I haven't played DA:O since I finished my ultimate playthrough where I done every quest etc... although I still didn't get that random Easter egg where a group of people ask you to pull an axe from a log lol. I'm still playing DA2 currently, I've got 2 more achievements to get before I've got 100% completion, so I'll finish that then do my ultimate play through some time nearer to DA3's release, just to refresh my memory.

Wait that happens?!
That's never happened to me before! Damnit I thought I'd done every quest lol
I havent decided what's going to be my cannon playthough yet. Either
FemAmell/FemHawkeMage  FemAmell/MaleHawkeMage   or MaleCouslandWarrior/MaleHawkeMage
What do you guys think?

This:

I've never managed to get it to happen in my game though.

Ahh okay.

I think it'd be interesting if both your imports were mages.

As for me, if this playthrough of my third "Alfidaiya" (not counting Awakenings) goes well, I'll make her mine (oh but I don't have the pc DA 2...I can always remake her on console I guess); then there's my female dwarf noble I love.

Both my canon female Warden and male Hawke are mages lol.

Oh is that Amell or Surana?
I havent done a dwarf playthrough yet but played through the noble origin and loved it!
I think my favorite origin story will always be the magi (not souly because of Cullen lol) but I just love the whole idea of magic and being.. I dont know the word for it uh special? sort of lol

I've just realised you missed out on some interesting theories we were talking about earlier, so I'll start it up again now more of us are here:

Earlier on I asked the following question:

In Cullen's codex it says that the rumour that he was once in love with our Warden Mage seems to cause him
pain. Based on what we know about him throughout the course of two games (ignoring all fanfic and speculation) do you suppose it caused him pain because it was lost, unrequited love or because he was ashamed of falling for a Mage?

Well ignoring my fan-ness (if that's even a word) of wanting to say it was all because of loss, hmmm, at least for my warden it wasn't unrequited, though maybe he doesn't know that and feels like it is? I think it's a mixture of all three to be honest. I'm sure he feels like he lost her after he yelled at her and he also seems to have shame about it (less so in DA2) but I imagine it still exists somewhat

I think it's a mixture of things too. He seems to have come to peace with it when he mentions her to Hawke since he sounds quite wistful when talking about her. I think he'll definitely be in a better frame of mind mentally and emotionally in DA3, his guard will be down in regards to love since he'll no longer be eaten up with guilt like he was at the end of DA:O/beginning of DA2.

So when he suddenly finds himself falling for our new protagonist he'll get a whole new set of reasons to be dramatic because he wouldn't have expected such strong feelings to be roused in him again lol.

Ooh yes, especially if that protagonist is a mage, me :P
Ah, I can't wait for DA3, if they make Cullen a companion I might just be too happy, I'll come ranting on the forums all day about how happy I am Cullen's a companion..
but what if he's not a companion? Gah what will I do!?

Wow! Lots going on here! First off- Hugs to Lola. Hang in there, things will get better:) Playing games is my therapy. Not kidding. Sometimes you just have to get your mind off of the real world.
Next, I tried to watch the video, and just couldn't finish. Really, made me want to do one of those full body shivers, in a bad way.
'Gift box' made me LOL! I never get presents like that!
Due to a bad bug I had to wipe my hard drive a while back and lost all my saves for DA:O. I had it heavily modded so I've been putting off starting over. Reading all of this makes me want to do it tho. Better get to work! Happy gaming to all!

She's a Surana. :)

The [female] dwarf noble story I noticed drew me in the story a lot more than any of the other origins.  I even cried lol when she was sent to the Deep Roads.  And at one point, Gorim tells my character he'll always love her.  Well, guess what?  He is exiled to the surface and marries a blacksmith's daughter and gets her pregnant. >:-( .  Ever since I played dwarf noble, I swore revenge on Bhelen and Frandlin Ivo (too bad you don't see him again, bastard).

I'd hope that, if Cullen isn't made a companion/LI then he'd at least show up as a cameo or major NPC. Although I'm worried that he won't appear in DA3 at all because he's already been in the first two.

It sucks that you lost your saves, still, it's a good reason to play DA:O again!

LOL seriously? Sounds like Mass Effect took inspiration from that one because Jacob does the EXACT same thing to female Shepard in ME3!

Well they have to know how popular he is right? If you go on any forum on here regarding who people want to see in DA3 there isn't one who doesn't say Cullen. I saw an interview done awhile ago that made me really think he was going to be a companion. Hmm, let me see if I can find it...

They must know, he's got two full games worth of fans which must account for at least double what Anders had in Awakenings and he got made a companion (again) in DA2. I'd like think think that DA2 was not just an interlude/filler/story set up for DA3 but for Cullen too. He wouldn't have had much to do from a romance/story arc point of view in DA2 but for DA3 potentially he could be an integral part. Especially since the Dragon Age team like to have at least one romaneable character who plays an important part in the main story (in DA:O it was Alistair/Morrigan and in DA2 it was Anders.) Why not have Cullen as a main plot point companion in DA3.

okay found the interview, It's not much and it's pretty old but it mentions Cullen in there somewhere giving me a slight bit of hope

but anyway here's the part where they talk about him

....
DG: Well, we think about it too. When we cut that plot I was like "Oh. All right, so...I guess nobody notices..." So I put a couple comments into Meredith's dialogue, she sort of comments "We knew who you were," and in a few other places. I think we should've put something into Cullen's dialogue. [laughter]

TUK: Poor Cullen. So oblivious.

DG: Jennifer wrote that plot, and afterwards, I forget what it was, someone said "You know, wouldn't Cullen happen to burst onto the scene and you're casting spells, wouldn't he say 'So you're a mage...'" It was too late for us to do anything about it and we decided that Cullen is just very oblivious.

TUK: [more laughter] But he's very sweet!

DG: He's very sweet. Poor guy, goes through life, he's at the Ferelden Tower, doesn't realize he's surrounded by blood mages. Goes to Kirkwall, doesn't realize he's surrounded by blood mages. Gonna end up with a little bit of a complex, he's like "Wow, I'm a lousy[/i] Templar!"

TUK: Any chance we'll see Cullen again, and might he be in our party?

DG: There are girls who work here who, if they had their way, definitely. He has really nice hair. Maybe. I could have plans right now and "Yeah, totally, we'd have him in the party and everything!" and then next week that would change, so I'm always leery of making promises. I like Cullen. I joke about him in some ways but I like the arc he represents. There are some minor characters, like Sandal for instance, I like the idea of having them be a unifying factor. Like R2D2 and C-3PO manage to make their way into every sort of plot. Every major story has the Maker's witnesses, who witness the big chances that are occurring, a bit of connecting tissue between the games. And there are things I think can be done with Cullen. I like the idea that he has confronted probably the worst that the mages have, he's encountered the worst of what mages can do. Yet he hasn't done what some Templars have done, like Meredith, or--I keep wanting to call him Knight Divine--Lord Seeker Lambert in the novel, how they have reacted is to become very anti-mage and very judgemental and to paint all the mages in the same basic plot, a few bad apples spoils the bunch. Cullen to me represents another side of Templars which is a side that we need to keep active. Not all Templars are these heartless bastards who would happily torture mages, that's not true, there are Templars who are good people. I think Cullen is a good man who recognizes that there are dangerous in magic, dangers that have to be dealt with, but he doesn't lack for compassion and doesn't try to say "Well, let's take the hard approach and kill everybody and let the Maker sort them out." At the end of DA2 he's the person who sort of tries to put on the brakes, the voice of sanity if you will. I think that's important to represent, so in that respect I like the idea of Cullen reappearing, I like that element of his character, so it's definitely a possibility.

I always thought he was going to be a companion since the end of DA2. Think about it why else would they have him stand up for you like that at the end? and Cullen's also unkillable. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions but I sure hope not. I agree he would be such a good person to have as a the main companion in DA3. He's a templar so it's not like he doesn't go great into the story

He's a templar so it's not like he doesn't go great into the story

From that interview you posted, it certainly sounds like he's been giving Cullen some serious consideration as a companion. I suspect if he does decide to have him as a companion/LI it'll be David that writes his story/romance arc since it seems like he finds Cullen an intriguing character, he'd probably enjoy the challenge of coming up with dramatic scenes for him too.

It would have been easy for them to just kill Cullen off after DA:O or have him return as a complete psycho, killing Mages left, right and centre in DA2, hell he was enough of a minor character in DA:O that I didn't expect to see him in DA2 at all. Why bother promoting him to such an important roll within the Templar order and turn him into a voice of reason for the hell of it? Why bother completely retconing his epilogue(s) from DA:O, resulting in backlash from fans just for ****s and giggles? They must have something big planned for him in DA3 to even bother developing his character to the extent that they have.

Oh I'd love it for David Gaider to write him. He's a great writer, I heard they got a new writer on the team as well so that should be interesting. I agree after seeing him in DAO I expected him to turn up all crazy lest he turn up at all. In fact the first time I heard his name in DA2 I thought, wait Cullen? don't I know him from somewhere...
lol, It wasn't till DA2 that I really got interested in his story and played the mage origin over again. I never expected Cullen to develop how he did. It's one of the reasons why I love his story arc

Ok, so who do we start sending the flowers and chocolates to at Bioware to get this Cullen companion to happen? We can sign it "Looking forward to being relevant in DA3.. all the best, Cullen". LOL

They've got a new writer? This could prove interesting!

The first time I played DA2 my import was a female noble that married Alistair so I hadn't known about Cullen being in love with the Mage Amell and I hadn't realise that he was the same Cullen from the broken circle quest. It wasn't until I played through all the origins stories for the achievement that I decided I liked the female Mage origins story best and then started up my ultimate playthrough as one, discovering Cullen's little crush really intrigued me. Then I played through DA2 a second time with my female Amell Mage import and I realised that Knight Captain Cullen was the cute stuttering Templar from the circle... Then he mentioned Amell and I read his codex and I thought "aw, you poor thing!" and started looking into his back story etc on YouTube and realised that he had quite a fan base, I hadn't expected to find fanfics and art about him lol... Things kinda progressed from there and I decided that he absolutely had to be a LI in DA3 lol.
