LOL MMG, it's definitely not you! I think it's one part fatigue and one part DA3 forum distraction. There's really nothing new to talk about in the DA3 forums, but with so much dev interaction it's sorta addicting, I think. LOL Like talking to cool kids and also watching particularly mesmerizing train wrecks in the periodic drama that pops up.

Personally, despite how many times we've talked about it, I'm still not sure what to think about templars and their lyrium habit. We keep thinking of it like drug addiction, that you have ongoing extreme highs and lows that affect your day-to-day behavior, but I'm starting to wonder if it's more like being addicted to caffeine. Your body expects it every day, and if you have it, you're basically fine and go about your day. You skip it a day or two, you get a headache. Skip it for longer and with lyrium, you start to go into major withdrawal that ultimately leads to pain and insanity.

Yes, the impression I got was that lyrium did not provide a "high" at all. Maybe it makes the user temporarily more aware of his or her surroundings or something, but for the most part, it's taken to fuel abilities. Rather like caffeine.

Maybe it's like nicotine. I know from first-hand experience that smoking tobacco doesn't have any pleasant physical effect, but giving it up is *torture*. One day is hard. Three days is nigh impossible. And even once you do quit, the smell of someone else smoking brings back the cravings all over again, no matter how many years have passed since your last cigarette. And there's always somebody who says "I don't know what you're complaining about. I smoked two packs a day for twenty years, threw the pack away, and haven't given it a second thought since."

I've never been addicted to anything, so it's hard to relate. But maybe it is similar to a diabetic needing her insulin shots. Her body needs them to function. Templars start to need lyrium just to function, or else their body will begin to rebel.

Oh and thanks guys xD I thought I had just bored everyone away with my obsession about armor LOL

I need more DA3-related distractions ... my current project is boring me to tears and I'm already so tired... can't seem to focus.

Hmm, that might be an even better analogy. I'm headcanoning that even if you can get over your lyrium addiction, if you were to encounter it, it would still "sing" to you.

LOL I know what you mean. My head feels like it's stuff with cotton today, even tho number one son didn't crawl into my bed until 5:45am today! Tea's not helping.

Are we going through DA3-news withdrawal??  :D

LOL I love that 5:45 is "not that early" for you :-o I had to wake up at 8:30 and I'm just about dead.

Comic Con is in a week or two. They'll probalby tell us something then. Maybe they'll tell us something about the protagonist.

I will second this anaolgy. It's been years since I quit smoking and I still get random cravings out of the blue and I still dream about it. It sucks but at least I can now climb a set of stairs without having to stop for a breather. LOL

Does anybody else find it challenging to write Cullen's response to flattery? It always seems to come down to some combination of cluelessness, embarrassment, or misinterpretation, and I'm afraid that's going to get old after a while.

Well it is part of who he is. I don't tire of it... only if it is badly written!

I'm not a writer but I can imagine it's not easy. Maybe dialog could be replaced with him giving an odd look. It could be interpreted in many ways. Like maybe he's just trying to figure out why your PC would compliment him in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestions! I can add "blank astonishment" and "confusion" to the rotation. XD

Since this is for the interactive dialogue series, odd looks will probably work well. Body-swapped Hawke, especially sarcastic Hawke, has a lot of those to draw from.

So I was just thinking about the Orlesian Civil War and how Empress Celene could be likened to Queen Elizabeth I and how the Inquisition could be an unofficial arm of her faction or be her "spies" and the Inquisitor her Sir Wallsingham (sp). It could mean that Grand Duke Gaspard is either Mary Queen of Scots/King Charles of Spain or maybe even Napolean (who disliked religious intolerance and sort of used his circumstances to raise his standing while making himself the French Emperor).

That's an interesting connection, I can see the Inquisition being a bit like Elizabeth and Walsingham. I've always gotten a vibe of the unrest in Orlais being similar to the French Religious Wars of the 16th Century as well.

THIS IS NOT NEWS. NOTHING IS PROMISED, only acknowledged.

berelinde wrote...

If you did, you would simply *have* to put in an option to pause dialogue on all platforms. There is literally nothing worse than having to replay the exact same conversation five times because each time you tried to sit down to play through it, your spouse/partner/parent/child/other-non-ignorable-person walked in and wanted to have a chat.

Allan Schumacker wrote...

I think conversation/cutscene pause should be added regardless of what we do with saves :P (it is a logged user story so it's definitely a tracked goal for DA3)
Translation: NOTHING PROMISED, but they know and it's something they consider worthwhile. The emphasis is there as acknowledgement that some things that are desired wind up not working out in the finished product. It happens. Still, it makes me absolutely giddy with happiness to know that I may one day hear an entire game conversation without missing parts because I had to yell "I'm in the middle of something, hon! I'll be right there!" into the next room every three seconds until the dialogue was over.

I know that the console versions have mechanics in place to pause, whether it's hitting the X button, minimizing the game, or what have you, but if you do those things on the PC, the game just keeps on playing when it's minimized.

Naw, although we might get some more news/concept art at the NYCC. Apparently they have some stuff they want to reveal, but I dunno if that would be DA3 or ME3 related.
