Looking at those pictures of the old dude who was originally supposed to be Knight Captain... It makes you wonder if maybe they have all the scenes set up like that before they record the voice acting?

... Unless maybe they changed Cullen's head model purposely for those scenes because it was originally going to be used in an early game play/show and tell thingy, so they didn't want to ruin the surprise?

Ah, could it have been to mask his appearance in DA2? Interesting! I wonder... I'll have to look again at the date of that vid. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a while ago since I recall seeing some of the footage during the run up to DotS coming out.

But, isn't it interesting to see the supposed age one would expect for the Knight-Captain of Kirkwall??  hmm... yet  more support for my headcanon that Cullen's is unusually young for having risen so high so fast.

My theory on the 'original' Knight-Captain is that they elected to expand Cullen's story and figured this was a good way to start. Give him a prominent role in DA2, then bump him up for DA3. So let it be written... so let it be done! lol

You know... this is what I was thinking too... but then... there was quite a bit in the Cullen's quests that was specific to him, given his past. If the decided late to  include Cullen, then it would have to follow that they wrote the Culleny stuff after coding the ending... Given that the writing is supposed to be the first thing that gets done, now I wonder...

I'm starting to think now that it was more of a bait and switch tactic for the fans...

It's certainly thought provoking. But as you said it goes to show just how quickly Cullen was promoted to Knight Captain. It certainly seems like it's usually a title earned over many years of service and experience... I guess that would explain why Cullen still makes such bad decisions lol. Perhaps Meredith was a bit loopy even prior to that red lyrium idol?

LOL on the bad decisions. I may need to headcanon now that he thinks with his heart instead of his head. I always think of him as a thinker, but indeed... he is a bit more rash than that, isn't he? LOL

I think the problem with Cullen is that he over thinks and ends up working himself into a state where he ends up making rash or bad decisions. Despite his loyalty to the Order, there still appears to be part of him that isn't completely taken by the rules, I think he tries to believe that the orders correct, to convince himself, but he's started to see overwhelming evidence to the contrary now.

It certainly seems to be a personality trait with him. And if not then at it would be a good way to write in his lack of Mage detecting abilities and allowing a Mage Hawke to be Viscount (if you're a pro-Templar Mage Hawke.)
