Hey, skip back a few pages and I was trying to get back to, I think, your idea about how Cullen may have difficulty caring for an individual over the group...? I thought that was something you had talked about once upon a time...Okay, I will look! Actually though the only thing I have said about Cullen as far as head canon is how he is a conflicted person, how being a templar is part of his identity, and how that conflicts with what his heart tells him, yadda yadda yadda.
And also I wanna touch him in his special place.
Ahahaha thanks xDD

But seriously I think he'd be heart broken, and asks you a lot of questions and then there will be fighting and such.

So... while I have you all here, I've been thinking again about Cullen's last name and backstory. I think it would be superfun for everyone to come up with an idea for what his backstory actually is. Even if you think he's a Chantry foundling with no familyname/parents, he still came from somewhere, right? How did he lose them? Why'd he end up at the Chantry? If he isn't a ward, who are his parents? We know he's Fereldan, but are they? How did he get recruited? If he had a lastname, what would it be?
I still think that would be a fun challenge to hear everyone's ideas. We had talked about doing it for a page celebration, but really we could do it anytime. And, it doesn't have to be a story, just a description.
Whaddya all think??
Sounds good to me... although I've completely forgotten the original idea I had for it lol.

I actually find it sad. It reflects poorly on all of us. I also didn't
say anything untrue. Name calling, superiority complex justification and
vitirol are in some of these posts, rather than actual discussion. It's
been my experience that the Devs and mods shut down such threads that
turn down this path. Stating what I think is obvious is not a reliable
indicator of how thick my skin is.
Edit: Very true Maria. It's unfortunate.I rather like discussing video games.

So, what do you think Cullen's reaction would be if you resorted to blood magic in order to save his life? Like perhaps he's suffering real bad with lyrium withdrawal and cure somehow involved it, or he's about to get killed by someone but your mage protagonist summons blood magic. putting herself/himself at risk to save his life.
I think he would protest and start spewing Chantry rubbish, but he would not do this out of faith, but out of fear. He would be terrified on a sub-prime level, you know? But he'd mask it with barking commands at the PC to keep his/her filthy blood magic to him/herself. But if this were a LI, I think he would give in, eventually, especially if it were a life or death situation.
Then he'd angst about it for the remainder of the game. And there would be all this lovely Kaiden-y bullsh!t of him being all, "But how can I ever trust you again?" and the PC just being all patient because s/he knows that if s/he just waits long enough, that ass is hers/his again.

Yeah, that's what I like to think would happen. Like he may even up and leave if he was romancing you. You could protest and explain all you like but he'd be scared and freaking out. Then later on he'd come back to return the favor and save you then apologise for freaking out etc.

Yeah. It's a shame because it doesn't contribute to the discussion at all and just risks the topic being closed.

I don't know. I think he would be vehemently against it. I think he would ask you to let him die rather than to resort to blood magic, tbh. At least during the moment where you would have to choose. I can imagine him yelling at the PC later like Alistair after sacrificing Isolde.

Oooo yeah I could see that happening. Tbh I'd risk blood magic than let him die, even if he did go ape sh!t at me later, it would be worth it to save him. Plus, that would kick me right in the feels if he upped and left regardless of the fact that you just saved the ungrateful sod. I like it!

Tough question.
I see it ending the friendship/relationship. While he'd likely be grateful to be alive, he'd never be able to look at that person again without thinking "Blood Mage" and remembering his torture, I think. I'm sure he'd be able to look a good friend in the eye and tell them it's over, and part ways amicably, but he'd probably feel more betrayed it it was someone who he'd let himself trust.
As for circumstances, if it involved demons, OVER.
If it involved murder, even of a villain, OVER. My thought here is that the protagonist would have, in essence become as bad as the villain, possibly resorting to their methods. (kinda like how I felt about Orsino going crazy in DA2, even though we were winning, lol)
If it was purely the sacrifice of the mage, he'd find it a hard pill to swallow. The blood magic would put him off majorly, but I think that his survivor's guilt would kick in, in that scenareo. Why should the protagonist have been harmed instead of him, he's failed his friend/lover, failed in his duty as a protector etc ...
Those are my initial thoughts, anyway.

I honestly believe the boy would lose his mind and leave your party... after he tried to kill you. If he was your LI, maybe he'd show up again later just to save your butt as repayment but then give you that heart wrenching "How could you?" look and leave again without a word.

@Samara: you're being attacked? Gah, that sucks, I feel bad for ya.
Hi everyone ^.^
Sort of. When someone called the OP of the thread whiny and said they just shouldn't play the game and then added that the OP only had one game registered to heir name, I called it out. I didn't name names or naything specific. I just said that I see that the name calling, superiority complex justification and vitriol have started flowing and that lockdown would probably be coming soon.
I didn't quote anybody or point them out. But OP was getting a lot of flack for asking a question that, while a touch rude, was still a valid gameplay topic that could be debated and sooo many people were being mean. But for my rather innocuous comment, people started telling me "You must be new here" or to "Grow a thicker skin."
I have replied to them and thus far, they seem unable to continue with me. Except Maria Caliban. She's the one who told me I "must be new". After a little back and forth, I think we've moved past whatever that was and are having a discussion about the game. And that's all I wanna do, really. Is discuss the game. It's a bummer that we can't seem to do that without it devolving into a p!ss!ng contest.

I think it maybe would depend on where you got the blood and/or life-force to save him..
If he/she uses his/her own blood then maybe he will forgive the act and he might even love his lover more!
