It's shockingly easy. Be anti-blood magic and refuse to give her the... arulin holm? You know what I mean. And destroy every Evil Tome you see in her presence. Also keep in mind that if you refuse to give her the... woodworking tool, any friendship you acquired before up to 99% will be instantly converted to an equal amount of rivalry.Danny Boy 7 wrote...

I usually go the rivalry route with Merrill.
As a mage? And can I ask why? Just curious to get all the details because it seems like as a Mage it's impossible to be pro-Mage and get her as anything but a friend.

Yeah, I think maybe because I don't use her in my party that often? I usually overly rely on Anders as my main mage (other than myself) because of his healing. I'm not sure why I choose to take that route, it generally just feels in line with my Hawke trying to set her on a better path out of concern. My first ever DA2 playthrough was a Merrill friendship, however.

Lol well I meant from the mechanic standpoint but I see what you mean. I mean the Eluvian isn't a BAD thing, not inherently I think, but I don't really know enough about it to say one way or another. I mean one spread the darkspawn taint and another allowed my Warden and Morrigan to escape to safety. So part of me thinks that if she were to smash it, it'd be a bit of a waste of Marethari's life and the other thinks hat she should drop it BECAUSE of Marethari's sacrifice. I mean who knows maybe the Warden and Morrigan come across Merrill one day.

I love you berelinde...I had totally forgotten that. I've been pineing over what I would do and this sounds fantastic. I might get her really close and then not give her the...woodworking tool (damn you elvish!). Merrill I think is one of the few character I have had a hard time choosing her fate with. But whenever I see that dev post where it says you might be a better friend if you rival someone instead I always think of her and Isabela. Though don't the comics sort of make the impression that you friended her?

She smashes it if you rival her. Says that if Marethari and her clan had listened to her that they would still be alive if you friended her.

No regardless of whether you help her or not (just like Anders) Merrill keeps working on the eluvian and Marethari dies.

Damn. Can you kick her out of the group? If you can, then do you still have to deal with the Marethari thing?

Y'know, this makes me wonder if Merrill and her mirror is actually more important than we thought. Perhaps, it'll play a part in DA3 in some way?
Merrill and her mirror can go suck it.

Been so LONG since I poked my head into the Dragon Age forums, but with Dragon Age III announced it only seems right that I roll back in for a spell. I gotta voice my love for Cullen too, 'cause he's been my favourite NPC since DA: O (along with Jowan, don't judge!) c:

LOL I always rival Merrill too, since I just can't abide her mirror nonsense. I think she's cute as a button, but dumb as a stump for continuing on that path. So I can never friend her; just never feels natural. But, I also never use her, either.Avejajed wrote...

I'm hoping the mirror is busted for good. I don't think it's a big player in the DA-verse. I think it's just a player in Merril's personal story, and so it showed up in DA2 because she did.

Welcome and stay a while! And, no worries, of all places, we don't judge character faves here. LOL
Here's hoping Greg Ellis's tweet means he's a companion!

I think there might be something to the mirrors, but I don't think they'll be the numero uno plot device. I do think there's more to learn about them and just what they connect to, though. Especially seeing what happened in the Dalish Elf Origin, the Witch Hunt DLC, and of course Merrill's personal quest.
If anyone or any object we've seen so far will be the big plot device, though, it will definitely be Flemeth... which I'm totally okay with, because I adore that woman.

Here's hoping he's a companion, an LI, and quite attached to the main plot~

Good point. The mirrors in general could be included, particularly... dun dun dun ... where they lead to. If the OGB plotline shows up at all, I suppose they could touch on that. And, Flemeth, I would never bet against her showing up again. Yup. Her and then Sandal & Bodahn, I think will be there for sure.Dirgegun wrote...

We all feel he will be, though I think he will be number three or four at most in story significance.
An example of my rating system.
1. Alistair
2. Morrigan
3. Leliana
4. Zevran
5. Wynne
6. Oghren
7. Shale
8. Sten
9. Dog
And even in that example things tend to taper off after Wynne since she has an actual effect on the game after she is recruited though in that case I may have to switch Shale with Oghren, but he also shows up in the expansion so meh.
