could cause even more incidents. Plus, from a marketing perspective, they lose a pretty big "Ace" because the want to know by both ends of the Cullen spectrum is something we're all waiting to have solidified. Once it is they lose some of the mystique. Maybe? I'm just pontificating here... I think the bottom line is that it doesn't matter what GE is doing/has done in the booth if the devs just can't get it to work in time. Stuff gets cut from movies and games all the time.

Sad, but true.

I think when they were of the opinion we were the pitch fork carrying / torch wielding crazy fangirl trope, they were more apt to believe it was just for the looks and the sexings. But we proved to them that the majority of us wouldn't behave that way due to headcanons getting in the way, or having a preconceived idea of how we felt they should take his character. And then they stopped treating us like rabid fan people, thus when they started saying how nice we are. I think they get we like him for more than his looks/body.

Did Gaider ever say 'no' to NPC romances completely, or just that he didn't think they worked? I know i've seen something along those lines before but for the life of me I can't remember exactly.

Heh, a quick one nighter as a nod, now that would be the very definition of 'fan servicing'

Cullen: "You have well and truly lifted my embargo, Inquisitor!"

There will be some serious Inquisition embargo meme action going on here after release.... I'm sure of it...

They'd better not! I rarely make demands of the devs but THIS I do NOT want! :(

That is true; he did say very specifically that he would never "pander" to fans. That character interactions are there to serve the story. Though I'm not sure how sleeping with Cammen or Isabela "serves the story" lol

Would "for the lols" count?

Either way, the "only there for fanservice" thing definitely isn't going to go away. Not anytime soon.
