I still look in the new thread sometimes, but mostly I just do my lurking around here and the twitter thread.  I tried posting a couple questions for discussion in the new thread but no one either noticed or weren't interested so I faded to the background like I do ;)  This thread is calmer, easier to keep up with, familiar and more comfortable. :)

For me it's not that I'm not interested, it's that the thread moves so fast that 1.) It's really easy to miss neat discussion topics, and 2.) Sometimes I feel like by the time I even see something, everyone else has already discussed it and moved on, so it can feel a little weird to jump back in with it.

We should make something like a Cullen Lore thread after DA:I release :) For discussing his biography and personality alone :)

BTW, did I post this here?

Spoiler

Funny how time changes perception. At first I thought he was just cute, but not very intelligent. Now I'm playing again, and I was just maintaining a polite conversation instead of harrassing him. And when he asked miss Amell to come and talk to him again, I thought that it's interesting how he's not afraid to look stupid. I mean, if you don't try to play as a male Amell, you will never find out that Cullen is not an idiot :) But, although he's bad at talking with her, he wants to try again later. Demons of Pride probably found him awfully boring during Broken Circle.
Ah, Kinloch Hold was so full of love: mages falling for templars, templars falling for mages, templars and mages having babies (I mean Gleam and Rhys), blood mages falling for priestesses, templars falling for desire demons :) And everyone was kissing everybody. Gallows seems to be a terribly boring and depressing place in comparison.

When is E3 again? I have ordered my tickets for Gamescom two days ago... is it August yet?

Yeah, compared to the Gallows Kinloch hold was really a hippy tower: make love, not war  Although we don't know what happens behind the walls, beside the (rumors of) abuse. Than again, it was not all rainbows and my little ponies in Kinloch Hold either.

And I guess we can happily bring up topics that are discussed in the new thread over here and discuss them on our own rate pace?

Edit for writing in bad English

In other news...

Sheryl: "My well is full of dicks." #WritersPit #nocontext

I... wonder how being in context could change the meaning of that?

I know, but every time I return there in Witch Hunt, I just feel like I'm coming back to my parents' place.
Speaking of Witch Hunt:

Spoiler

Ha, I was certain I'll never see Cullen again after I heard this. And look at him now!

Cullen is just incognito in the war room to put us of guard... Put some wax in his hair to hide his curls and arranged some standard warrior outfit

Wow, this thread is all grown up!  And now there is a new thread?  What!

Just finished watching Lady Insanity's PAX video regarding romances in DA:I.  I was so excited to hear that we've been heard!  Yes!

Also, where is that picture of Cullen from, Galagraphia?  And have you written more about your blood mage and Cullen?  I read your comic a few years back and I think your computer blew up or something and you couldn't  update.

Curly is how I nicknamed him   :D  But he doesn't look very curly on that concept art, his hair is too short.
I noticed Varric doesn't give silly names to serious people. He didn't make up anything for Hawke and Aveline, and he called Cassandra simply Seeker. He gave cute nicknames to cute girls, and with Bela it was just Rivaini, because that's all that is certain about her, I suspect. So I guess if he discovers something to tease Cullen about, he'll make a nickname based on that. What is the most funny thing about Cullen? Well, it used to be his Amell/Surana syndrome, but after he told Meredith to stand down, I'm not sure that kid is still there somewhere. So that's why I'm puzzled. No idea what Varric may identify as Cullen's most distinguishing feature. Hm, Curly may actually work.
I've asked for a reason. I have an idea for something silly, and I needed to find Varric's voice to make it work :)

I had a Dragon Age dream in which there was bantering and Varric said something like "Now, now little smiter" to Cullen because Cullen was eager to disarm Merrill when discovering her blood magic. It struck me as something Varric said because Cullen was younger than him and the newest addition to the group. I think if Varric feels he won't be beheaded for teasing, he eventually comes up with a nickname for people. He'll find something about them to make light of. Isabela is just Rivaini because she's from Rivain. So the reason behind it could be anything - from how Cullen fights, to how tall he is, to his hair, to his dependence on lyrium (although that may seem cruel...) I think if Varric feels a camaraderie with a person, he'll find a name. The name itself is less important to his personality than whether or not he feels the familiarity with a given person. Just my two cents. ^_^

When I think of Kinloch Hold now, I imagine it like high school. Everyone's kissing everyone. Every relationships is drama and small town. The big bad templars are mostly feared at the level of hall monitors instead of horrible rapey prison guards like at the Gallows.

To be honest in my first mage playthrough I got the same impression as well they looked more like a bunch of students than prisoners...The gallows on the other hand are really creepy, especially if you pay attention to the ambient dialogue and personally I try to avoid the place as much as I can.The only positive is that you get to stal...I mean talk to Cullen. :P

The Circle in Ferelden really was a different world compared to Kirkwall, wasn't it? It wasn't perfect, but it seemed it was better. Aside from not having freedom really, I wouldn't have minded living there. If mages could have families and homes once they'd passed their Harrowing, it would have seemed a compromise to me. The Circle would be more like a boarding school and allow family visits and to go home for the summer... ;) The Gallows just make me shudder.

DO wonder about the level of access mages have to the outside world. In Ferelden, you see some mages outside the Circle. In the Gallows, Leandra seemed to have a hard time even getting a letter to Bethany. I played around with the notion in a fic once that that was a change Knight Commander Cullen made after Meredith, that mages would get to see the families. But I still wonder how that really worked.

I dunno. I'd hope that mages could be escorted home for a bit. The knight going along wouldn't have to hover over the meeting but allowing the mage to go home for a dinner or something would necessitate a need to protect them and keep them from running off. Because I doubt Cullen would just let them stroll through Kirkwall. I'd suggest that families could come to the Gallows but that could problematic since there doesn't seem to be facilities for such an increase in people to mill about. If they were on a rotating roster and went home in small groups. At least until a better system of keeping tabs on them could be devised so they could live out of the Gallows. That's what *I* would want to see. Research, ftw! :wizard:

Well, my computer was having really hard times, but it didn't blow up.  Life kind of exploded though, so I couldn't draw much. Kind of had an art block. I'm resuming that comic now, drawing next two pages at the moment. Trying to tie it up with DA:I, and see what happens :)

The picture is from the concept art "War Room" from DA:I.

To be honest, I'm avoiding the forum in general until the game is released. One mistake I did with DA2 was to spend all my time here and get spoiled and knowing who your companions will be etc. I'm looking forward to being surprised, and to Cullen. The confirmation has inspired me to continue on my Cullen/Surana fanfic.

For me it's not that I'm not interested, it's that the thread moves so fast that 1.) It's really easy to miss neat discussion topics, and 2.) Sometimes I feel like by the time I even see something, everyone else has already discussed it and moved on, so it can feel a little weird to jump back in with it.

This is what I meant.  The thread goes so fast sometimes that not only is it hard to keep up with but also easy to get missed.  Sorry I wasn't more clear.  I don't think it's a bad thing that it moves quickly, that just means folks are excited and have a lot to discuss and that's a good thing.  It's just I can't keep up so I lose the thread of conversation/discussion, if that makes sense?  Sometimes I'm bad at this text stuff.

This was the question I posed and if any of you are interested you can discuss it, if not then that's okay too ;)

I was wondering if, since there are no dlc companions this time around,  they left a few extra characters in so that you had a few choices as to who to recruit for spots? (I hope that makes sense).  Say there are 5 warriors that are recruitable and you can choose the 3 you want?  Though I would guess Cassandra and Varric would be required for the party.

I'm sure this isn't going to be the case.  But it was something I was pondering a while back.

Loved your fanart you posted Galagraphia!

That's a very wise approach :) I think after I calm down a little, I'll get away from forums for a while too. I don't want spoilers, and I don't want a manual to Cullen's romance.  I want a surprise. All my favourite games were surprises. When I started Dragon Age, I only knew you could romance Morrigan :) And that everybody hates mages. How upset I was when Alistair dumped me  That was fun!

Yes, it's like we could get Loghain instead of Alistair. Hm, that would make sense. Maybe you recruit from fractions who really hate each other, and you have to pick one?

Haha yeah. I hadn't heard anything about DAO when I bought it and it really turned out to be one of my favourite games. My reaction when I first met Alistair was "Who is this idiot? I hope he's not a romance" XD. Changed my mind once I'd gotten into the story a bit.

What was funny was that my first toon was a mage, and I completely missed Cullen during the origin, so when I did the Broken Circle and he went on about how he was infatuated with your mage I was like "Huh?". That was what made me go back and speak to him in the Circle, and well, I've been a pretty avid Cullen fan since.

Haha, when I finally tried a Surana, I noticed Cullen, but I thought he was not very clever  And when there was an option to offer him snuggles, I thought, "WHAT??? With this imbecile? Who do you think I am!!!" It took me, I think, 2 Suranas and 2 Amells to really fall for this guy. By that time I found books and the first DA comic, and that comic was all about templars and mages, and it made me feel really bad for templars, although they weren't the good guys there, but it was, I think, because their problems weren't discussed much.

The pink bubble event is what really made him stand out for me. That my Surana was actually like 'Ehm... Cullen... Please shut up, my lover is standing right next to me, you know...' is something different

Oh yes, that was embarassing. I think Zevran commented on it? That you are a little heartbreaker or something. But then I thought that of all those big respectable templars only silly Cullen survived, and he grew up on me after I realized that he was the best of them.

BTW, does anyone follow Chakhabit's comic "Second Chances"? She just updated for the first time in forever, and there is Cullen in it, and my poor old heart bleeds already, because it's the Broken Circle part.

I'm generally not too keen on the idea of mutually exclusive companions because I prefer not to have to do multiple playthroughs to get to use everybody. I could live with it, though, it's not a dealbreaker issue for me.

If they did go in that direction, I think they would need to provide a pretty solid reason for why the Inquisitor has to choose and can't just recruit everybody, so it didn't seem too arbitrary.

This seems doable to me.

I supervise home visits for my residents sometimes and it works pretty well. Sometimes I try to be as inconspicuous as possible so as not to intrude, but often the family will include me in the conversation and it's all pretty comfortable and normal-seeming.

So for a Thedas version just send along a templar, set an extra place at the dinner table, and there you go!

Assuming the family wants to see the mage, which is another potential stumbling block unfortunately.

The Circle in Ferelden really was a different world compared to Kirkwall, wasn't it? It wasn't perfect, but it seemed it was better. Yeah, agreed. The Ferelden Circle seems like a decent place to live. The Kirkwall Circle, not so much. (Although from a templar standpoint, the architecture of the Gallows would make it a lot easier to supervise than Kinloch Hold.) I like the idea of circles becoming places where mages go to learn and demonstrate that they are capable of self-control, but that they could eventually prove they can be trusted with more freedom.
