Playing DA:O again (finally getting my Cullenmance - yeah!) and was reminded of something curious with respect to templars and their vows. Leliana and Alistair banter where he asks if she was a cloistered sister.
Leliana: "
You must have been a brother before you became a templar, no?"
Alistair: "I never actually became a templar. I was recruited into the Grey Wardens before I took my final vows."
This reminds me of the codex entry on Chantry Hierarchy which says: "Only those folk who take vows become initiates. These are men and women in training, whether in academic knowledge or the martial skills of a warrior. All initiates receive an academic education,
although only those who seek to become templars learn how to fight in addition."
I've been curious about what kind of vows they really take. This all suggests that templar vows are rather clergy-like, if they're actually becoming "brothers." So, I suppose that means all that chastity nonsense, too? Of course we know that templars need permission to marry and have formal ties, but are they forbidden even to have "relations" due to vows? All the visits to the Blooming Rose suggest otherwise... but maybe those are just pre-vow recruits.
Anyway, I've been speculating about melodramatic obstacles to overcome in a DA3 Cullenmance.

Hawke couldn't get Seb to break his vows, but maybe the new PC could have better luck.
