I'm not normally into fanfic either, I only started reading them because the girls in here write them, but now I've read so many that I forget what really happens in-game and what doesn't lol, especially with those mods for the games too!

FWIW, I have heard discussions about c hapter length that suggest more than 10,000 at a pop can be a bit ... much for some readers. In another  forum just with fanfic writers I participate in, the average seemed to be around 4000-5000, but of course, shorter or longer depending on the needs of the story. :shrug: 

I strangely tend to write chapters that are 3700 words. Almost invariably, my first draft will be that long; it's weird. They frequently lengthen once I edit and such, so my ave is about 4000. I usually don't go over 6000 or so.

That's good advice. I figured as much. I'm a quick reader, so I think that's why I like them wrong. But maybe, I will try to write them shorter. I can always write it long then just split it into two chapters. Makes me seem more generous that way with my chapter giving as well lol<3

There's such variation in everyone's style and preference, isn't there? I recall a reader of mine recommending a story that had like 130 chapters, but she said it was fine because the chapters were all short (like 2000 ish words) so it was easy to keep up with. I don't think I could go that short... but it would be easier to update regularly, I suppose.

Ha R2, I cut my current chapter in half and so far got one chapter at almost 5k the other is 3k and counting cause it's not done, but very nice. Gave me two chapters. Oooh that's awesumness!

Yay, looks like today's the day for Page 500!! Let's keep it light til later (afternoonish, EST).

1. As Lola suggested, let's try to keep pg 500 for contributions and save the chitchat for after, where possible . There are 25 posts to a page, so everyone should be able to get theirs in!

2. Some suggested spots for posting longer text: ff.net, deviantart, BSN blog, AO3

3. Some forum  how tos: Some Forum basics |  Visual tutorial on linking and images  |  More forum bells & whistles

-- for those posting links,  please try to make them active (i.e. clickable) so we're not all having to cut and paste the URLs (a hassle for mobile platforms)

-- for those cutting and pasting from Word, consider pasting only regular text to avoid Word formatting gobbledygook. A work around: click the BBCode button up top, paste your text there, click BBCode again, and now you can format as you like for posting.

Can't wait to see what everyone has come up with!!

Hopefully we'll be able to keep page 500 down to just posts of crafts/fanfics/pictures/drawings/etc, so that we don't fill it up with spam. That way everyone can put their contribute in on the same page, when they're able.
