So, next question Ladies! (The others are gonna have a lot to catch up on later!)
What is everyone's thoughts on Lyrium addiction? Do you believe that the Chantry give Templar's lyrium in order to keep their hold on them since it's addictive? How long do you think it takes for the addiction to kick in? Can a Templar survive without lyrium if they choose to go cold turkey or would it drive them mental? What are the long term effects of lyrium on the body?
I actually worry about Cullen and the possibility of his lyrium addiction becoming problematic. It would be awesome to see the effects of lyrium withdrawl happening to him in camp though, I could just imagine our PC being woken up in the middle of the night to the sounds of cursing and belongings being thrown around, getting up to investigate she finds Cullen panicking, ransacking his tent looking for his vial as the lack of lyrium in his blood starts to take effect and our PC has to try and calm him down or stroke his hair and soothe him (if you're romancing him) until he falls asleep after he's finally taken his dose. It's horrible to think that one day he'll end up like that old Templar we met back in Ferelden outside the Chantry who's mind had completely gone.
... Hm, that's a thought. What will the Templars do about their lyrium now that they've broken away from the Chantry, since it's the Chantry that controls the lyrium supply from the Dwarfs. Even on the black market they'd never be able to acquire enough to sustain a whole army for long.
That's something to ponder. Here's what the wiki says re: the Chantry:
"Lyrium is used by the Chantry to control the templars: templars are given lyrium to "develop their talents" (though Alistair seems to doubt whether it actually has any real effect), which also leaves them addicted and thus within the control of the Chantry, which controls the lyrium trade."
And here's what the codex says on prolonged use:
"Lyrium has its costs, however. Prolonged use becomes addictive, the cravings unbearable. Over time, templars grow disoriented, incapable of distinguishing memory from present, or dream from waking. They frequently become paranoid as their worst memories and nightmares haunt their waking hours. "
Unless the Templars made some kind of deal with the dwarves to get thier lyrium directly, I guess they'd be screwed. I can only suppose that withdrawl would be complete anguish - like trying to kick heroine.
Uh-oh, Cullen's gonna be well and truly ****ed then! The **** he's experienced is gonna come back and haunt him something rotten when he's older! I hope we can get him off it, before it's too late.
