We don't understand how scary magic is because the games haven't done an adequate job of showing us that. Even when the Ferelden Circle gets all abominationed... I don't know. I feel like that scene should have been as scary as Hespith in the Deep Roads was. That if we'd been forced to sit and watch dozens to hundreds of people get slaughtered by a monster maybe we'd know where the devs were coming from on this one.

Exactly! The mage/templar war is supposed to grey, yet we've only really seen the worst side of the Templars. Even with all those crazy blood mages running around doing bad things, you could still feel sorry for them because 9 times out of 10 it was a result of Templars squeezing too hard.

Agree. I think the closest I got to feeling the basic fear we should have of mages is in Asunder when the folk at the tavern turn instantly hostile on the mages, and Evangeline then has to protect them. Underscored to me also how important the protective role of the Templars is. We def need to see more of that.

I should really get myself a copy of that. I've heard mixed reviews, but it sounds like it's going to be really important lore/event wise in DA3.

Yeah, when Thrask's daughter is getting assaulted by those slavers and she says "Somebody help me! Please, anybody!" and then explodes into an abomination... I thought that scene could have been so impactful if it had been done differently. And really, it takes at least a handful of Templars to finish off one abomination, and by then a ton of people have probably gotten hurt. I really think we should see fewer abominations and those that we do see should be something more like a boss battle. I mean the lore is that they're really, really powerful!

No wonder the Templars are needed! They definitely need to be restructured from the bottom all the way to the top, but warriors with magic-neutralizing abilities whose job it is to keep them safe and the world safe from them... that's a seriously worthy profession.

At least that's what I think anyhow. Posted Image

They're a double-edged sword, the Templars. When they're good, they have the potential to be amazing. When they're bad, they have the potential to be horrible.

And they also need to be educated about the dangers of causing undue stress on the mages, since human suffering causes instability in the Veil, which is just another way of exposing the world to demonic presences. Even from a practical sense and not just a moral one, an abusive Templar is failing completely in his/her duties.

I think part of the problem was that by the time we caught up with X, Y or Z blood mage they'd already gotten to that point of no return. As soon as you encountered them it was all "F it! Time to let it all hang out!" and blamo.... slicing wrists and blood magic. There was no build up. Why did they think it was the only way? What got them to this point?

Yeah, you'd only ever read about all the cool/not so cool stuff in the codex. From the Templars plight, to the companions background etc, it was all in there, but what good is that when we don't get to experience it in-game.

I think it's (Asunder) worth it. At this point I could take or leave the main story... But it includes things that are core storyline to world events.

I think it's also helpful to see a real world description of Thedas that you never see in game. Like, the kind of lighting they use and that somehow Templars use their swords to channel their smitey juju.

Exactly. Like I was just reading n a codex about the Right of Anullment, that it was created  because one abomination escaped the tower and killed a whole village. Something like that. One!

Maybe the Templars honestly just need to be forced into an early retirement. Like you get 15 years on the force and that's it.

It's probably a mixture of stress and lyrium that makes them go mental. And let's not forget about the poor Templar locked in the dungeon in DA:O, he'd been starved of lyrium for so long that he'd completely lost his mind... I hope that doesn't happen to Cullen, although it would be kinda dramatic.

I would hope that the Templar Order restructuring I see in our future involves a serious look at this lyrium job requirement. Sounds like OSHA needs much, much stricter usage protocols to limit addiction. Workman's comp claims no doubt will go way down!

Oh my! If Cullen went into such awful lyrium withdrawals that he was trembling, sweating, and speaking gibberish, and you kissed him just to help him feel something real... and he clung to you like a man who had his first sip of water in a desert or his first breath of fresh air in the Deep Roads...  Posted Image

1) Swoon! I would love this.

2) I don't think they'll let me change my name to Smitey Juju. If they do, I'm looking in the wrong place.

3) I'm trying to write a little 'first kiss' thing for the big 500 but I keep starting over because I suck. Posted Image

I'll try. It may end up looking like a 5th grader wrote it, but I'll try. I can always see it in my head but somewhere along the line I lost the ability to write it out. Meh. We'll see.

With that said, it's time for me to go. Real life beckons.
