Haha - as our resident Orlesian, I vote you begin every post with "Le". My husband does this all of the time. "I am le tired." or "I am le hungry."VampOrchid wrote...

Erm, who the hell is Templar hugh and why isn't he wearing his Templar uniform?
Le huh?
LOL! too funny!
My kids are being raised mostly french...so when they watch bugs bunny, they are confused as to why Peppy always has 'Le' in his sentencing lol
So I tend to say "le" alot because of that! HA!

Well, the one time I wrote a fanfic (that corrupted itself) I was purposely going for that hammy OTT Orlesian accent, so the noble was like: " 'ow would you like to dance with me, mon petite fleur? Ze night is still young, no?" - y'know, that kinda thing lol. But if I was writing Cassandra's dialogue I would do it normally but maybe mention her accent or where she's from at some point, so that people are aware that she'd have a certain accent.
HA!

Quick question I guess...for those who write/read fic....
When writing a character that has a thick accent...do you write her lines the way she would speak them or the way it's grammatically correct to write them?
I think it's more challenging to write them the way she would actually speak them. Also, as a reader I think it helps me dive into the story more.
Thoughts...
If they have a heavy accent I'd write it in, but not so dramatically that it's a distraction. And not every character should have their accent spelled phonetically - just the ones that stand out. Like Hagrid in the Harry Potter books. We get the idea that Professor McGonagal might be Scottish even though her speech doesn't show it since she's always wearing tartan when she can. The author can sometimes just give clues like that, or say things like "in a Nevarran accent so thick, Sally wasn't sure he was speaking the common tongue at all." or "... she purred, in that sexy Orlesian accent he loved."
Oooh good advise. I've been doing a bit of the two so far. So I guess I am on dah right track

lmao What's the discussion that would involve an answer of Cullen being a meat and potatoes man?
We're talking about what his favorite meal would be.

LL, I love that you mentioned the dirty oranges! LOL
Miss_Blackjack, that conjures up some memories. Didn't Leliana talk about lamb stew once? It's like it's on the tip of my memory.
I bet Cullen likes pie. Or would, if someone baked one for him.

lol yup, when she was questioning Alistair on the stew he made.
I expect the food in Orlais will be frilly and pretentious as Alistair had described it. lol
