Well looks like the "Tone romances down" thread has a new brat throwing a tantrum... =/ I don't agree with OP but OP didn't attack anyone or call names or add any kind of criteria for why their opinion is "better" than another.

What happened? Did it get locked?

It's not locked yet but if this continues, I expect it will be.

This is the comment I find offensive:

"Don't freaking play the game then, christ. I don't want them to "tone
down" the romance. So how about it? Will they listen to one whiny fan or
to the majority?

PS. Who seems to have only ME2 added."

I don't agree with the OP but I also think this **** is out of line. <_<

You know Parmida's signature got me thinking what if in DA 3 Cullen can romance a mage, but because specializations will mean more this time round (in the story) that he won't romance a blood mage no matter what?

The same could be said for certain other companions. A mage companion can't romance a templar while maybe a moral companion can't romance an assassin or something.

I think that would be great. As soon as you pick the blood mage specialization, Cullen suddenly has the break up conversation with you.

Maker nooo!!!!!

I wonder if it'll be a conversation with companions again? I kind of hope it'll be a quest that sort of intergrates itself into the main story. So for the majority of the game maybe you don't have a specialization because you don't like how you get it or it disagrees with your companion, twould be cool imo

Yeah, you know, I just realized I slipped back into DA:O-style romance, didn't I? I would like to have an automatic reaction wherever I was, though, instead of having to wait til I happened to drop by his house.

Also, I like the idea that he doesn't like the *way* you get the specialization, so that's why he breaks up with you on the spot.

"Hello, my  name is Knight-Captain Cullen, you killed that blood mage for his power, prepare to cry."

Ah, rats. I wonder if this is just what happens when they're NOTHING new to discuss. People discuss each other instead of the game...

Apparently the second part of the Dragon Age "Those Who Speak" comics comes out tomorrow. Anyone buying it? Let me know if they kill Alistair or one of the others off. Also, let me know if Alistair shags/falls in love with anyone that isn't the Warden!

Hey, skip back a few pages and I was trying to get back to, I think, your idea about how Cullen may have difficulty caring for an individual over the group...? I thought that was something you had talked about once upon a time...

Okay, I will look! Actually though the only thing I have said about Cullen as far as head canon is how he is a conflicted person, how being a templar is part of his identity, and how that conflicts with what his heart tells him, yadda yadda yadda.

And also that I wanna touch him in his special place.

That would be cool. I actually wonder if maybe when Cullen finds out you're a blood Mage he'll leave the party. Or maybe you can mind thrall him to stop him leaving.

Agreed. I thought that the bloodmage thing might be a "crisis" situation for him because it wasn't only demons doing horrible things in Kinloch Hold ... if you could make him stay by using blood mage mind control, that would be SO cruel. I'm sure some people would really enjoy playing that way, but I could never do that. It would be his worst fears realized :crying:

*edit* I actually liked the crisis situations that tested your companions loyalty, and beliefs. I didn't really experience it in DA2 though. It was strange having fenris all "I hate mages", or anders with the "Templars are all oppressive scum", and yet they didn't care enough to leave me. Yeah, people are too hard on Cullen for not realizing that Hawke was a mage. Everyone was pretty dense in their own way :D

Lol.

I want to read it but I'm not. Not until this whole volume comes out and I can buy it all together as a hardcover. At least they come out pretty quickly so I don't have to wait that long.

It would certainly add to the dynamic but the problem I see with my little mechanic is that it would sort of be punishing the players for making a certain choice. I mean I could live with that, but others will feel like they're being forced into playing a certain way.

I mean I think if you choose one of the more questionable specializations you should have some reaction i.e. Templar, Blood Mage, Assassin getting on the nerves of a companion but maybe they also offer up another way of gaining the specialization.

Like instead of killing that person for their blood magic I learn more self-inflicting non-demon blood magic.

If they kill Izzy I might...just die :crying:

On a more humorous note I think this is what romancing Cassandra is like

Hmm, I guess I don't see it as a punishment instead of a consequence... you do bad stuff, you turn to the dark side. Don't wanna go to the darkside, don't do bad stuff. But inevitably, I'm sure folks would complain.

I like your idea of having a workaround. Sorta how the companions might side against you in the Last Straw, but if your approvals are high enough, they come back around. But at least so long as they acknowledge it.

Yeah, I will, and I will. :)  I just can't be patient! I truly doubt Alistair will be shagging anyone tho. Just can't imagine them going there since they seem to already have made a point of being as vague as possible about as many things as possible (such as who he's married to). Guess we'll see.

So... while I have you all here, I've been thinking again about Cullen's last name and backstory. I think it would be superfun for everyone to come up with an idea for what his backstory actually is. Even if you think he's a Chantry foundling with no familyname/parents, he still came from somewhere, right? How did he lose them? Why'd he end up at the Chantry? If he isn't a ward, who are his parents? We know he's Fereldan, but are they? How did he get recruited? If he had a lastname, what would it be?

I still think that would be a fun challenge to hear everyone's ideas. We had talked about doing it for a page celebration, but really we could do it anytime. And, it doesn't have to be a story, just a description.

Whaddya all think??

There's a nice article at greywardens.com about possible companions for DA3. Cullen only gets a brief mention since they've done a separate article just on him. But a couple ideas I haven't heard bandied about.

OMG ... this sucks lol It's basically Cullen, a bunch of girls, and a fugly guy. Written like a straight dude!

Shhhh that's my secret non-canon Cullen pairing :bandit:

"written like a straight dude!" moto you slay me!!:lol:

Totally written like a straight dude. All this "pack the party with females" carp would be depressing if I thought for a moment that they'd do it. BioWare is better than that about gender balance.

And I think that was me, talking about how Cullen might have difficulty thinking about people as individuals rather than as a group.
