I don't get the Cullen hate...really? He's a good character even if you don't fussy him

I think a lot of people were angry about his DA:O epilogues (even though they were retconned) then when he said that Mage's weren't people and took Bethany to the Gallow's people were pissed off. A lot of Mage supporters are also angry that there's rape and torture going on in the Gallow's and Cullen seems to do nothing about it... some even think he joins in. :-S

but that's what makes da so dark...and why we love it.

I think Honestly, in da, that Cullen might have been oblivious, or naive about the entire rape/torture thing...In Da2, he doesn't really have control over that sort of thing yet...but meh, haters are gonna hate lol

Okay I'll try to give you the short story, this may take a while...
Wynne, her circle-mage son Rhys, another mage named Adrian, Shale, and Knight-Captain Evangeline (of Orlais circle) are sent out by the Divine to save Wynne's tranquil friend, Pharamond, who was researching a way to reverse tranquilty and got possesed by a demon (which should be impossible) Knight-Captain Evangeline was sent by the head of the Seekers, Lord Seeker Lambert, to kill them if it was true that Pharamond found a way to reverse tranquility to stop it from getting out.

So during this lovely little trip they meet up with Shale and Evangeline and Rhys fall in love. Once they get to Pharamod they found out Pharamod(who is now untrainquil) had found a way to reverse tranquility. Evangeline now reluctent to kill them returns with them to tell the Divine the news. They get to the divine (with Lord Seeker Lambert pissed) and try to convince her to consider reversing tranquility on the mages. The divine doesn't agree but allows a meeting between the first enchanters of every circle to discuss the idea. (This is the first meeting allowed since the events of Kirkwall which were about a year before this)

So all the first enchaters of the circles and the grand enchanter (who is now Fiona ironically) all meet but end up talking about rebelling. In the middle of this meeting Lambert and the templars go against the divine and start killing the mages. Wynne and Evangeline (who is now on the mages side) escape but Rhys is held prisoner at the White Spire (the Orlais circle). The Divine helps Wynne orchestrate a plan to free Rhys and the other mages held prisoner. Wynne, Shale, Lelianna, and Evagngeline enter the White Spire and destroy all the phylactories there and free Rhys and the other mages from the prison. During the breakout Evangeline is killed but Wynne sacrifices herself by giving Evangeline the spirit of Faith inside her, therefore Wynne dies instead (sad I know.)
After the mages escaped Lord Seeker learned about the Divine helping the mages and decleared templars apart from chantry rule, therefore breaking apart from the chantry. The Mages and Templars are now fighting against eachother.

Cassandra's not in the book so I'm not sure whether Lambert is her superior or equal. I'm also not sure whether she's under the divine or Lambert.

So anyway that's the story, it's probably really confusing so let me know if you wan't me to clear anything up. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Templars that do it are discreet around Cullen and wait until he's not around, hell Cullen can't even say the word "brothel" without getting flustered so there's no way he's involved in any of it, let alone aware that it's going on.

(I could have sworn I already posted this once already but it seems to have disappeared, so I apologise if I'm repeating myself.) But after watching the DA2 endings again I seriously think Cullen will actually be in the dog house in DA3 either because they'll accuse him of not making enough effort to catch Anders, resulting in the Chantry blowing up which caused the Mage/Templar rebellion and/or because he let Hawke and his/her companions go (if Hawke sided with the Mages.) Varric mentions in the Mage supporter ending that hundreds of Templars were sent to regain order in Kirkwall but that Hawke 'n' co were long gone by then, as were all the Mages by the sounds of it.

So it could be a high possibility that we will end up with Cullen as a companion either as a punishment to him/reason for him to rectify things as a Templar under orders of the Divine or whoever OR as some sort of ex Templar hired hand/lyrium junky lol.

I don't know if the DIvine would punish Cullen or if she would even have the authority to anymore, I guess since the templars officially broke-up with the chantry I don't think they're still under the divines command, though I think CUllen would probably follow the DIvine anyway. I have no idea what's going on with the seekers. If Cassandra is still under the divine maybe Cullens taking order from her now.
Hmm this brings up an interesting point if they do make Cullen a companion do you think they'll keep him a templar or make him an ex-templar?

What I wonder is, what are the Templars actually rebelling for? Are they fighting against Mages or have they sided with the Mages against the Chantry in some weird twist of fate? Alternatively have they gone rogue and formed their own hierarchy, ruling with an iron fist and killing every Mage on sight?

If it's the latter then I can't imagine Cullen would want to be a part of that, perhaps he would have in the beginning of DA2, but by the end he's realised that killing Mages nonsensically is wrong. In which case he would be an ex Templar... maybe even a seeker? Hell, he might even be working with the Mages!

Have you read Asunder?
It shows what happened with the templars rebelling and everything, if not I can write a little summary to why they rebel and everything on here :)

I haven't read it, I hadn't know about it until the other day lol. Tell me everything LOL!

Ah I see! So the Templars are indeed fighting the Mage's. How come a Tranquil was looking up ways to reverse it? Surely they wouldn't have the desire to do such things after the rite of tranquility is invoked?

Ok, so here's my next question!

In the light of recent events that took place in the Dragon Age: Asunder novel that Jasmine96 kindly gave us the low down on, what do you guys think Cullen's stance on the matter will be? Do you think he tried to reason with the Templars and convince them to rejoin the Chanty? Do you think he joined the Templar rebellion? Has he become a Seeker? Did he side with the Mages? Or do you think he quit the Templar order, instead spending his time drunk or as a hand for hire?

Seriously? Hm, well this just makes DA3 even more interesting! I wonder if they will put into play some of the ideas from the novels... I know they did with ME3 when they introduced Kai Leng into the game.

I'm hoping that's what DA3 will answer

I'm hoping that he eather becomes a templar/seeker/or warden and just joins our damned party lol:devil:

He was originally looking for a way to invoke tranquility without the mages losing there emotions but instead found out a way to reverse tranquility. The story also involves a demon kid named Cole and alot more to the story but it's not important to the story.

In the background it involves talk about civil war in Orlais but they don't give much information on it.
They also make it unclear whether Lambert is Alive at the end. The books ends with the demon stand over his bed with a knife but they don't clarify whether he gets killed

I couldn't imagine Cullen leaving the templars, he seems very dedicated. I have a feeling there are some templars and seekers under Lambert and then some under the Divine (who I'm unsire of what side she's on). I imagine Cullen would go under the Divine. I was thinking maybe he'll be sent with the pc like Evangeline was sent with Wynne and Rhys

I've gotta ask, why are there so many pictures out there of Cullen with a scar across his face? Is there something I missed, like a popular fanfic where he gets injured or something?

Gah! I dunno if I can wait until 2013 or 2014 to finally get answers! Although, apparently they announced DA3 was in the works way back in March 2011. I wonder how far into the development stages they are?

I could see him leaving, but not giving up on his 'duties' and 'honor'. If the order is no longer what it once was and what it stud for, yes I can see that. I could see him wanting to follow the templar ways, but slowly becoming more...what's the word I'm looking for...tamed?
