Sometimes...I swear DG is hinting that Cullen will be a companion...

I cannot (well I can) believe how much hate that thread has in it, especially people snapping at DG about how the Bioware writers can't write good characters.

Really? I thought the complete opposite. As if to say that he's just a minor character so it's unusal for him to have such a large fanbase.

@Lola: perhaps. I just like to find reasons to think anything is a hint cause I am desperate for some, lol.

Maybe he's referring to DA:O Cullen?

I dunno. The way he was talking about how he sometimes wonders whether the Cullen fans look into his personality so much, that we end up giving him a personality that wasn't in-game at all certainly made me thinking he was refering to Cullen across both games.

I didn't get the impression he was hinting anything about the future. Just saying we're extrapolating too far for what we've seen up to this point, which apparently he doesn't think is enough for our 20pg essays. .. Yeah, still smarting a bit.

Anyhoo, maybe you've already seen, but cullypie was a the subject of a dragonageconfessions today.  http://dragonageconf...ost/32208059198

It felt like he was still baffled by his popularity. I mean, if Cullen is going to be a companion in DA3 then he would have already seen the dialogue and thus be less inclined to be baffled because he'd know that his popularity would be warranted. That being said, perhaps the personality they've got planned out for him as a companion is completely different to our theories and that's that he's hinting at?

oh most certainly. He just doesn't think the sum total screen time Cullen's had so far is enough fuel for our discussions. I think he's short changing his character... And us, frankly.

well, the confessions queue is long, so I'm thinking the confession prompted some use of the word today... Unless the confessions mods are Cullen fans... :)

I've just found the perfect post in the Cullen hate thread, that sums everything up perfectly:

"People have their characters they are obsessed with, that is why I love RPGs more than, say FPSs (most of the time). It is a product of the kind of minds that used to sit down without computers, just some dice and books and created nations, epic battles, and heroes in their heads. Or the little kids (like me) who had two dolls, some markers and some toilet paper rolls and could play with those for hours.

I play RPGs because I am a natural storyteller and writer, and have an overactive imagination that didn't get beat out of me properly through the public school system.

That is why a minor character gets a fanbase and a backstory and character trajectory in a player's head. That is why we have lore discussions and characters that groups of people are obsessed with. That is why these games inspire machima and fanfictions. These are games for storytellers like Gaider.

A character like Cullen is way more inspiring (and relatable, because of the excellent voice acting) than Space Marine #95483. And if I PERSONALLY can't relate to Cullen, there is someone else that might tug a heart string."

I think haters would do well to remember this regarding all fictional characters. DG would do well to remind himself of this too.

Agreed. DG is smart enough to not hint in any certain direction about what's going to happen in DA 3. He's sure got a lot of experience wording his responses just right to make us want to pull our hair out from over-analyzing Posted Image

Yet ;)  I think what he's marveling at is the sustained interest in Cullen. I
mean, he is and NPC, and not only has his thread not died out, but it's
grown more than some companion threads since DA2. It's grown with
discussion, and mirth, speculation, and hasn't descended in to flaming
drivel! Granted, the "Casino Royale" torture implication tweet to find
out more info on DA3 was a little ... Well it isn't hard to see why he
thinks of Cullen fans as weirdos sometimes[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png[/smilie]

David Gaider can't comment one way or the other other about Cullen's appearance in game, so I don't feel too deflated by his comments in that other thread. He's stated before that he thinks Cullen is a character that has potential when commenting on him being the "voice of reason" in Kirkwall. The fact that he said he could imagine angst in Cullen's future, and that we all know he likes writing characters that will take us on an emotional roller coaster ride, leaves me cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, you're right. I guess it's just easy to take everything as an attack what with all the arguing in the DA3 forum.

Glad to help:happy:

I wonder what I'll do when it gets closer to release though ... I definitely don't want to be spoiled. I didn't get spoiled on DA:O, and playing through that for the first time was like magic. I think I knew a bit too much about DA2 before playing it (or maybe it was just that Meridith and Orsino both flipped out no matter what you did), so I definitely don't want to do that with 3.

I'l try to come up with a new question for the thread so we can speculate until the next big announcement.

BTW, littlenikki, is is way too late to consider getting on that decloaking project?
