I think the Seekers want Varric because he can tell the story from the beginning, while Cullen only had intermittent contact with Hawke. I wouldn't be suprised if the Chantry arrived in Kirkwall within days of the incident, so whatever statement there was to give was probably given years ago.Avilia wrote...
Before I go however, has anyone else wondered where Cullen is when Cassandra arrives in Kirkwall? I find it strange that she needs to ask Varric about the Gallows when Cullen saw what happened as well. Well not inside but certainly with Meredith. It doesn't make sense that she'd talk to Varric first - it looks like the Seekers had to find him (and drag him into house - Varric knows how to make an entrance).

Alistair is of average intelligence. I'm fairly sure, if he knew about it, other templars and intiates would know, too. So it's not exactly a well-kept secret, more like a common misconception outside of the templar order.Avilia wrote...
The lyrium angle would be interesting Monica. If it turns out Alistair is correct and it was simply a means of control, things could get difficult for the Chantry.
