I have seen the terms used this way in the past (Player character referring to any playable character, party member or otherwise).

I do NOT know if this is how Gaider uses it.

I ran into it from the other perspective talking with a forum goer, since I would still consider them "NPCs" but the forumite I was speaking with considered all party members to be player characters.

To me, they are just companions. I wouldn't refer to them as PCs or NPCs myself.

I don't know. I don't think he really knows what 'companion' or 'LI' really is, so even if he could say that he was one or both of those, he wouldn't understand the game mechanics enough to verify Cullen's role.

This is also my impression. That, along with DG's comment about relying on "an actor's interpretation" of the material he's acting, suggests that we just need to wait for the details from someone who knows them.

I have always thought Player Character refers to the avatar the gamer is using, i.e. Hawke and the Warden. Even though you can take control of the other members in your party during combat, I guess I don't see that as a player character. So to me they are just companions.

Indeed. GE's tweets feed the hope, but I'm sticking to my Dev confirmed stance.

Yeah it'd be way too painful for me to assume he's a companion and LI then find out he just misspoke.  :crying:

I think of them in terms of: player character (Warden, Hawke, Quizzy), companions, and NPCs.

You know, I don't think GE would deliberately troll us... but DG might. Which isn't to say that we should throw a "Cullen Joins the Inquisition" party, but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers' pit is brewing another pot of coffee with our frustrated tears.

I wasn't calling you ungrateful, I just don't want disappointment to be mistaken as such to someone coming from outside the thread.

On this thread, we learn a lot of things other people don't due to a lot of dedication and constant communication. For most DA fans, and even Cullen fans, they didn't know he was a for sure thing (in all honesty, neither did we, we just had a strong case for why we thought he would be). As for his NDA, I don't think it has been lifted, he just got the "go ahead" to say that he would be returning as Cullen. For all we know, the marketing team may have made it REALLY clear to Greg that he is only able to talk about certain things, such as Cullen being in the game to some capacity but that's it.

I was just simply expressing my thoughts, if that will be mistaken as a form of ungratefulness  then sorry, we all come to our own conclusions on  matters, and we share them with each other, weather its excitement or disappointment or doubts, thats why  this thread is considered as a family of sorts.

Yes we are a pretty dedicated thread, and I am happy that Im a part of it, and love the ppl in it, but I did however came to the conclusion as to not read too much into things, witch is probably for the best, Im not saying that im not excited cause deep down inside im still squeeing , im just trying not to get too ahead of my self (but that's just me) Im not here to say that others shouldn't feel happy about what was said, I just  have my personal concerns/"fears" until the devs confirm it

My guess -- player character is the Inquisitor, Warden, Hawke, etc. 20-30 sessions for a companion would be a lot of dialogue, wouldn't it? But then again, I feel that Origins had more companion dialogue than DA2 so I could be wrong.

I don't think there are frustrated tears, though (nor trolling from any party, for that matter). We got great news today! I think it just makes sense to be cautious with whatever hints GE may unwittingly drop. Once BW is ready to talk Cullen details, then we'll be ready. :)

Actually DG has confirmed that both games had the same amount of dialogue.

The same amount of companion dialogue? I guess I could see that being true. It just seems weird to me because I felt like I got to ask the companions so many more questions in Origins which made me think there was more dialogue for them.

DG has a really loong post somewhere where he talks about how it was just balanced differently. That in DA2 there was more in the companion quests so it seemed like less "free" conversation.

its funny tho when we heard about Steave's Valentines tweet about Alistair we all wished that Greg would do the same, and he did.. but unfortunatly its nothing that we havent known before, and also no "solid" responses on the companion/li thing...

To be fair, we weren't sure if his role would be big or small, and how we know it.

I'd take the conversations over the quests any day. I just feel like I know the Origins lot ten times better than the DA2 lot.

Same here -- at least, for most of them, I feel like I got a better image of their past and what made them who they were. Though I love both sets of companions, I don't know if I can ever forget the conversation with Alistair about licking a lamppost in winter.
