DAMN IT the thought of Cullen opening up to/falling in love with a mage inquisitor and them helping him dealing with his lyrium addiction and PTSD is everything I've ever wanted now I'm going to be super disappointed when it doesn't happen. ![]()

I've been wanting to say this for a while, because I've seen it in a number of places (and lord knows wanting my Warden or Inquisitor to kiss the tears away is part of my attraction if I'm being honest) and I don't want to sound like I'm attacking anyone in particular, but could we talk a little bit about the language of "curing his PTSD with my love/sex"? It kind of makes me uncomfortable. I guess I'm hoping maybe some of the people in the thread with more psych background than me can, I don't know, provide us with some informed commentary about (a) the extent to which people with PTSD eventually lose their symptoms, ( b. the role their loved ones play in this, and © the (courtesy? respect?) one is required to afford a fictional person in this regard? (Parts a and b are the scientist in me seeking information, Part c, I guess, translates to "am I totally walking around with a stick up my ass here"?)

I actually have PTSD and I guess I just appreciate the whole "intimate psychotherapy" trope being used on a male instead a female character for once. They pulled the same thing in ME3 with Jack. I'm all for equal opportunity.

See, BW usually give you a way, though. Sometimes it's hard to find, but when it comes to the LIs, there is usually at least one path to happiness (or semi-happiness
). Case in point, in DA2 Hawke was victorious and was able to run away with Anders. I was satisfied at the end of that. My Hawke loved him so much she would have fought to her own death to save him, but did not have to. They survived, and they left. Now, what they've done to them since is out of my control, but DA2 was a success for my own personal headcannon. In Inquisition, we will find a way even if Cullen has major issues. I was kinda sorta kidding about the tears...I hope.
And of course, this is all assuming he's an LI.
Am I the only one who doesn't want him to be addicted? At least, I don't want to have this whole addiction storyline, where we have to help him work past it, yadda yadda yadda.

They'd have to retcon an awful lot for him not to be. It's pretty much established ALL templars are hooked on the stuff. The only reason Alistair wasn't is because he was conscripted before taking his vows ( after which I assume they start giving them lyrium).
Cullen's been a templar for a long time at this point. You can bet he's well addicted already.

If you don't mind my pressing, because I know tone is hard to convey over the internet and I'm just looking to decrease my net ignorance here, is it just that turning the trope on a male makes the disrespect of the female version sting less from a feminist standpoint, or do you mean that you feel there's truth to the trope but you're just annoyed at how it's always a woman?

By the way, what's the status on imports? Still no? (I know about the Keep)
I think I'm trying to find an excuse to start another playthrough lol
Waiting for the day I watch a show or movie and a male character is brutally murdered for the sole purpose of affecting/motivating the female.

I don't mind at all! I guess it's the first one. I am a feminist and having both genders suffer equally from this trope would make it sting a bit less, at least from my perspective. I'm tired of women being the only ones objectified in video games.
