Won't people see that as racism?.. "Stick to your own race": the first thing that comes to mind reading your post.. If it is, then it has probably something to do with programming/design choices?

I... don't know. And, just to be safe, I'm not saying anything like one should "stick to their own race." I'm just thinking that for once, it might be nice for a dwarf to get to romance someone his/her height, you know? They've expanded the options for four races now... that leaves room for some interesting combinations.

yeah, it is a bit odd, and comes off as a bit odd.

I think it's more a squeamish abt... inter racial dating...omg...that sounds bad, but you know what I mean. The dwarf romances and now the qunari idea, I'm not sure the DA team is up for coping with that.

Shrugs.

ME went thru the same thing, but it was more that they didn't realize fans would want to romance Tali or Garrus. They then corrected that assumption in ME2.

Omg, David Gaider, lol. He scares me sometimes! But he also makes me laugh sometimes. I love his blog. However, i'd never want to be on the receiving end of his wrath. >.>

Thanks for pointing out new DG stuffs, Eluvianix :)

I'm not scared of David Gaider, it's more like a love/hate relationship.

I don't disagree, but if they were to do even something remotely like that, all options would have to be bisexual and I do not see them doing race restricted romances at all.

Except of course for the Knight-Captain, I'm avoiding making any judgments about potential LIs until I get the game running... I feel pretty neutral about Solas's appearance but given that computer graphics are still clawing their way out of the Uncanny Valley anyhow, personality and VA quality will probably be a way bigger deal for me.

EDIT: And actually, come to think of it, part of what I like about Cullen is that he's hardly my type physically at all--curly hair, weird noses, and facial hair are all negatives for me in real life.

but I'm not here for some bald Nicholas Cage look-alike.

Yeah, I'm not really into bald, either. I don't see the Nicholas Cage look alike bit, but I have heard many people say it. I can never get a good look at his face, though, because I'm on my iPhone, and any pictures zoomed in just don't provide a clear view of his face. I don't know why, but I associate bald with Mr. Burns from the Simpsons, and his two little spots on top of his head (gross!) even though he does have an ear crown of hair that Solas doesn't, but still. I feel ya!

Couldn't a dwarf romance both Varric and someone who wasn't a dwarf?

A lot of people thought Varric was kinda racist for not being interested in humans. I mean, I suppose it's realistic that not every character would be into every single race but idk. I feel like it should be an obstacle in a relationship but not one you can't move past.

Wasn't there something about not doing dwarven romance in DA:O due to bioware wanting to avoid fetishes? Perhaps the same is still applying and there won't be a dwarven/qunari LI for our poor inquisitor?

And those Kaidan scenes... :crying: Right in the feels...

I'm not saying they should or would ever restrict us to same race romances. I'm just saying what if they wanted to make sure there were options. So if you wanted to match with your own race, you could (for the first time as a dwarf or qunari PC).  So what if we ended up with four LIs, one elf, one human, one qunari, one dwarf...? Of course, yeah, they'd all have to be bi sexual. I dunno. Maybe it's even an argument for more than 4 this time...? Just a thought.

IF Solas is a LI, I hope he's bigger than Fenris was, and especially than the whole lot of elves in DA2. They all looked so tiny like one punch to the face would shatter their skull. Yet, they are supposed to be renowned warriors. I hope they give them a little bulk this time, not something entirely different but just add a little life to them, make them not look like they could blow away in the wind. I loved the artwork for Fenris, hot hot hot, but in game, he liked sooo skinny. I need my man to look like a man, not malnourished kind-of man. (And I heart fenris, just sayin')

But I don;t see how they could do a race specific LI thing without completely alienating the dudes. So far there are no female dwarves or fem qunari as followers. Even speculated followers.

so if you play as a male dwarf/qunari, and it's race specific, the straight guys have no one.

Which actually gives credence to the idea of npc romances.

Oh dear god, and I just want to say that in no way I'm implying you are racist. I just think this will lead to people thinking that (limiting romance options to race..)

But what you are saying is interesting: how will Bioware implement the romance aspects within their game..?

Does it mean that if you want to have a playthrough in which your romance is Solas (for example if he is a LI), you must play as an elf?

So, It's almost time to go to bed lol but before I go, I just have a question:

In about 7/8 months you will have a copy of DA:I in your hands. Have you any idea how you are going to play it:

Are you going to play it alone? Or with friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wifes etc..

Are you going to play it in one big session (like taking a week off from work/school etc..

Will you be focused mainly on the game or are you also visiting the forums and discuss/share certain events?

1. Not that I plan those things beforehand but overall I prefer to play on my own. On my first pt I just like to take my time and always end up running around hectically, retracing my steps, trying to explore EVERYTHING (can you guess I am the obsessive gamer type?). I can't imagine anyone would find watching it interesting, since it usually takes me ages to complete a game (my first run-throughs times are comparable to completionist's pts). I never missed a follower because of that :D I like to watch my bf playing though.

2. I guess the first answer indicates how it usually ends. It takes me a while to complete the game (origins took me ~3 weeks). I just really like to savor the setting and the story.

3. I like the hype so I probably will be torn between avoiding spoilers and sharing the excitement. No idea how much later I will get the game here in the UK :/I don't mind minor spoilers though, especially about companions. I would hate to have a major plot twist spoiled

This is sorta what I was getting at...

(edit: But, yeah, it would never really work... just not enough of everybody to go around. It was just something that occurred as my tired brain said, "Four races... usually four LIs... huh.")

Oh I know! I just realized after the fact that I might have seemed to be suggesting folks should be limited, and that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying what if they want to make sure that if you're a dwarf, you have a dwarf LI available, along with all the others if you so choose.

Here's what allan had to say about DLC companions.

With respect to a party member, it's more a function of "we have more time to work on the game so that party member can now fit within release schedule."

For us to have a DLC companion after the time extension would have required us spending time creating a new companion.  Basically the time extension has simply meant "free DLC for everyone that is perfectly integrated into the game!" if you want to look at it that way.

So basically if there was any DLC companion, they are now fully implemented into the game.

aaaahhh that would make sense...

So instead of romancing companions, Bioware can go for NPC romances... interesting..

I'm confused on the whole romance thing. Too many races to make them exclusive, so probably they will make everyone available for everyone again. As for npc romances, I admit that I am not excited about those, though I guess they can be very well done. On the other side I really appreciate flirty lines in npcs I find interesting so it's possible that I would like them more than I imagine now.

I just don't want a situation of having plenty of romances when it seriously limits development of the friendship path like it has happened in ME2. I was replaying both DA and ME series recently and realized that I appreciate all relationships and see them as equally important, since they allow me to explore personalities of my own characters better.
