Okay, unpopular opinion: I hate the Isabela x Fenris thing. And I've been told in the past, "That's just because Fenris is always GAY in your game, so you don't like him being with a woman." I'm sorry, but Fenris having casual sex with someone is just bizarre and out of character. And I know people make arguments to the contrary, but it's just a feeling I can't get over. I also hate the "But he has needs; you can't expect him to be celebate" argument. First of all, spare me the whole "He's a man; he has needs" sh!t. Second of all, he's capable of forming a relationship with Hawke; why can't he do that with somene else? It's clearly set up during the Fenris romance track that sex is a big deal for Fenris. Hawke can hit on him again and again, and all he does is laugh nervously. You want to talk about Cullen having PTSD? Um, HELLO! Fenris is the poster boy for that condition, being an ex-slave and all, and a lot of that stress centers around sex. 

Anyway, it just makes me mad, and it really just murdered his character, and if this happens to Cullen I will be effing pissed. So if they want to make Cullen form a relationship with an NPC, it had better be a relationship that stays true to his character, not one that is shoved in there only for amusing banter and comic relief.

Agree! I'm glad I'm not the only annoyed by that.

If you can't make it work with Cullen, and suddenly he's all goo goo eyes and casually sleeping with some mage in your group... ? grr Or casually sleeping with someone like Isabela who had painted a target on his virginity... ?

I think Isabela paints a target on almost everyone remotely attractive's virginity. On a more on topic note do you think Cullen is still a virgin? I mean he could be, but he could have also been engaged at one point right? Doubtful I know but maybe it didn't last past the wedding night for whatever reason.

@moto: I know that the casual relationship that develops in some peoples' games between Fenris and Isabela bothers you, and I'm not trying to sway you or imply that your interpretation of the character is any less valid than mine. Once a game goes live and the characters are released into the wild, as it were, it's the individual player's prerogative to interpret the character any way she sees fit. I just want to explain why the Fenris/Isabela thing works for me. It bothered me that Hawke never had a chance to say "Easy, tiger, I care about you, but I'm not asking for forever." In my head, it's the feels that are scaring Fenris, not the idea that sex always has to be meaningful. When Isabela comes along later offering him a quick fix, it makes sense because he isn't feeling anything for her. I imagine that if they kept at it long enough, he would eventually come to care for Isabela, maybe even love her. That's how I wanted his romance with Hawke to go, actually.

So, that being the case, I don't really see Cullen's romance developing along those lines. In my mind, Cullen abstains because 1) he's shy, and 2) he has inhibitions to overcome (no, I'm not saying that he's a prude, more that he's never allowed himself to become involved). So yeah, if he's going to do it, he's going to be serious about it.

I'm not done yet about Cullen, but if the cafeteria will close in mere moments and I forgot to pack a lunch.

The way I see the whole virginity thing is, we have had the virgin, chaste, ****, experienced and abused. Cant we have a man who is more like Aveline? Had a meaningful relationship (and lost their v-card) but that's it. I think Cullen would be the perfect opportunity for this and I want it bad.

Personally, I don't. I think his experience is probably  limited, but I imagine various scenarios from a youthful exploration or two to slightly more mature interactions like this.

That was just an example of something that might happen in a new game that would ****** me off.

Warrior!Hawke runs into Cullen somewhere, for whatever reason and after they exchange a few barbs, he demands why she hates him and she reminds him about the fact that he took Bethany away. He says he remembers she had challenged him that night and he would have met that challenge if her sister hadn't come between them. So in a show of honor - as OOC as it might be for him to make a public display (but hey this could be at night when few people are around) - he decides to accept that challenge.  After that, their friendship improves greatly! Personally I'd love it if Hawke kicks his 4$$! But not by much.

Just love this look he gives Hawke... tee hee...

Hmm, interesting. You know... it's so funny that it can be interpreted in such different ways. I really thought Fenris was telling me that he was having full on  crazy flashbacks when he had sex with me, like, literally. I suppose this is also added on to major intimacy issues he could have, resulting in him running away. So... the part of pissed me off was that if he was literally having some physical/mental challenges like that, why did they suddenly go away with Isabela?

I wonder if perhaps it wouldn't have bothered me if I'd never slept with Fenris. I could potentially see him finding comfort in someone that doesn't require mind and body commitment, and even coming to love them. So on the surface, Fenris x Isabela might not  bother me if I had never known about his bedroom hang ups. But, I did; the first time I discovered it was on my Fenris dumps me so I go with Anders PT #2, which followed my Fenris friendmance PT #1.

EDIT: You know, I totally bet you could find a way so that it's not OOC for them to throw down for real in some back alley. Maybe Hawke's drunk and being an ****, and he's having a really really  bad day. He thinks he'll just humor her and teach her a quick lesson, when surprisingly even drunk!Hawke is a force to be reckoned with, and she ultimately whoops him in some funny and inelegant way. I know you could do it justice, Samara!

I know! I know! But I can't! I'm busy! Got so much I'm already working on AND trying get all my stuff squared away for going to Trucking Academy. I'll get to it eventually...

That was just an example of something that might happen in a new game that would ****** me off.

You know I just realised there aren't that many romances where a companion cheats on you. I mean even Isabela became somewhat tame when she and Hawke started knocking pointy toed boots (maybe she/he kept her sated...giggity) despite it being a bit out of character. I mean maybe they do it out of a perpetual fear of things going right or maybe it's malicious and sort of turns people off but you can whip that person into shape and make them regret it.

I think it would add more to the omg I love you PC because despite having the face of a toad run over by a train you have mystical plot cologne/perfume.

Sadly, no. There was a collection called Cullen and his mage, but the owner has disappeared (or at least totally ignored my PMs). But... easy to search for Cullen fics on there.

Ah, yes, if you thought Fenris was telling the truth about the flashbacks, I can see why his having sex with Isabela would bother you. It would bother me, too... if I didn't think that he was lying the whole time. Fenris is hypersensitive about showing weakness. If you've ever rivalled him, you have probably realized that Fenris would rather lose a limb than admit that he's wrong. That isn't a bad thing! It's great, in fact. People really are like that. So then, when he wakes up with Hawke's head on his shoulder, he feels all tender and happy... and it scares the crap out of him. So, being Fenris, he comes up with some story about memories returning in a rush and not being able to describe them. After all, you'd think that if the memories were scary enough to make him swear off sex, they'd have to be pretty memorable.

Back to Cullen. I can't he him having a casual relationship with *anyone*. Just can't. He's all about duty and responsibility. I don't think he lets people get close to him because he is afraid that it would interfere with the detachment he needs to do his job. If he starts thinking about people as individuals instead of always in the plural, he's going to have to start thinking about mages as people, too. Considering the things he has done in his life (I'm thinking about overlooking the crimes of the Gallows - sin of omission in failing to stop Alrik, Karras, etc.), I'm sure that realization would be quite a blow and cause a major meltdown. So yeah, no such thing as a casual relationship with Cullen. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Yes. Trucking, as in the big, honkin 18 wheelers! I'm excited but also nervous. Kinda sad to be having to be away from home a lot but it will support the household. :happy: Once I'm settled into it, I can write when I'm off duty and sitting bored in my rig.
