I was wondering if, since there are no dlc companions this time around, they left a few extra characters in so that you had a few choices as to who to recruit for spots? (I hope that makes sense). Say there are 5 warriors that are recruitable and you can choose the 3 you want? Though I would guess Cassandra and Varric would be required for the party.
I'm generally not too keen on the idea of mutually exclusive companions because I prefer not to have to do multiple playthroughs to get to use everybody. I could live with it, though, it's not a dealbreaker issue for me.
If they did go in that direction, I think they would need to provide a pretty solid reason for why the Inquisitor has to choose and can't just recruit everybody, so it didn't seem too arbitrary.
I dunno. I'd hope that mages could be escorted home for a bit. The knight going along wouldn't have to hover over the meeting but allowing the mage to go home for a dinner or something would necessitate a need to protect them and keep them from running off. Because I doubt Cullen would just let them stroll through Kirkwall. I'd suggest that families could come to the Gallows but that could problematic since there doesn't seem to be facilities for such an increase in people to mill about. If they were on a rotating roster and went home in small groups. At least until a better system of keeping tabs on them could be devised so they could live out of the Gallows. That's what *I* would want to see. Research, ftw!
This seems doable to me.
I supervise home visits for my residents sometimes and it works pretty well. Sometimes I try to be as inconspicuous as possible so as not to intrude, but often the family will include me in the conversation and it's all pretty comfortable and normal-seeming.
So for a Thedas version just send along a templar, set an extra place at the dinner table, and there you go!
Assuming the family wants to see the mage, which is another potential stumbling block unfortunately.
The Circle in Ferelden really was a different world compared to Kirkwall, wasn't it? It wasn't perfect, but it seemed it was better. Aside from not having freedom really, I wouldn't have minded living there. If mages could have families and homes once they'd passed their Harrowing, it would have seemed a compromise to me. The Circle would be more like a boarding school and allow family visits and to go home for the summer...
The Gallows just make me shudder.
Yeah, agreed. The Ferelden Circle seems like a decent place to live. The Kirkwall Circle, not so much. (Although from a templar standpoint, the architecture of the Gallows would make it a lot easier to supervise than Kinloch Hold.) I like the idea of circles becoming places where mages go to learn and demonstrate that they are capable of self-control, but that they could eventually prove they can be trusted with more freedom.
