Lol nah my accent is boring in comparison to you guys!

LOL You guys are cracking me up. Lola always says she sounds like fem!hawke, which I personally think is awesome!

My own hubby has a German accent... but not the kind of accent Americans expect from Germans (which is mor elike an Austrian accent), so he often gets asked where he's from. Of course, he also has long hair, which apparently is odd in NY... so he's either being mistaken for a girl or for some unnameable European.

Long hair in NY isn't so odd (depending on where in the state you are). I'm originally from western NY and that god awful WNY accent comes out when I go back to visit family. I've worked very hard to have non-regional diction, although you can totally tell when I get mad or overly excited. Then I get the NYC / WNY mix. It's disturbing. I've got cousins in Germany that spent time here in Tx - now THAT was a messed up accent! Sounded like a hobo with marbles in his mouth.Posted Image

OK, coming back to Cullen. I love the idea of imagining him as a fish out of water in Orlais.

How about quick accent prompt? How would he deal with the outrageous Orlesian accent? What if he has to fake one himself for some reason?

LOL On Long Island, apparently it is. If I had a dollar for how many times waiters/salespeople come up behind us and say, "Can I help you ladies?" And, my husband is build like a tank. Pretty funny... the first eighteen times...

I would absolutely love to catch him doing a mock Orlesian accent!

Like, maybe some sleazy Orlesian noble is trying to flirt with the protagonist at the masquerade ball, and as the noble leads our protagonist onto the dance floor we see Cullen pull a mocking face and repeat whatever the noble just said in a faux Orlesian accent: "ze night iz young mon cherie... Pah!" (Kinda like Varric's impression when Emile De Launcet's mother talks about The Hanged Man being filthy.)

I envision him having a hard time understanding the accent sometimes. Like he'd be asking people to continually repeat themselves. He could pass it off as hard of hearing and if he were working undercover that would come in handy. He could lurk around and folks would assume he couldn't hear them whispering. And he'd either be absolutely horrible faking the Orlisian accent or would surprise the hell out of the protag by being spot on. No in between. But then he'd have to grow a twisty prissy mustache to go with it. lol

I know what you mean about South African accents! The first time I met someone from there I was like, Australia?? New Zealand?? What??? It's pretty fun to hear Gideon Emery talk that way. Welsh is a bit different, too. It's not an accent that I'd been very exposed to until Dr.Who came back on TV. Now I can spot all the locals from Cardiff when they're trying to sound English/American : p Fun times.

I love Scottish accents as well, but Sebastian's brogue just didn't do it for me, lol. It was a bit ... too pedestrian? On the other hand, I was mightily entertained by Senechaal Bran, even though he was putting on English. He just sounded do delightfully annoyed. I made sure to talk to/laugh at him as much as possible ; )

@VampOrchid
No way, your voice it totally cute! Also, cool scrapbook.

I love the idea that he can't ever understand them. That would be hilarious...
