Well, I plan to play a mage protagonist first so if he is a romancable companion there's a chance that he'd refuse to date my character at all... or it could possibly end badly for them lol. However, if he's willing to date a mage then I'd do a friendmance first, then do a rivalmance on another playthrough.

I doubt being a mage would limit the choice of a romance, though the result of it might differ as you've said. Especially if they're planning on putting more emphasis on your class storywise. I usually play rogues, but I might be tempted to try a mage first if it adds some exclusive dialogue with a Cullen centric relationship.

I'm trying to prepare myself for disappointment, just in case he refuses to date one lol.

Aww Posted Image Well, there's always the blood magic option! Who needs free will anyway? Posted Image

In my ideal romance arc with Cullen, is that he'd end up falling for the mage protagonist but things wouldn't run too smoothly for them, with the prospect of them being kept apart from each other due to duty, until Cullen pulls an Evangeline stunt and tells the Order to go screw themselves lol.

Me neither, it sucks!

Btw, in that pic where's he's pulling that face, what did Meredith say to provoke that reaction?

It's right after you first confront her in the gallows right before the final fight. Here is the full uncropped screencap.

Although now that I'm trying to find a video of this part, he doesn't make this face? I was playing a pro-mage ending with a charming mage Hawke (the videos I'm finding choose the diplomatic option at this point). I don't know.

Here's a video of it:  around :25

I wonder what she means when she says "idiot boy, just like all the others"

That look on Cullen's face when Meredith says "I bear you no ill will, you've done this to yourself", seems like already he's not happy with the decision to have Hawke arrested and that was before she orders him to kill her. I get the impression that he's realised by that point that she was completely mental.

I return bearing news!

There will be random kissing! This is confirmed WoG.

Either way, my personal leaning is to move the companions to somewhere inbetween-- not the minor quest of DAO or the three quests of DA2, but something in the middle-- and put more content back into the personal dialogues. We have some things (things!) planned which actually make that more economical for us, which is nice and allows us more options. And, yes, random kissing and so forth too (since that appears to be a thing, and doesn't really cost us much to do-- so there's one feature I can say did indeed come from the forums).

Since his facial expression seems to vary depending on how Hawke responds (diplomatic, charming, etc), I feel like he might have been waiting to see Meredith's reactions to Hawke's particular comment here: "I imagine you've been wanting to be rid of me for some time." and possibly realizes that Meredith had no intention of arresting Hawke to begin with -- instead having planned Hawke's execution all along (and perhaps the entire mess to begin with, planning a final bloody confrontation with the mages with or without Anders' push).

I'm not sure if any of that made sense since I'm so tired right now (yet unable to sleep).

Yeah, I've been watching his reactions to Meredith in the scenes leading up to that, and I think it's a bit of a lost opportunity that even though Meredith was already threatening Hawke, he's blank.  It's funny, I've replayed the first confrontation with Meredith & Orsino and the last with Meredith and Cullen so many times I'd completely forgotten until recently that there's one in between when Meredith first arrives at the Gallows. Cullen is there, hears Meredith say Hawke with share the mage's fate (pro-mage), and he doesn't bat an eye at that point. Still processing that part.

I'd put that down to a time limit making it feel rushed etc.

That is my suspicion, at least on the expressions and such. Still trying to figure out what he would be thinking at that point. Indeed, when Meredith barrels through the doors of the Gallows and templars start killing everyone inside... you know he was there too, even if we didn't see him. I guess it's easier to kill a mage who is actively fighting you. At that point, Orsino had officially rallied the mages, and anyone who walked through that door was gonna get dead if they didn't fight.

I'll have to go read that part again to really recall why I thought that. I liked her and what she was trying to do. But that scene where they all go see her together... I was kinda surprised at how, I dunno, not on their side, she seemed. Not sure if that makes sense. I mean, I wasn't expecting hugs and kisses, but as I was reading it, I sorta worried that she'd like, allow them to be thrown in the dungeon or something. I'll have to go back...

Was that the scene in the Grand Cathedral where she scolded Wynne for sending the message to the Circles (secretly on her orders, but she had to seem like she disapproved), approved the enchanters' conclave, and then made the pro-mage speech that made Adrian cry?

LOL yes...

Edit: you know... Maybe it was the scolding. I've still only read the whole thing through the one time. So I probably didn't know yet that it was on her orders. Or did I at that point? Anyhoo, I guess I expected some more overt support from her. She was very poker face. Again, I'll have to go read it again.

Yeah, Wynne and Rhys have this conversation about how she's really stepped in it by alerting all the Circles, and Wynnne just laughs at him and essentially says "Oh, my dear boy. Of course you wouldn't know. It's the Divine who told me to alert the Circles under Lambert's nose!"

Which reminds me -- Justinia has one of those communication stones that all the First Enchanters also have, and the Seekers don't know a thing about it. Has she been communicating with them on the sly? Making promises? Forming alliances? Hmm...

That almost makes me want to write my first fanfic.

I didn't think the communicating stones were a secret, were they?

WooHoo! Really excited for this. I'd do it just to cheer myself up if my game was going badly. Also, I loved mixing up the party to see everyone's reactions<3 I loved seeing Morigan's reaction to kissing Alistair just as much as his reaction to my PC kissing her:lol: Good times ...

I will get to experience "random kissing" for the first time soon xD I've tricked Alistair into thinking my elf is a girl ... which I kind of feel bad about b/c he keeps calling him a woman LOL My poor elf is having a gender identity crisis now.

Hey guys just wanted to pop in and ask your opinions on a DA2 quest since I'm doing my "Set up everything for DA 3" playthrough (I know kind of early but the last time I waited I was held back a week and couldn't play until that and some articles I had to write were done).

Anyway the quest was Finders Keepers and I was wondering if there was a RIGHT choice (iyo). Normally I tend to just let him have the poison since there is no indication that it's used for ebil...except for the fact that it's poison I suppose. However Aveline tends to be the voice of reason/good in the mixed bag of nuts that is my crew and I do value her opinion when it comes to several moral issues.

However over the years Hawke has made friends with some...sordid characters and even has a poison guy (Tomwise the elf in Darktown) so I was wondering what you all thought?

Hmmmm Danny well that depends on your Hawke. I've only had one Hawke that was kind of uppity about that kind of thing. But all my other Hawke's are pretty carefree and were like, whatever dude lol Now where's my shop discount :'D lol

A bigger decision for me is whether to let Isabela have her ship. If my Hawke romances Fenris, he NEVER lets her have it because, wow. He has been touched by Fenris' story and thinks someone who deals in slaves needs to DIE. But Hawke's who romance Anders or Isabela don't feel as strongly about the issue. Liara Hawke, Isabela's girlfriend, will obviously do whatever makes Isabela happy.
