I don't think it's awesome at all. Hm, maybe we won't get him as a companion after all?

I agree  I get the feeling DG, while obviously lacking the insensitivty and hatred that these other people have, and being himself a really nice guy, still feels the same way about us Cullen fans: that we are just derranged fangirls (males get left out, especially straight male fans ... doesn't fit the MO).

There is nothing wrong with thinking a character is hot. But this thread is not nothing but naked Cullen pics. We have serious discussion about him, and NO, we are not making things up. We are looking at what the writers, DG included (being the head writer and all) have told us about Cullen, and we're then making educated guesses about aspects of his character.

Yeah, sounds really derranged, I know!! :?

I read in an interview that DG was very surprised by the support for Cullen, and I think he still is. So ... I'm scared. This could really mean he has no intention of making Cullen a companion.

I mean it almost feels like the writers are saying, "No, you guys are wrong; we actually wrote a pretty crappy character. Stop obsessing over him."

Also, I found a new one: "Cullylicious" - For real.

I think that he was saying that we tend to over analyze things. Thats not to say that they don't have things planned for characters just that sometimes we go a bit over board...

They've cracked out the old rape argument again. Sheesh.

I saw that post. It touches on some of the angst I think Cullen would feel if he ever got involved with somebody, especially a mage. Several pages ago, I posted how I think Cullen's biggest obstacle to intimacy is his inability to think of people in the singular sense. It would be interesting to see what would happen to him if he *did* get involved in a romance and was forced to change the way he thinks of other people. He might have some guilt to deal with, thinking about what went on during his watch. Maybe he would start to wonder how much blame fell on him.

I'm not saying this would be an insurmountable obstacle, but it would make for some unusual pillow-talk.

So long as he didn't actually rape anyone lol.

But I agree. I know we've had are moments in here where things get a bit bizarre, but that's all in good jest. Most of the time we have intelligent conversation, be it from a purely speculative POV or not.

Dunno. I wouldn't expect DG to poke fun at fans for exercising their imagination, though. That's kind of the point of playing RPGs, isn't it?

Danny: Hi Sheryl was wondering if u could shed some light on how u guys determine who gets what companion? Is seniority involved at all

Sheryl: It's usually settled in a cage fight.

Danny: I knew it...so who did you beat down for Izzy?

Besides, I'm sure DG must have crushed on a fictional character at least once in his life.

Do you suppose he ever lurks in here? Even just briefly to see what all the fuss is about?

Didn't you post something the other day to that effect?

It is one of the friendliest places on the forum, after all. Even when we disagree, we're still nice to each other.

Lol I always say it. But, he must have seen fans discussing Cullen character either in here or elsewhere to know that we're just filling in gaps and probably getting it completely wrong lol.

Well he knew we were atwitter about his tweet. But I doubt he would stay long. ESP not with our recent silliness.

Rats now I'm back to being vaguely offended again.  :(

He'll poke fun whenever he wants, after the whole Jenn Hepler debacle I doubt he takes anything BSN users to heart, even well meaning ones. Plus he sometimes gets a little snooty (all in good fun), Whether we exercise our imagination is moot since he probably chuckles at our plans compared to what they themselves have cooked up.

He's not as charming as Mike Laidlaw, ML seems to be able to pacify people with humor lol.

What's funny is that we essentially created this monster within the forum. If it wasn't for how fast this thread has grown and subsequently the Tumblrs etc that increased as a result, then this wouldn't even be a frequent argument.

Yes and no. We're not the only ones talking about him being in the game, after all. That's why it's so irritating that they would let a thread keep going that's basically making fun of the fans, not the character. As folks are fond of saying, "Stay classy, BSN."

Is there a friendlier place?! If so, tell me so I can go hang out there, too

I just think, don't insult the Cullen fans. We are good people. Sheesh.

I meant within this forum, since I doubt anyone who isn't a fan of Cullen would go searching for fanfics etc about him outside of here. They're going by the size of this thread and the amount of people asking for him in seperate threads.

And, DG re-emerges on that thread...  (edited for completeness so no one gets confused or more irate than need be reading this one...)

The
amount of gushing enthusiasm over mediocre characters seems to know no
bounds here on BSN. Criticism of these characters would be far more
beneficial to you and the others you work with.

The characters
you and your other writers create are often just stereotypes with daddy
issues. Almost all of them follow that formula.

"While I'm certain that reductionism might seem like a profound insight to some, just about any character can be reduced to a stereotype (or archetype, if one prefers). There's usually a point to such analysis, rather than the analysis itself being the point.

Insofar as Cullen himself, I don't think he's a "mediocre character". He's obviously hit a chord. The only part I find interesting is that there's only so much extrapolation that can be done with what's been provided-- it's like finding a 20-page essay written about a 5-page short story.

If you feel the characters we write aren't creative enough, however, then cool. More power to ya. If that summary of yours is meant to be an invitation to that other thread, however, then I think I'll pass."

I'm chuckling a little, because I could easily write a twenty page paper on a five page short story xD The life of an academic ... we will write it, but will anyone want to read it?! Probably not lol

In other news, that sounds more positive and pro-Cullen fan....

I guess he has a point. It must be strange seeing the theories people come up with about such a minor character. Plus a fan thread not far off hitting 1000 lol.

Honestly, as an amateur writer, I would be immensely honored if a 1000 page thread popped up celebrating a minor character I'd written.
