My theory is that if they don't consider him eligible enough to be at the very least a non-romancable companion (preferably romancable though) in DA3 despite a large chunk of it being about the Mage/Templar rebellion, then there's a slim-to-zero chance of getting him at all in any future DA games. Not to mention that he's getting older now, so if this game takes place over a long time period like DA2 did then he'd probably be too old after that.

Part of me thinks the DA team would be crazy not to take advantage of the opportunity to make him a companion/LI after the wealth of dramatic experience he's had from a personal stand point, but at the same time I won't be surprised of they don't use him.

Neither will I...But I mean why even but him in if he's not going to be in our party...just to mess with us?......and yes if he's not in Da3 he'll be to old..I dont want to romance an old man lol...unless they go back in time but I dont think so

It was announced in 2010

Yeah December 2013/March 2014 sounds about right then! That's only 4 months away, so we don't have too long to wait. I think we can safely say that it won't be out in early March 2013 like a lot of people originally thought it would be.

Awww:crying:

We need to make our voice be heard more.

I am Cullen's fans, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore. XD

I'm honestly considering sending the devs a Cullen figurine made of some sort of candy.

From previous experiences, I think they like our tears better Posted Image Apparantly it tastes pretty sweet in their coffee while they laugh at our pain

So, record ourselves crying our eyes out? j/k, j/k

So what do you guys think of a friendly Cullen for LI in DA3 petition. I think Tonia would dig it. If we keep it nice.

Casey lee: See, that's something I've been wondering for a while now. Why did they retcon his DA:O epilogues? He was such a small NPC in DA:O that they could have easily made the Knight Captain of Kirkwall a completely new character rather than risk fan fallout by changing his fate. Infact in the Dawn of the Seeker behind the scenes at the Bioware studio's footage, there's a cut scene which should've had Cullen in it, but instead there was some old grey haired dude in his place, which seems like originally he wasn't going to be in it at all (or if he was then it would have been a tiny cameo of a mad man or something.)

All of that suggests to me that they have bigger plans for him. I mean, why bother to pretty him up and put him in DA2 with a big NPC role otherwise? Infact they didn't just pretty him up, they turned him into arguably one of the best looking characters in the game (or in my opinion the best looking.) I mean, there's trolling and then there's giving a once minor NPC a large character development throughout the whole game. I kinda feel like DA2 didn't just serve as a plot set up for DA3, but as a bridge to prep Cullen for a companion/possible love interest role in DA3. Perhaps it was done to gauge fan reaction to him? Either way, it worked!

While I agree with you that it's DA3+DLCs or never for Cullen as an LI, I doubt that his age factors into it. Maybe it's just me (plus a few others), but I swear Anders is at least in his early to mid 30s during Act 1 of DA2, which would make him close to or older than 40 when he blows up the Chantry.

He's my reasoning, and I'm curious to know what others think:  During Awakening with a Surana or Amell warden, I always had the impression that Anders was from an older cohort and their apprenticeships did not overlap because he didn't know Surana/Amell from the Circle, even taking into account his younger years before he became an escape artist. Also, Karl strikes me as between 37-45 during Act 1 of DA2. While it's possible that Anders and Karl have a large age gap, it is probably more likely that they didn't.

So, if Anders is between 38 - 43 during Act 3 of DA2, I don't think Cullen will age out too soon.

By the way, although none of the ages in the DAToolSet .chr files are gospel truth, Cullen was originally thought of as 24 during the Origins. That puts him at 31 when Kirkwall's Chantry is blown up. He's still young in the grander scheme of things.

Here's the small amount of info in his DA:Origins chr file:
Cullen- 24 years old
Cultural background:  Ferelden
Description:  Trained Templar. Appears in the Mage Origin as being a little sympathetic to the mages’ situation. However, events in theBroken Circle have hardened him.
Voiced by Greg Ellis
Accent:  Ferelden
Innocent that’s been hardened by circumstance.
Intelligence:  Average
Occupation:  Templar

So, they may have planned him to play an important role since the whole beginning?

Thats exactly what they did with Anders in Awakening.

Looking at where he's at mentally at the end of DA II, I think it's very easy to say that his role has been highly set up to include him as a companion. He was betrayed by the mages he pitied in Origins, so he turned to his role as a Templar for some semblance of sanity, only to have that betray him as well by the outright genocide of mages planned by someone he had defended and looked up to. Cullen is in such a precarious position in the Order, and with the game presumably expanding upon the Templar/Mage conflict, he is the perfect character to connect the player to that hot button issue. Especially since his whole personal conflict ties directly into that subject matter.

Probably not since the begin of DA:O or anything like that. I simply think that they noticed he had a bit of a fan following after DA:O and decided to use him again as a major NPC in DA2. Since his fan following has grown significantly since DA2, and because he now has quite a rich background history, there's a high chance that he will become a companion/LI in DA3. Of course, my theory isn't gospel in any sense of the word, but he does seem like a logical choice now.

I did read somewhere that the Devs plan was to make head canon a mage like Hawk. Which would be wild in itself with what we know so far.

I'm sure there are a few more very minor characters I've forgotten. I'm also discounting any cameo's from past party members because that doesn't count lol.
