I think it maybe would depend on where you got the blood and/or life-force to save him..

Yeah! that's a very interesting idea.
If he/she uses his/her own blood then maybe he will forgive the act and he might even love his lover more!

Maybe it'd be awkward for awhile, like he'd avoid the protagonist for some time to clear his head and think about it. Then one night confront the character and if the right dialogue is chosen he would forgive them.

So... while I have you all here, I've been thinking again about Cullen's last name and backstory. I think it would be superfun for everyone to come up with an idea for what his backstory actually is. Even if you think he's a Chantry foundling with no familyname/parents, he still came from somewhere, right? How did he lose them? Why'd he end up at the Chantry? If he isn't a ward, who are his parents? We know he's Fereldan, but are they? How did he get recruited? If he had a lastname, what would it be?

I still think that would be a fun challenge to hear everyone's ideas. We had talked about doing it for a page celebration, but really we could do it anytime. And, it doesn't have to be a story, just a description.

Whaddya all think??

I was looking back over all the romances in both DA games and for me personally, I found Alistair's to be the most rewarding. Not due to his personality/looks, but the pacing (if you don't cheat by using the feastday gifts lol.) I liked how for the first few quests you couldn't actually flirt with him, leaving you time to get to him as character first, then gradually more flirt options opens up over time and he'll start to confide in you about his past etc. I'd like to see that return in DA3.

You know, guys, I think for me that a big part of Cullen's character or what I'm hoping to see from him is growth. That is one of the mild disappointments I had with the Fenris romance (my favorite/canon romance for my Hawke). Although Fenris can accept a lover who is a mage, he never really confronts his own personal demons in regards to magic. During The Last Straw, he expresses displeasure at throwing his lot in with the mages, despite the fact that this is really the only moral choice. This is not to say that Fenris should have done a complete 180 and should have been chanting "FREEDOM FOR MAGES" or anything (actually, that would have been kind of fantastic, especially since in order for him to do that, he'd have to be dead drunk, and so he'd probably be running through the streets of Kirkwall in his underwear while saying it). But just that there should have been some growth there.

Similarly, I would want to see some growth from Cullen. I think DA2 already took him down that path. I hope it continues with DA3, and I hope every mention of blood magic wouldn't take him back to that moment in the Circle Tower. Note: Not that I agree with blood magic, but it's not about what I agree with, but rather that I'd like to see Cullen evolve past this blind fear and hatred.

I'm actually trying to currently cheat my way through my first Alistair romance xD I can change my character's gender, and am hoping that if I make him female for one or two conversations with Alistair that this will trigger the romance. Does anyone know all of Alistair's triggering lines?

I hope that returns as well. It felt like so much more than in DA2 where you pick one flirt option amd its a done deal. I also love how in DA:O they addressed you differently the closer you got to them. I also hope they return the whole guess-work when speaking to a companion where you had to say the right things rather than choosing the option with the heart..

Yes. I really felt this was missing from DA2. I wanted to get to know everyone more before deciding wether to flirt. Also, I was a big fan of the chatting in between quests. Also, MotoMotogirl is right. Cullen could have so much awesome character development happen in the next game. Let's hope they make the most of it:happy: (and pace it well)

That's another thing that I missed, asking for the companions opinions between each quest to see what their thoughts and reactions were regarding it/your actions and how they would have gone about it.

I know DG said they wouldn't be adding more romance to the game than what's already there, but I hope that they'll make the most of the air time it actually gets this time round.

Sounds good to me... although I've completely forgotten the original idea I had for it lol.

Sounds good, although I might turn mine into a story. Something Cullen overhears while he and the (male) imaginary protagonist of DA3 overhear while poking around looking for clues about something else.

Edit: Gotta find some way to turn that 5-page short story into a 20-page essay, you know!

So, what do you think Cullen's reaction would be if you resorted to blood magic in order to save his life? Like perhaps he's suffering real bad with lyrium withdrawal and cure somehow involved it, or he's about to get killed by someone but your mage protagonist summons blood magic. putting herself/himself at risk to save his life.

I don't know. I think he would be vehemently against it. I think he would ask you to let him die rather than to resort to blood magic, tbh. At least during the moment where you would have to choose. I can imagine him yelling at the PC later like Alistair after sacrificing Isolde.

Oooo yeah I could see that happening. Tbh I'd risk blood magic than let him die, even if he did go ape sh!t at me later, it would be worth it to save him. Plus, that would kick me right in the feels if he upped and left regardless of the fact that you just saved the ungrateful sod. I like it!

I think he would need to take some time to himself and rethink his whole belief system. He might realise that the world is filled with a lot more grey than he had originally assumed. It's not so simple as Blood Magic = bad, most of the time it is, but this time it would make him think about the whole kit and kaboodle.

Just because Blood Magic tends to be evil doesn't mean that the templars are necessarily good because they oppose it and just because Andraste was supposed to be a good person doesn't mean her followers have done her justice in the intervening years.

I think Cullen would let quite a bit of it slide most of the time, but if it was used for evil he would probably leave the group or try and kill you.

I've always thought blood magic was considered evil, not because you have to deal with a demon, but because you have to use a death or at least a lot of life energy to draw that kind of insane power from the Fade, so it made the Veil thinner every time you used it. Eventually demons would be able to just break through without needing to possess a mage. The stigma of it comes from it being a demon who showed the first blood mage what to do. Or at least, that's what I think/remember...

For this reason, I can't see Cullen being okay with any kind of blood magic. But that's me. ^_^

In other news, I totally feel like DG is my knight in shining armor right now. :D To the guy who told me to "grow a thicker skin", he said...

Yeah I've kinda missed that from most of the recent BW games, is that thing where I could turn to Carth or Mission and have them say something like, "Er why do that, you dum dum, me no like you now!"  or just remark on the area we've entered but in a cutscene format.

I have so many ideas! And some I'm going to use in stories. But one I've had that I haven't done anything with that anyone can use if they want to (just gonna say that upfront, I don't care) is that Cullen is the cast off child of a mage family from Tevinter because he was born without magic. They were in the Anderfels, for whatever reason, when he was born and the magisters, using some sort of talisman, checked for magical talent and left him with another family because he wasn't a mage like them or sisters. They're actually good, decent people and they worried about their first son being accepted by their extended family and the Tevinter society and feared he'd wind up a slave some day. So it was easier to claim his mother lost the baby and leave him with a couple who had helped them or something and who said they'd take care of him.

Later, he decided to join the templars after witnessing a group of knights protect people from a bad mage but also protect another mage that was there and had surrendered from the townspeople. :D His adoptive parents eventually died during a hard winter, a fact he feels responsible for since his Templar pay wasn't enough for him to send a larger stipend for them to live on. As such he's always been driven to be the best templar he can be so that he can take care of those he cares about.

Even though, there's really no one he calls a family... but that he's always trying to make for himself out of his fellow knights and charges at the Circle :( But then Uldred came and ruined it all... :crying:

I think old gods were the first to share Blood Magic though I may be wrong. As to the rest I guess I'll just add a, that to, but then again in regards to my Hawke (I know it doesn't really matter what I DO but hear me out :P) I tend to onlyuse Blood Magic as a last resort and never on my allies. So I tend to sacrifice my own life energy or that of my enemy's life (who I know is gonna die regardless) but sort of restrict it when it comes to everyday affairs. It's sort of a last resort and I can see Cullen being against it but not so vehemently that he's about to kill you. There was also a thread where I read that you don't always need a demon to learn it, for example Jowan I believe didn't consort with a demon, but he did read books regarding it.

Hey guys!!  Posted Image

I think the biggest reason that blood magic is  banned (though learning it from Old Gods, having it be super powerful, and having that power potentially come from helpless victims are pretty big-time) is the whole mind domination thing. Both Lambert and Evangeline say so multiple times in the "Asunder" novel.  Posted Image

Also @ motomotogirl - you can probably find them in the DA wiki, but honestly they're really easy to figure out without help or icons. Just become good friends with him - be kind, maybe joke around with him a few times, and voila! I actually like the romance better if you choose not to initiate it (by saying "Has anyone ever told you how handsome you are?"). If you wait and you're friends, he'll do the initial tentative flirting and it is SO much better than you making the first move!!!  Posted Image

Really? What does he say if you leave him to flirt first?
