I think we're doing the icon one first, then the T.shirt one... Maybe say his backstory for page 1000?
Sounds good. What's the icon contest about?

Just because the thread goes off topic every so often doesn't mean we should give up and just talk about Twilight. They have and -do- close topics for being off topic, and if we want Tonia Laird to come back or any devs for that matter, we really need to make more of an effort to keep it that way. I am aware that it's a slow-news week, but there are a lot of things we can do to keep this going forward.
So I'm going to hold my own little event.
The 10-Variation Icon Challenge.
The rules are simple. Claim one picture, any one picture, of Cullen. It can be your own artwork, someone elses artwork (with proper credit), a screenshot, whatever. When you've chosen your picture, post it here and claim it as the picture you're going to use. Then, make ten 100x100 icons using that one picture. You can add whatever text you want, filters, whatever. You can make it in paint, photoshop, paintshop, whatever you want. Everyone with a computer should be able to use paint or something similar. Each icon should be different, and that's the challenge. Once you've completed your icons, email them to me at Dejajeva@gmail.com.
You will have one week from today, the 7th, to complete this challenge. They will not be voted on, only one post where we will share all of our creations. If you want your icons to be anon, simply let me know in your email. I've done this type of challenge in other forums where there are creative people, and it's a lot of fun. Plus, since it has to be Cullen, it's a great way to keep this on track.
I realize not everyone will want to do this- my hope is that there will be all kinds of weekly and monthly challenges for all types of creativity, from fic prompts to baking challenges. Not to mention Halloween is quickly approaching and maybe for that we could do a costume/makeup thing. There's also the idea of secret santa online for the holiday season. There's LOTS to do!
Example.

I like those- the coloring is awesome.
And I still want to do it- just that I haven't gotten any responses yet. I'll be posting what I've done on Friday, anyway. lol.

Ah no harm, no foul, staarbux. I can see your quandary. I also tend to headcanon Cullen hetero, so I was curious to see another perspective. LOL maybe it's just Carver/Cullen that doesn't work.
Carver/Anyone doesn't work because he's just such a colossal douche.

My favorite "type" for Cullen would be a more experienced person who is tolerant of Cullen's quirks and who is patient enough to explain why somebody would want rubberized sheets and tactful enough to do it in a way that didn't embarrass him.
I think this would be cute and works for male or female PC. Actually I would like a female LI to be more experienced and more tolerant of her silly templar's quirk's. Like I want the female PC to be the seducer because I think that would make Cullen blush xDDD
For a boy, I want him to be younger and sort of bright-eyed, the type to maybe get on Cullen's nerves ... like I can see him rubbing the bridge of his nose and sighing when bright-eyed boy PC says or does something ridiculous. But not in the bratty Carver kind of way. More like the cute Merrill kind of way.

I've actually read some interesting Carver fic with him as a Grey Warden. I think it works much better than stuff set in Kirkwall though because the GWs are more likely to be all 'STFU Carver and stop whining your ass off'. Yunno?
I read one with Anders that worked well but it broke my heart because it was clear Anders was only after him because he couldn't have Hawke.

LOL Agree that Warden!Carver is actually quite sweet (of course mostly in the fic I've read). I like that he seems all growed up, finally! It does make me wonder what Cullen would have thought of him as a templar. Seems he was still a little bratty, altho props for standing up for his sis/bro at the end.Staarbux wrote...

Aw,no love for Carver? I know, I know. He is a hard character to love, but I do. Quite possibly because he reminds me of a good friend who seemed like a colossal jerk until I realized that his apparent arrogance and sarcasm was a facade to hide a sensitive, highly vulnerable core. Eventually, he realized that I wasn't going to write him off because of his attitude and let me get close enough to see what he is really like. We've been friends for 25 years. Kind of like Carver does once he grows up a bit.motomotogirl wrote...

That, and he was written as a bratty younger brother. That's what they do.
Ah, for me, that doesn't work so well because I don't want to cast Cullen as the teacher. Because of Cullen's professionalism and the fact that he is bound to be older than the PC, a more innocent/ingenuous boy might bring out the mentor in him. With some characters, that lends itself well to romance, but I can't see Cullen getting past the responsibility. Unless something happened where Cullen was placed in a compromising position (I mean physical danger, not moral) and the PC had to save him and show him that he was really a lot more grown up than Cullen thought.berelinde wrote...

This is a good description of what I've been thinking. I see him being a bit aggro in his need to protect others. So, to borrow from Pretty Woman, he needs someone who "can rescue him right back."LolaLei wrote...
I'm not sure who Cullen would suit really. At first I thought Aveline, but although they have a similar, work-orientated outlook on life, I think he needs someone who can help him relax a little and at the same time protect him emotionally/mentally.

Yeah, but at the same time not undermine his need to protect, so it would need to be someone who understands him and can be subtle in his/hers approach to look after him, because he's had to rely on himself for so long that he might feel a little emasculated at first lol.
LOL You know, a PC he is following could be perfect for this. Because he's already had to get used to following her lead, presumably before they even got involved romantically. So they would have had to refine that interaction already, of letting him do his protecty thing while still letting her be in charge. Hmm, some delicious opportunities there...

This may be kinda out there, but I could see him with somebody like Awakening!Anders... without the templar hate, that is. Snarky enough on the surface to lighten him up, but compassionate enough on a personal level to not make him feel foolish. And, from a m/m perspective, somebody like Awakening!Anders would be good for him. Awakening!Anders (and DA2!Anders, but the latter is wrong for a number of reasons) is very flexible about gender roles, so I wouldn't think he would mind letting Cullen be the alpha male until Cullen was confident and relaxed enough to share his sensitive side.

Aveline would probably make Cullen's stick-in-the-mud/serious side more pronounced, plus it's clear she likes to wear the trousers in her relationship.

Here's my concern with how they may write Cullen in regards to this. I adore playing a powerful female PC- one who is independent and can make the hard decisions. But I also think that for once, I'd like a LI that isn't a giant angst-ridden emo who depends on my PC for all of his emotional needs. I'd like them to create a character LI that is sort of like a cross between Aveline and Isaella but in guy form, without being a **** like Zev. Or someone like Varric. Someone who can be my PC's equal- and help share her burden instead of adding to it. All of the LI's of my Hawke were powerful- they could all hold their own on the battlefield, but when Hawke's mom died- they may have all come to visit, but even Anders made it all about him.
For once I'd like the choice to romance someone emotionally stable. Maybe someone who has issues, sure, I don't want anyone without their fair share of things to work through, that's boring- but I think I'm tired of having a LI who has to rely on me to babysit their angst.
That's my concern then, with Cullen. He seemed rather calmed down when we saw him in DA2 from DAO- less twitchy for sure. But he's likely to have just as many inner-turmoil issues as anyone, and while I'd love to be able to help him work through them, I don't want him crying on my shoulder every night either, if that makes sense. I want him to be strong, mature, capable, and I want him to grow into being my equal or be my equal, not someone who mopes around behind me ****ing all day about his angst. Does that make sense?
I don't have high hopes for it though with Bioware's history with broody men- but I'm hoping that if a female is truly writing him, she'll give him a set of balls.

Cullen and Awakening Alistair, huh?I just don't see it, to be honest. Cullen seems to be always serious while Anders always makes snarky comments. The two of them would bicker half the time. Romactically speaking, I think Fenris would be a better match for Cullen.berelinde wrote...
