Hahahaha! I was looking for the "O" face pic to post but I just googled "Kinght Captain Cullen" and the images that come up are the recent ones, including fur!Cullen.

Oh gosh, totally forgot about this one. Man, it's been so long since I read it. A fan got a one-on-one interview with DG last year. She asked him this:

Cullen - I asked about Cullen’s backstory, but Gaider really didn’t have much to say other than “he’s a native Fereldan.” Jordan, his friend with him on the trip, didn’t even know who I was talking about, and Gaider seemed a little surprised when I told him how much the fandom has latched onto him. I really think he’s got no clue how much we all love him! But while he didn’t say much about Cullen’s history, we did talk about how we admired his personality and how reasonable he was. Also, good news—he mentioned an interest in maybe revisiting Cullen!! He described Cullen as someone who has had his good faith broken twice—once by the mages in the circle, who he trusted, and then by Meredith, who he also trusted. Gaider expects “angst” in his future, which we may see in the series. I hope so!

And, for completeness, I thought it was a different interview... but this is the one that talks about how we got Cullen  to be so freakin' hot.

Also, apparently if you want the art department to create attractive
characters, DO NOT specify that they are love interests and should be
attractive. Apparently the first render of Carth Onasi looked like Burt
Reynolds. If you don’t specify, the characters will come out
attractive (which is how we got Cullen, he said, lol Gaider thinks
Cullen is attractive, WE DO TOO). Also apparently telling them you want
the character “clean cut” will also make them turn out well. :

Uh oh... does that mean Cullen might look like the back end of a bus this time round? :-S

LOL i hope not. I think his "angst" will be more grown up, based more on fear of loss than "Ohmergerd you don't understand how bad it is being a Templar!!"

I see it being the angst we all imagine, of figuring who he is and where he fits in the world after DA2. He's a big ball of angst just waiting to happen.

Tragic orphans are not angsty... they sing and dance like friggin' Annie or they stab you in your sleep and set the house on fire.

And if they make him super angsty in the future like Fenris I'm going to cry and then slip into quiet denial. He will love me or else it gets the hose again.

Agree. I think if you asked him his favorite color he would give you that look. The "this is no stuffy scholar's debate" look that says, "******, are you really asking me something like that?"

Then... eventually, after having slept over in his spare templar quarters for a while, you start snooping through his clothes one day when you're alone. You notice that many of his clothes are templar issued, emblazoned with the sword of mercy, but some are not. Virtually all of them reveal that he seems to have a fondness for red.

Later you point out this pattern, suggesting that he does seem to have a favorite color. He shrugs non-commitally and changes the subject, but secretly smiles that you would notice something like that.

Red is just pink with more color.

You know... re reading that interview, DG talks about how they regret now that Fenris and Anders romances were both, for lack of a better word, Twilighty. "the ‘oh, you musn’t love me’ man pain thing." I would expect they would avoid that altogether in the next game. Hopefully that's a good sign!

Yeah, that counts for angst. Potentially I think he could have the most emotional storyline for a companion yet.

I don't mind an emotional storyline... I just want there to be a way to end the whining. At some point I'd like there to be some epiphany where he's had his 'come to Andraste' moment and it's going to be ok.

Yeah, I could imagine with him it would be a case of not wanting to get close to someone incase he loses them, or perhaps he doesn't feel worthy, or fears closeness due to his PTSD from his torture in DA:O.

One things for sure, I wouldn't want him to be an easy romance to get. I wanna have to work for it (especially if I'm playing as a mage.)

Agree. And, I think that all naturally translates into romantic angst as well, since how can you be with someone who's so conflicted and not having it affect your relationship.

So, I think you get some insta-angst there as well. Of course everything I can think of, though, sounds like "the ‘oh, you musn’t love me’ man pain thing."
