I just wanted to take a quick second to say very strongly that no one here in this thread should ever feel bullied, cornered, picked on, or anything but awesome for showing support for your favorite character. Ever. Don't let anyone ever try to make you feel stupid or idiotic for waving a banner. Embrace your inner fangirl and show your pride- there's been a lot of fangirl hate on these boards recently and not a single one of us should feel anything but ridiculously awesome for not caring a fig what stupid people think of us. BE PROUD of who you are and what you like and let haters be haters.

Preach it! ^_^

Wow... now I feel like I have to say something really profound in order to follow Avejajed... Add that to brush pointing out how we've been objectifying Cullen of late.

Hmm..

My name is R2s Muse and my favorite character in DA is Knight-Captain Cullen.
My favorite scene is in DA2 when the mages surrender, he tells us what he thinks being a templar is about and tells not-yet-crazy Meredith she's wrong.
My biggest hope for him being a companion in DA3 is that I get to talk with him on a personal level, character to character, instead of about saving the world, mages, or templars.

If people can't grasp the concept that we're just having a laugh with the silly pictures and the oogling, then that's their problem. It wouldn't matter if we were have deep and meaningful conversations about quantum physics in here, the fact that we're a big fan of a fiction character labels us as brainless air heads.

Well, half of the attitude is just plain ole sexism, which like in any gamer community, is alive and well at BSN.

OK Lola, your turn!  It's like an AA meeting!  Or is that CA? Cullenlovers Anonymous? Let's get some positivity!

My name is brushyourteeth and I too love Cullen (though Aveline is my favorite).
My new favorite Cullen scene is when Cullen cracks his only joke in the game (as LolaLei first pointed out - so all credit to her!) about how the Templar recruits can be as bad as a weaving circle with their rumors, and that the most dangerous ritual they face is falling asleep during their first vigil. Hilariously dry - and earnest. I don't think he even knew he was being funny - like he'd look confused if you laughed.
My biggest hope for him being a companion in DAIII is that he'll be the level-headed, neutral guy with some control over his emotions. Which is something we definitely could use in the coming war. He's equal parts dedicated and compassionate. I respect that.

Just started a new DAO character because I wanna go over all the possible Cullen lines again. And see about a... certain epilogue... I hate when I just get set up only to have to put it down! Curse you hunger! *shakes fist*

Hi, my name is meanieweenie and I'm Cullen positive.
My favorite Cullen scene is when he says "You'll have to go through me" because it fills a deep burning hole in my psyche that needs to be saved, while simultaneously allowing me to save myself.
My biggest hope for him as a companion is that he will be the voice of reason in a world of strife and mayhem - and that he won't be a blind "duty" driven maniac. Please, dear Maker... let him think for himself.

hehehe... Sorry. =D It's me. You know me. I just started a new DAO playthrough and updated the Warden.

In other news: I feel a little bad for that chick who said that sexist line about female bioware gamers. She seems to genuinely feel like she's being kicked. Her initial post, while she may have meant it good fun did set off a few people, myself included though I tried to be nice about it. Now that she's decided to leave the forum, what she's saying now would have been better served as her first comment. I don't like it when people think I'm mean.

I presumed it was a guy being sexist.

Okay, question for you guys:
Can't remember if it's in Act 1 (it probably is) or Act 2, but when you talk with Cullen in the Gallows and choose the kind of "mages aren't the bad guys" dialogue option, Cullen answers with something like "Most people would probably agree with you. The plight of the oppressed mage is a popular image."

Do you think that's actually true, and the mages have more sympathy from the common folk that we've realized, or do you think that's just coming from the perspective of a Templar who's used to being criticized for doing his job?

And if he's aware of how some people think the mages are being abused, doesn't that also kind of make him aware that the Gallows mages are being mistreated? You'd think he'd be on the lookout for it if he understood popular opinion, right?

I suspect that they probably did... right up until Anders blew up the Chantry and they all rebelled.

I also suspect that they hadn't anticipated that Cullen's character would end up getting dissected so often by fans and haters alike. Had they realised, they probably would have gone into more detail about how much he did or didn't know/do surrounding the Gallows seedy dealings etc.

You were not being mean. Nor was anyone else warning her not to make insulting generalizations about female fans and what they like. Your post was right on. And, eloquent, as you always are.

Honestly, it's a shame she feels bad, but what she said was dumb. She was "othering" fangirls who "only"  like romance and have Cullen banner, and then she's making sh!t up and calling them "facts." Doesn't matter is she's a girl. Girls have gender bias, too.

I think there could be a  point where we all get too aggro about anyone saying anything about fangirls... but I don't think we're there yet.
