When was the first time that you guys felt your crush on Cullen?
I felt it in origins and it was doubled at the end of DA2.

And I gotta say it. I really, really wish they had lighted the Gallows Courtyard better in Acts 1 and 3. Every video taken there during those acts is so *dark*!

Thanks, R2! I'm going to see if there's anything in the master item list with Cullen's name on it.

FYI, I don't think the black sword is specific to him. All the templars have that at the end.

haven't checked the red one...

LOL and the red one is just a "templar" sword, too. Thrask has it, Alrik has it... LOL even Wesley has it!

Maybe the red one is standard issue and the black ones are for serious mage hacking.

LOL ... and then, in some scenes, he has black, and the other templars have red... (when the 3 mages surrender)

I think we discussed conspiracy theories once upon a time with his shiny new black sword, and then realized it was just ubiquitous.

I like to just think he's a trendsetter. He got his shiny new black sword, and all the other templars were like, Ooo!! :o

Maybe it's act-related. I know the armor is. No, I don't mean that Cullen's armor changes from act to act, but the templar recruit armor is labeled "act1" and Cullen's fancy armor is labeled "act3".

Also, how big a sign of insanity is it that we even noticed the difference?

Oh, I have a Cullen based question!

If he happens to be a companion in DAII, and we all hope he is, what do you hope his weaponry is? Do you hope he'll have the shield and sword like in DA:O or the two handed sword like in DAII?

I have to say I hope he's rocking that two handed sword. I think it would be rather badarse for him to keep that weaponry, And with some people being jerks and all "Hurr. People just like Cullen because he'll be the 'new' Alistair," I kind of want to hope Ser Cullen is as removed from Alistair as much as possible.

They are nothing really alike, in my opinion, but you know... :|

^ I agree; Alistair is sort of the loveable but dumb jock, whereas Cullen may be a jock, but he's the smart one who also got valedictorian and is now playing football at an Ivy League school or something lol Meanwhile, Alistair got his girlfriend pregnant and is trying to earn his degree at the local community college.... and he's totally happy and okay with this life!

I'm hoping Cassandra will be a rogue so Cullen can be the warrior... both of them as warriors seems odd. I kind of prefer S&S because the huge two-handed swords look a bit silly.

I love that discription for the two.

Well I recently watched the movie and, granted I don't know how canon it is, I will definitely say Cassandra has great rogue potential watching that.

Well, I can't help but say something annoying... but actually he was two handing in Origins and sword & board in DA2. :P Frankly, I sorta feel like the shield is iconic, so I think I'd prefer they stay with that.

Sword and board was great in Origins (and 2H was sluggish and kinda not worth it), and naturally, Cullen was a 2-hander. Then in DA2, where 2-handed warriors got a marginal boost (not as good as rogues, but better than Origins), weapon-and-shield warriors pretty much got nerfed to the ground... and Cullen was a sword-and-boarder. The guy just can't win.

That said, like R2s Muse, I think I prefer him with a shield. There's some symbolism there that I find really compelling. I'd explain it, but I'm not sure I can. It just hits some kind of... primal note of rightness.

Bah. I don't usually have this much trouble expressing a thought.

And watch, DA3 will bring back dual-wielding for warriors, and they'll make him that. It would be *wrong*.

This is going to sound strange, but when I think about why I like Cullen, I kind of get flashbacks to the little girl at the Fourth of July parade that used to stand there in open-mouthed awe while the huge, shiny red firetrucks rolled past with their crew of manly, impossibly heroic firefighters waving to the crowd. Of course, years later, I grew up, joined a rescue squad, and learned that firefighters were actually people with names and bad habits just like everybody else, but the memory remains. I don't know what made me think of that just now.

i totally get that, too. And no matter how many firefighters I know... I still dig them! Yeah, he definitely has that knight in shining armor/knight errant thing going for him.

agree. That along with the distinctive sword of mercy... And the protective symbolism, just seems to suit him.

My grandpa was a fireman and the house chaplan. Watching him in the parades was the absolute best thing ever when I was little. I felt so special when all the kids around me were jumping up and down and waving at the guys and he'd come up and hug me or wave *just to me* - never mind that I had a brother and two little sister standing there. It was always just for me! LOL

PS - I think I like the sword and board for Cullen as well. No particular reason either. It just feels right to me.

If we can equipped our companions with any weapon in DA3, I think I might give Cullen a Mage staff... Just to be a git.
